Moisés convocou todo o Israel e lhes disse: “Ouça, Israel, os estatutos e as ordenanças que hoje falo aos seus ouvidos, para que os aprendam e tenham o cuidado de cumpri-los.”
- 2
O SENHOR, nosso Deus, fez uma aliança conosco em Horebe.
- 3
O SENHOR não fez esta aliança com os nossos pais, mas conosco, nós mesmos, que estamos todos aqui vivos hoje.

O SENHOR falou com vocês face a face no monte, do meio do fogo
- 5
(naquele tempo, eu fiquei entre o SENHOR e vocês, para lhes anunciar a palavra do SENHOR; pois vocês tiveram medo por causa do fogo, e não subiram o monte), dizendo:
- 6
“Eu sou o SENHOR, o seu Deus, que o tirou da terra do Egito, da casa da escravidão.
- 7
“Você não terá outros deuses diante de mim.
- 8
“Você não fará para si imagem esculpida — nenhuma semelhança do que há em cima no céu, ou do que há embaixo na terra, ou do que há nas águas debaixo da terra.
- 9
Você não se prostrará diante delas, nem as servirá, pois eu, o SENHOR, o seu Deus, sou Deus zeloso, que visito a iniquidade dos pais nos filhos, e na terceira e na quarta geração daqueles que me odeiam,
- 10
e mostro bondade amorosa a milhares daqueles que me amam e guardam os meus mandamentos.

“Você não fará mau uso do nome do SENHOR seu Deus; pois o SENHOR não considerará inocente aquele que fizer mau uso do seu nome.
- 12
“Guarde o dia de sábado, para santificá-lo, como o SENHOR, o seu Deus, lhe ordenou.
- 13
Você trabalhará seis dias, e fará toda a sua obra;
- 14
mas o sétimo dia é um sábado para o SENHOR, o seu Deus, no qual você não fará nenhum trabalho — nem você, nem o seu filho, nem a sua filha, nem o seu servo, nem a sua serva, nem o seu boi, nem o seu jumento, nem qualquer dos seus animais, nem o estrangeiro que está dentro das suas portas; para que o seu servo e a sua serva descansem assim como você.

Você se lembrará de que foi escravo na terra do Egito, e que o SENHOR, o seu Deus, o tirou de lá com mão poderosa e com braço estendido. Por isso, o SENHOR, o seu Deus, lhe ordenou que guarde o dia de sábado.

“Honre o seu pai e a sua mãe, como o SENHOR, o seu Deus, lhe ordenou, para que os seus dias se prolonguem e para que tudo vá bem com você na terra que o SENHOR, o seu Deus, lhe dá.

“Você não matará.
- 18
“Você não cometerá adultério.
- 19
“Você não furtará.
- 20
“Você não dará falso testemunho contra o seu próximo.
- 21
“Você não cobiçará a mulher do seu próximo. Tampouco desejará a casa do seu próximo, nem o seu campo, nem o seu servo, nem a sua serva, nem o seu boi, nem o seu jumento, nem coisa alguma que pertença ao seu próximo.”

O SENHOR falou estas palavras a toda a sua assembleia no monte, do meio do fogo, da nuvem e da densa escuridão, com grande voz. E nada mais acrescentou. Ele as escreveu em duas tábuas de pedra, e as deu a mim.

Quando vocês ouviram a voz do meio da escuridão, enquanto o monte ardia em fogo, vocês se aproximaram de mim, todos os chefes das suas tribos e os seus anciãos;

e vocês disseram: “Eis que o SENHOR, nosso Deus, nos mostrou a sua glória e a sua grandeza, e nós ouvimos a sua voz do meio do fogo. Vimos hoje que Deus de fato fala com o homem, e este continua vivo.

Agora, pois, por que deveríamos morrer? Pois este grande fogo nos consumirá. Se ouvirmos a voz do SENHOR, nosso Deus, mais uma vez, então morreremos.

Pois quem há de toda a carne que tenha ouvido a voz do Deus vivo falando do meio do fogo, como nós ouvimos, e continuou vivo?
- 27
Aproxime-se você, e ouça tudo o que o SENHOR, nosso Deus, disser; e diga-nos tudo o que o SENHOR, nosso Deus, lhe disser; e nós ouviremos e cumpriremos.”

O SENHOR ouviu a voz das palavras de vocês quando falaram comigo; e o SENHOR me disse: “Eu ouvi a voz das palavras deste povo, que eles falaram a você. Eles falaram bem em tudo o que disseram.

Quem dera que houvesse neles tal coração para que me temessem e guardassem todos os meus mandamentos sempre, para que tudo fosse bem com eles e com os seus filhos para sempre!

“Vá e diga-lhes: 'Voltem para as suas tendas.'
- 31
Mas quanto a você, fique aqui comigo, e eu lhe direi todos os mandamentos, e os estatutos, e as ordenanças, que você lhes ensinará, para que os cumpram na terra que eu lhes dou para possuir.”

Portanto, vocês terão o cuidado de fazer como o SENHOR, o seu Deus, lhes ordenou. Vocês não se desviarão nem para a direita nem para a esquerda.
- 33
Vocês andarão em todo o caminho que o SENHOR, o seu Deus, lhes ordenou, para que vivam e para que tudo vá bem com vocês, e para que prolonguem os seus dias na terra que irão possuir.

Moses called to all Israel, and said to them, “Hear, Israel, the statutes and the ordinances which I speak in your ears today, that you may learn them, and observe to do them.”

The LORD our God made a covenant with us in Horeb.
- 3
The LORD didn’t make this covenant with our fathers, but with us, even us, who are all of us here alive today.
- 4
The LORD spoke with you face to face on the mountain out of the middle of the fire,
- 5
(I stood between the LORD and you at that time, to show you the LORD’s word; for you were afraid because of the fire, and didn’t go up onto the mountain) saying,
- 6
“I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
- 7
“You shall have no other gods before me.
- 8
“You shall not make a carved image for yourself—any likeness of what is in heaven above, or what is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.
- 9
You shall not bow yourself down to them, nor serve them, for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children and on the third and on the fourth generation of those who hate me
- 10
and showing loving kindness to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments.
- 11
“You shall not misuse the name of the LORD your God; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless who misuses his name.
- 12
“Observe the Sabbath day, to keep it holy, as the LORD your God commanded you.
- 13
You shall labor six days, and do all your work;
- 14
but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God, in which you shall not do any work—neither you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your ox, nor your donkey, nor any of your livestock, nor your stranger who is within your gates; that your male servant and your female servant may rest as well as you.
- 15
You shall remember that you were a servant in the land of Egypt, and the LORD your God brought you out of there by a mighty hand and by an outstretched arm. Therefore the LORD your God commanded you to keep the Sabbath day.

“Honor your father and your mother, as the LORD your God commanded you, that your days may be long and that it may go well with you in the land which the LORD your God gives you.

“You shall not murder.
- 18
“You shall not commit adultery.
- 19
“You shall not steal.
- 20
“You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.
- 21
“You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife. Neither shall you desire your neighbor’s house, his field, or his male servant, or his female servant, his ox, or his donkey, or anything that is your neighbor’s.”

The LORD spoke these words to all your assembly on the mountain out of the middle of the fire, of the cloud, and of the thick darkness, with a great voice. He added no more. He wrote them on two stone tablets, and gave them to me.

When you heard the voice out of the middle of the darkness, while the mountain was burning with fire, you came near to me, even all the heads of your tribes, and your elders;
- 24
and you said, “Behold, the LORD our God has shown us his glory and his greatness, and we have heard his voice out of the middle of the fire. We have seen today that God does speak with man, and he lives.

Now therefore, why should we die? For this great fire will consume us. If we hear the LORD our God’s voice any more, then we shall die.
- 26
For who is there of all flesh who has heard the voice of the living God speaking out of the middle of the fire, as we have, and lived?
- 27
Go near, and hear all that the LORD our God shall say, and tell us all that the LORD our God tells you; and we will hear it, and do it.”
- 28
The LORD heard the voice of your words when you spoke to me; and the LORD said to me, “I have heard the voice of the words of this people which they have spoken to you. They have well said all that they have spoken.

Oh that there were such a heart in them that they would fear me and keep all my commandments always, that it might be well with them and with their children forever!
- 30
“Go tell them, ‘Return to your tents.’
- 31
But as for you, stand here by me, and I will tell you all the commandments, and the statutes, and the ordinances, which you shall teach them, that they may do them in the land which I give them to possess.”
- 32
You shall observe to do therefore as the LORD your God has commanded you. You shall not turn away to the right hand or to the left.
- 33
You shall walk in all the way which the LORD your God has commanded you, that you may live and that it may be well with you, and that you may prolong your days in the land which you shall possess.
