How to Pray the Rosary
Notes
This is a devotional guide. Scripture citations are shown using the selected Bible translation, which may differ from liturgical editions.
What You Need
A rosary (beads) helps you keep your place, but you can also pray on your fingers. Find a quiet place, choose a set of mysteries (Joyful, Sorrowful, Glorious, or Luminous), and set a simple intention (a person, a need, or thanksgiving).
Basic Flow
1) Sign of the Cross. 2) Apostles' Creed (optional in some traditions). 3) Our Father. 4) Three Hail Marys (often for faith, hope, and love). 5) Glory Be. 6) Announce the 1st mystery. 7) One decade: Our Father, 10 Hail Marys, Glory Be (optionally the Fatima prayer). 8) Repeat decades for mysteries 2 through 5. 9) Closing prayers (Hail Holy Queen is common). 10) Sign of the Cross.
Tips
Move steadily, not hurriedly. If you lose your place, just continue. Meditation is the heart of the rosary: briefly picture the mystery, read a short verse if helpful, and bring your intention into prayer. If praying with others, one person can lead the Our Father and the group answers; for Hail Marys, you can alternate lines or pray together.
