Agora David era velho e cheio de dias; e fez de Salomão seu filho rei sobre Israel.

Ele reuniu todos os príncipes de Israel, com os sacerdotes e os levitas.

Os Levitas foram contados a partir dos trinta anos de idade; e seu número pelas pesquisas, homem por homem, era de trinta e oito mil.

David disse: “Destes, vinte e quatro mil eram para supervisionar o trabalho da casa de Iavé, seis mil eram oficiais e juízes,
- 5
quatro mil eram porteiros, e quatro mil elogiaram Iavé com os instrumentos que eu fiz para dar louvor”.

David dividiu-os em divisões de acordo com os filhos de Levi: Gershon, Kohath, e Merari.

Of os Gershonites: Ladan e Shimei.

os filhos de Ladan: Jehiel, o chefe, Zetham, e Joel, três.

os filhos de Shimei: Shelomoth, Haziel, e Haran, três. Estes eram os chefes de família dos pais de Ladan.

Os filhos de Shimei: Jahath, Zina, Jeush, e Beriah. Estes quatro eram os filhos de Shimei.

Jahath era o chefe, e Zizah o segundo; mas Jeush e Beriah não tiveram muitos filhos; portanto, tornaram-se a casa dos pais em um só cálculo.

Os filhos de Kohath: Amram, Izhar, Hebron, e Uzziel, quatro.

Os filhos de Amram: Arão e Moisés; e Arão foi separado para santificar as coisas santíssimas, ele e seus filhos para sempre, para queimar incenso diante de Javé, para ministrar a ele, e para abençoar em seu nome para sempre.

Mas quanto a Moisés, o homem de Deus, seus filhos foram nomeados entre a tribo de Levi.

Os filhos de Moisés: Gershom e Eliezer.

Os filhos de Gershom: Shebuel, o chefe.
- 17
O filho de Eliezer era Reabias o chefe; e Eliezer não tinha outros filhos, mas os filhos de Reabias eram muito numerosos.

O filho de Izhar: Shelomith, o chefe.
- 19
Os filhos de Hebron: Jeriah o chefe, Amariah o segundo, Jaaziel o terceiro, e Jekameam o quarto.

Os filhos de Uzziel: Micah, o chefe, e Isshiah, o segundo.
- 21
Os filhos de Merari: Mahli e Mushi. Os filhos de Mahli: Eleazar e Kish.
- 22
Eleazar morreu e não teve filhos, mas apenas filhas; e seus parentes, os filhos de Kish, os tomaram como esposas.

Os filhos de Mushi: Mahli, Eder, e Jeremoth, três.
- 24
Estes foram os filhos de Levi depois das casas de seus pais, até mesmo os chefes das casas dos pais daqueles que foram contados individualmente, no número de nomes por suas pesquisas, que fizeram o trabalho para o serviço da casa de Yahweh, a partir dos vinte anos de idade.

Pois Davi disse: “Javé, o Deus de Israel, deu descanso a seu povo; e ele habita em Jerusalém para sempre”.

Também os levitas não precisarão mais carregar o tabernáculo e todos os seus vasos para seu serviço”.

Pois pelas últimas palavras de Davi foram contados os filhos de Levi, a partir dos vinte anos de idade.
- 28
Pois seu dever era esperar nos filhos de Aarão pelo serviço da casa de Yahweh - nos tribunais, nas salas e na purificação de todas as coisas sagradas, até mesmo o trabalho do serviço da casa de Deus;

também para o pão de exposição, e para a farinha fina para uma oferta de refeição, seja de bolachas ázimas, seja do que é cozido na panela, ou do que é embebido, e para todas as medidas de quantidade e tamanho;
- 30
e para estar de pé todas as manhãs para agradecer e louvar a Javé, e também à noite;
- 31
e para oferecer todas as ofertas queimadas a Javé nos sábados, nas luas novas, e nas festas fixas, em número de acordo com a ordenança que lhes diz respeito, continuamente diante de Javé;

e para que mantenham o dever da Tenda da Reunião, o dever do lugar santo, e o dever dos filhos de Aarão seus irmãos para o serviço da casa de Javé.

Now David was old and full of days; and he made Solomon his son king over Israel.

He gathered together all the princes of Israel, with the priests and the Levites.
- 3
The Levites were counted from thirty years old and upward; and their number by their polls, man by man, was thirty-eight thousand.

David said, “Of these, twenty-four thousand were to oversee the work of the LORD’s house, six thousand were officers and judges,
- 5
four thousand were doorkeepers, and four thousand praised the LORD with the instruments which I made for giving praise.”

David divided them into divisions according to the sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.
- 7
Of the Gershonites: Ladan and Shimei.
- 8
The sons of Ladan: Jehiel the chief, Zetham, and Joel, three.
- 9
The sons of Shimei: Shelomoth, Haziel, and Haran, three. These were the heads of the fathers’ households of Ladan.
- 10
The sons of Shimei: Jahath, Zina, Jeush, and Beriah. These four were the sons of Shimei.
- 11
Jahath was the chief, and Zizah the second; but Jeush and Beriah didn’t have many sons; therefore they became a fathers’ house in one reckoning.

The sons of Kohath: Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel, four.
- 13
The sons of Amram: Aaron and Moses; and Aaron was separated that he should sanctify the most holy things, he and his sons forever, to burn incense before the LORD, to minister to him, and to bless in his name forever.

But as for Moses the man of God, his sons were named among the tribe of Levi.
- 15
The sons of Moses: Gershom and Eliezer.
- 16
The sons of Gershom: Shebuel the chief.
- 17
The son of Eliezer was Rehabiah the chief; and Eliezer had no other sons, but the sons of Rehabiah were very many.

The son of Izhar: Shelomith the chief.
- 19
The sons of Hebron: Jeriah the chief, Amariah the second, Jahaziel the third, and Jekameam the fourth.
- 20
The sons of Uzziel: Micah the chief, and Isshiah the second.
- 21
The sons of Merari: Mahli and Mushi. The sons of Mahli: Eleazar and Kish.
- 22
Eleazar died, and had no sons, but daughters only; and their relatives, the sons of Kish, took them as wives.
- 23
The sons of Mushi: Mahli, Eder, and Jeremoth, three.
- 24
These were the sons of Levi after their fathers’ houses, even the heads of the fathers’ houses of those who were counted individually, in the number of names by their polls, who did the work for the service of the LORD’s house, from twenty years old and upward.

For David said, “The LORD, the God of Israel, has given rest to his people; and he dwells in Jerusalem forever.
- 26
Also the Levites will no longer need to carry the tabernacle and all its vessels for its service.”
- 27
For by the last words of David the sons of Levi were counted, from twenty years old and upward.
- 28
For their duty was to wait on the sons of Aaron for the service of the LORD’s house—in the courts, in the rooms, and in the purifying of all holy things, even the work of the service of God’s house;
- 29
for the show bread also, and for the fine flour for a meal offering, whether of unleavened wafers, or of that which is baked in the pan, or of that which is soaked, and for all measurements of quantity and size;
- 30
and to stand every morning to thank and praise the LORD, and likewise in the evening;
- 31
and to offer all burnt offerings to the LORD on the Sabbaths, on the new moons, and on the set feasts, in number according to the ordinance concerning them, continually before the LORD;
- 32
and that they should keep the duty of the Tent of Meeting, the duty of the holy place, and the duty of the sons of Aaron their brothers for the service of the LORD’s house.
