Gênesis 21
Chega o filho prometido: Sara dá à luz Isaque no ano cem de Abraão, e ela nomeia o próprio riso, Deus me fez rir (v.6). Na festa do desmame a tensão estoura. Sara vê o filho de Agar zombando e exige que ambos sejam expulsos. Deus manda Abraão obedecer a Sara, mas promete também uma nação de Ismael. No deserto a água de Agar acaba, Deus lhe abre os olhos para um poço, e o capítulo fecha com um pacto e um juramento em Berseba.

O SENHOR visitou Sara como tinha dito, e o SENHOR fez a Sara como havia falado.

Sara concebeu e deu a Abraão um filho em sua velhice, no tempo determinado de que Deus lhe havia falado.

Abraão chamou o seu filho que lhe nasceu, que Sara lhe deu à luz, de Isaque.
- 4
Abraão circuncidou seu filho, Isaque, quando ele tinha oito dias de idade, como Deus lhe havia ordenado.

Abraão tinha cem anos de idade quando seu filho, Isaque, lhe nasceu.

Sara disse: “Deus me fez rir. Todos os que ouvirem rirão comigo.”

Ela disse: “Quem diria a Abraão que Sara amamentaria filhos? Pois eu lhe dei um filho em sua velhice.”

O menino cresceu e foi desmamado. Abraão fez um grande banquete no dia em que Isaque foi desmamado.

Sara viu o filho de Hagar, a egípcia, o qual ela tinha dado à luz a Abraão, zombando.

Por isso ela disse a Abraão: “Expulse esta serva e o seu filho! Pois o filho desta serva não será herdeiro com o meu filho, Isaque.”
- 11
Isso pareceu muito mau aos olhos de Abraão por causa de seu filho.
- 12
Deus disse a Abraão: “Não deixe que isso pareça mau aos seus olhos por causa do menino e por causa da sua serva. Em tudo o que Sara disser a você, ouça a voz dela. Pois a sua descendência será nomeada por meio de Isaque.

Eu também farei uma nação do filho da serva, porque ele é seu filho.”

Abraão levantou-se de madrugada, pegou pão e um odre de água, e os deu a Hagar, colocando-os sobre o ombro dela; também lhe deu o menino e a despediu. Ela partiu e andou errante pelo deserto de Berseba.

A água do odre acabou, e ela colocou o menino debaixo de um dos arbustos.
- 16
Ela foi e sentou-se em frente a ele, a uma boa distância, a cerca de um tiro de arco. Pois ela disse: “Não me deixe ver a morte do menino.” Ela sentou-se em frente a ele, levantou a sua voz e chorou.

Deus ouviu a voz do menino. O anjo de Deus chamou Hagar do céu, e lhe disse: “O que a aflige, Hagar? Não tenha medo. Pois Deus ouviu a voz do menino onde ele está.

Levante-se, erga o menino e segure-o com a sua mão. Pois eu farei dele uma grande nação.”
- 19
Deus abriu os olhos dela, e ela viu um poço de água. Ela foi, encheu o odre com água e deu de beber ao menino.
- 20
Deus estava com o menino, e ele cresceu. Ele viveu no deserto e, ao crescer, tornou-se arqueiro.
- 21
Ele viveu no deserto de Parã. Sua mãe conseguiu uma esposa para ele da terra do Egito.
- 22
Naquele tempo, Abimeleque e Ficol, o capitão do seu exército, falaram a Abraão, dizendo: “Deus está com você em tudo o que você faz.
- 23
Agora, portanto, jure-me aqui por Deus que você não agirá falsamente comigo, nem com meu filho, nem com o filho do meu filho. Mas, de acordo com a bondade que eu lhe mostrei, você fará a mim e à terra na qual você tem vivido como estrangeiro.”

Abraão disse: “Eu jurarei.”

Abraão queixou-se a Abimeleque por causa de um poço de água, que os servos de Abimeleque haviam tomado à força.
- 26
Abimeleque disse: “Eu não sei quem fez essa coisa. Você não me contou, e eu não ouvi falar disso até hoje.”
- 27
Abraão pegou ovelhas e bois, e os deu a Abimeleque. Aqueles dois fizeram uma aliança.
- 28
Abraão pôs à parte sete cordeiras do rebanho.

Abimeleque disse a Abraão: “O que significam estas sete cordeiras, que você pôs à parte?”
- 30
Ele disse: “Você receberá estas sete cordeiras da minha mão, para que sirvam de testemunho para mim de que eu cavei este poço.”

Por isso ele chamou aquele lugar de Berseba, porque ambos fizeram um juramento ali.
- 32
Assim eles fizeram uma aliança em Berseba. Abimeleque levantou-se com Ficol, o capitão do seu exército, e eles retornaram para a terra dos filisteus.

Abraão plantou uma tamargueira em Berseba, e ali ele invocou o nome do SENHOR, o Deus Eterno.

Abraão viveu como estrangeiro na terra dos filisteus por muitos dias.

The LORD visited Sarah as he had said, and the LORD did to Sarah as he had spoken.
- 2
Sarah conceived, and bore Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him.

Abraham called his son who was born to him, whom Sarah bore to him, Isaac.
- 4
Abraham circumcised his son, Isaac, when he was eight days old, as God had commanded him.
- 5
Abraham was one hundred years old when his son, Isaac, was born to him.
- 6
Sarah said, “God has made me laugh. Everyone who hears will laugh with me.”
- 7
She said, “Who would have said to Abraham that Sarah would nurse children? For I have borne him a son in his old age.”
- 8
The child grew and was weaned. Abraham made a great feast on the day that Isaac was weaned.
- 9
Sarah saw the son of Hagar the Egyptian, whom she had borne to Abraham, mocking.
- 10
Therefore she said to Abraham, “Cast out this servant and her son! For the son of this servant will not be heir with my son, Isaac.”
- 11
The thing was very grievous in Abraham’s sight on account of his son.
- 12
God said to Abraham, “Don’t let it be grievous in your sight because of the boy, and because of your servant. In all that Sarah says to you, listen to her voice. For your offspring will be named through Isaac.
- 13
I will also make a nation of the son of the servant, because he is your child.”
- 14
Abraham rose up early in the morning, and took bread and a container of water, and gave it to Hagar, putting it on her shoulder; and gave her the child, and sent her away. She departed, and wandered in the wilderness of Beersheba.

The water in the container was spent, and she put the child under one of the shrubs.
- 16
She went and sat down opposite him, a good way off, about a bow shot away. For she said, “Don’t let me see the death of the child.” She sat opposite him, and lifted up her voice, and wept.
- 17
God heard the voice of the boy. The angel of God called to Hagar out of the sky, and said to her, “What troubles you, Hagar? Don’t be afraid. For God has heard the voice of the boy where he is.
- 18
Get up, lift up the boy, and hold him with your hand. For I will make him a great nation.”
- 19
God opened her eyes, and she saw a well of water. She went, filled the container with water, and gave the boy a drink.
- 20
God was with the boy, and he grew. He lived in the wilderness, and as he grew up, he became an archer.
- 21
He lived in the wilderness of Paran. His mother got a wife for him out of the land of Egypt.
- 22
At that time, Abimelech and Phicol the captain of his army spoke to Abraham, saying, “God is with you in all that you do.
- 23
Now, therefore, swear to me here by God that you will not deal falsely with me, nor with my son, nor with my son’s son. But according to the kindness that I have done to you, you shall do to me, and to the land in which you have lived as a foreigner.”

Abraham said, “I will swear.”
- 25
Abraham complained to Abimelech because of a water well, which Abimelech’s servants had violently taken away.

Abimelech said, “I don’t know who has done this thing. You didn’t tell me, and I didn’t hear of it until today.”
- 27
Abraham took sheep and cattle, and gave them to Abimelech. Those two made a covenant.

Abraham set seven ewe lambs of the flock by themselves.
- 29
Abimelech said to Abraham, “What do these seven ewe lambs, which you have set by themselves, mean?”
- 30
He said, “You shall take these seven ewe lambs from my hand, that it may be a witness to me, that I have dug this well.”
- 31
Therefore he called that place Beersheba, because they both swore an oath there.
- 32
So they made a covenant at Beersheba. Abimelech rose up with Phicol, the captain of his army, and they returned into the land of the Philistines.

Abraham planted a tamarisk tree in Beersheba, and there he called on the name of the LORD, the Everlasting God.

Abraham lived as a foreigner in the land of the Philistines many days.
Dois filhos, dois futuros
O capítulo divide a casa de Abraão. A linha da aliança passa por Isaque, em Isaque será chamada a tua descendência (v.12), enquanto a Ismael se dá um destino próprio de grande nação (v.18), crescendo como arqueiro em Parã.
O poço domina o fim: o poço de Deus que salva Ismael, e depois o poço disputado que nomeia Berseba, onde sete cordeiras selam o pacto com Abimeleque.
