Davi consultou os comandantes de milhares e de centenas, e todos os líderes.

Davi disse a toda a assembleia de Israel: “Se parece bem a vocês, e se isso vem do SENHOR, nosso Deus, enviemos mensagens por toda parte aos nossos irmãos que restaram em toda a terra de Israel, com os quais estão os sacerdotes e levitas em suas cidades que têm pastagens, para que se reúnam a nós.

E tragamos de volta para nós a arca do nosso Deus, pois não a buscamos nos dias de Saul.”

Toda a assembleia disse que faria assim, pois isso pareceu justo aos olhos de todo o povo.

Então Davi reuniu todo o Israel, desde o rio Sior, no Egito, até a entrada de Hamate, para trazer a arca de Deus de Quiriate-Jearim.

Davi subiu com todo o Israel a Baalá, isto é, a Quiriate-Jearim, que pertencia a Judá, para trazer de lá a arca de Deus, o SENHOR, que se assenta acima dos querubins, que é chamada pelo Nome.

Eles transportaram a arca de Deus em uma carroça nova, tirando-a da casa de Abinadabe; e Uzá e Aiô conduziam a carroça.
- 8
Davi e todo o Israel celebravam diante de Deus com todas as suas forças, com cânticos, com harpas, com instrumentos de cordas, com tamborins, com címbalos e com trombetas.

Quando chegaram à eira de Quidom, Uzá estendeu a mão para segurar a arca, porque os bois tropeçaram.
- 10
A ira do SENHOR se acendeu contra Uzá, e ele o feriu porque colocou a mão na arca; e ele morreu ali diante de Deus.
- 11
Davi ficou desgostoso, porque o SENHOR havia irrompido contra Uzá. Ele chamou aquele lugar de Perez-Uzá, até o dia de hoje.

Davi teve medo de Deus naquele dia, dizendo: “Como poderei trazer a arca de Deus para a minha casa?”
- 13
Por isso, Davi não levou a arca consigo para a Cidade de Davi, mas a desviou para a casa de Obede-Edom, o geteu.
- 14
A arca de Deus permaneceu com a família de Obede-Edom em sua casa por três meses; e o SENHOR abençoou a casa de Obede-Edom e tudo o que ele tinha.

David consulted with the captains of thousands and of hundreds, even with every leader.

David said to all the assembly of Israel, “If it seems good to you, and if it is of the LORD our God, let’s send word everywhere to our brothers who are left in all the land of Israel, with whom the priests and Levites are in their cities that have pasture lands, that they may gather themselves to us.

Also, let’s bring the ark of our God back to us again, for we didn’t seek it in the days of Saul.”

All the assembly said that they would do so, for the thing was right in the eyes of all the people.

So David assembled all Israel together, from the Shihor River of Egypt even to the entrance of Hamath, to bring God’s ark from Kiriath Jearim.

David went up with all Israel to Baalah, that is, to Kiriath Jearim, which belonged to Judah, to bring up from there God the LORD’s ark that sits above the cherubim, that is called by the Name.

They carried God’s ark on a new cart, and brought it out of Abinadab’s house; and Uzza and Ahio drove the cart.
- 8
David and all Israel played before God with all their might, even with songs, with harps, with stringed instruments, with tambourines, with cymbals, and with trumpets.

When they came to Chidon’s threshing floor, Uzza put out his hand to hold the ark, for the oxen stumbled.
- 10
The LORD’s anger burned against Uzza, and he struck him because he put his hand on the ark; and he died there before God.
- 11
David was displeased, because the LORD had broken out against Uzza. He called that place Perez Uzza, to this day.
- 12
David was afraid of God that day, saying, “How can I bring God’s ark home to me?”
- 13
So David didn’t move the ark with him into David’s city, but carried it aside into Obed-Edom the Gittite’s house.
- 14
God’s ark remained with the family of Obed-Edom in his house three months; and the LORD blessed Obed-Edom’s house and all that he had.
