BibleInTongues uses public-domain biblical texts so the site can remain legally simple, reproducible, and easy to deploy without negotiating separate commercial licenses.
Attribution and source links are preserved where required by the source.
Launch translation choices
English uses the World English Bible, Spanish uses Reina-Valera 1909, and Portuguese uses the World Portuguese Bible text currently configured for both Brazil and Portugal.
Those launch choices were made for legal clarity, availability of importable source files, and broad readability.
Locale and translation are different layers
A locale controls interface language, metadata, and original site copy. A translation controls the biblical text being read.
That separation makes it possible to serve different reading audiences without duplicating the same entire site structure.
How future translation additions should work
New translations should only be added when their rights status is clear, their source files are stable, and the import pipeline can preserve attribution correctly.
It is better to support a smaller set of trustworthy texts well than to add many texts with unclear legal or technical status.
