Gênesis 29
Ao chegar ao oriente, Jacó encontra pastores junto a um poço e remove a sua grande pedra por Raquel, filha de Labão; depois chora e a beija. Labão recebe o sobrinho, e Jacó concorda em servir sete anos por Raquel, anos que lhe pareceram poucos dias pelo amor que lhe tinha. O enganador é agora enganado: repare como a noite de núpcias se volta contra ele.

Então Jacó seguiu sua jornada, e chegou à terra dos filhos do oriente.

Ele olhou, e viu um poço no campo, e viu três rebanhos de ovelhas deitados ali perto dele. Pois daquele poço eles davam de beber aos rebanhos. A pedra sobre a boca do poço era grande.

Ali todos os rebanhos se reuniam. Eles rolavam a pedra da boca do poço, davam de beber às ovelhas, e colocavam a pedra de volta no seu lugar sobre a boca do poço.

Jacó lhes disse: “Meus irmãos, de onde vocês são?” Eles disseram: “Nós somos de Harã.”

Ele lhes disse: “Vocês conhecem Labão, filho de Naor?” Eles disseram: “Nós o conhecemos.”

Ele lhes disse: “Vai tudo bem com ele?” Eles disseram: “Vai tudo bem. Veja, Raquel, sua filha, está chegando com as ovelhas.”

Ele disse: “Vejam, ainda é pleno dia, não é hora de recolher o rebanho. Dêem de beber às ovelhas, e vão apascentá-las.”

Eles disseram: “Não podemos, até que todos os rebanhos estejam reunidos, e rolem a pedra da boca do poço. Então daremos de beber às ovelhas.”

Enquanto ele ainda falava com eles, Raquel chegou com as ovelhas de seu pai, pois era ela quem as apascentava.

Quando Jacó viu Raquel, filha de Labão, irmão de sua mãe, e as ovelhas de Labão, irmão de sua mãe, Jacó se aproximou, rolou a pedra da boca do poço e deu de beber ao rebanho de Labão, irmão de sua mãe.

Jacó beijou Raquel, levantou a sua voz e chorou.

Jacó contou a Raquel que era parente de seu pai, e que era filho de Rebeca. Ela correu e contou a seu pai.

Quando Labão ouviu as notícias de Jacó, filho de sua irmã, ele correu ao encontro de Jacó, o abraçou, o beijou e o levou para sua casa. Jacó contou a Labão todas essas coisas.

Labão lhe disse: “Certamente você é meu osso e minha carne.” E Jacó ficou com ele durante um mês.

Labão disse a Jacó: “Só porque você é meu parente, deveria me servir de graça? Diga-me, qual será o seu salário?”

Labão tinha duas filhas. O nome da mais velha era Lia, e o nome da mais nova era Raquel.

Os olhos de Lia eram fracos, mas Raquel era bela de porte e atraente.

Jacó amava Raquel. Ele disse: “Eu o servirei por sete anos por Raquel, sua filha mais nova.”

Labão disse: “É melhor que eu a dê a você, do que dá-la a outro homem. Fique comigo.”

Jacó serviu sete anos por Raquel. E eles lhe pareceram apenas alguns dias, pelo amor que tinha por ela.

Jacó disse a Labão: “Dê-me a minha mulher, pois os meus dias estão cumpridos, para que eu me deite com ela.”

Labão reuniu todos os homens do lugar, e fez um banquete.

À noite, ele tomou Lia, sua filha, e a trouxe a Jacó. E ele se deitou com ela.

Labão deu Zilpa, sua serva, à sua filha Lia, para ser sua serva.

Pela manhã, eis que era Lia! Ele disse a Labão: “O que é isso que você fez comigo? Eu não o servi por Raquel? Por que então você me enganou?”

Labão disse: “Não se faz assim em nosso lugar, dar a mais nova antes da primogênita.
- 27
Cumpra a semana desta, e nós lhe daremos a outra também, pelo serviço que você me prestará por mais sete anos.”

Jacó fez assim, e cumpriu a semana dela. Então Labão lhe deu Raquel, sua filha, por mulher.

Labão deu Bila, sua serva, à sua filha Raquel, para ser sua serva.

Ele se deitou também com Raquel, e amou mais a Raquel do que a Lia, e o serviu por mais sete anos.

O SENHOR viu que Lia era desprezada, e abriu o seu ventre, mas Raquel era estéril.
- 32
Lia concebeu, e deu à luz um filho, e o chamou de Rúben. Pois ela disse: “Porque o SENHOR olhou para a minha aflição; por isso agora meu marido me amará.”

Ela concebeu novamente, e deu à luz um filho, e disse: “Porque o SENHOR ouviu que eu sou desprezada, ele me deu também este filho.” E ela o chamou de Simeão.

Ela concebeu novamente, e deu à luz um filho. Ela disse: “Agora, desta vez, meu marido se unirá a mim, porque lhe dei à luz três filhos.” Por isso ele foi chamado de Levi.

Ela concebeu novamente, e deu à luz um filho. Ela disse: “Desta vez eu louvarei ao SENHOR.” Por isso ela o chamou de Judá. Então ela parou de ter filhos.

Then Jacob went on his journey, and came to the land of the children of the east.
- 2
He looked, and saw a well in the field, and saw three flocks of sheep lying there by it. For out of that well they watered the flocks. The stone on the well’s mouth was large.

There all the flocks were gathered. They rolled the stone from the well’s mouth, and watered the sheep, and put the stone back on the well’s mouth in its place.

Jacob said to them, “My relatives, where are you from?” They said, “We are from Haran.”
- 5
He said to them, “Do you know Laban, the son of Nahor?” They said, “We know him.”
- 6
He said to them, “Is it well with him?” They said, “It is well. See, Rachel, his daughter, is coming with the sheep.”
- 7
He said, “Behold, it is still the middle of the day, not time to gather the livestock together. Water the sheep, and go and feed them.”
- 8
They said, “We can’t, until all the flocks are gathered together, and they roll the stone from the well’s mouth. Then we will water the sheep.”
- 9
While he was yet speaking with them, Rachel came with her father’s sheep, for she kept them.
- 10
When Jacob saw Rachel the daughter of Laban, his mother’s brother, and the sheep of Laban, his mother’s brother, Jacob went near, and rolled the stone from the well’s mouth, and watered the flock of Laban his mother’s brother.

Jacob kissed Rachel, and lifted up his voice, and wept.
- 12
Jacob told Rachel that he was her father’s relative, and that he was Rebekah’s son. She ran and told her father.

When Laban heard the news of Jacob, his sister’s son, he ran to meet Jacob, and embraced him, and kissed him, and brought him to his house. Jacob told Laban all these things.

Laban said to him, “Surely you are my bone and my flesh.” Jacob stayed with him for a month.
- 15
Laban said to Jacob, “Because you are my relative, should you therefore serve me for nothing? Tell me, what will your wages be?”
- 16
Laban had two daughters. The name of the elder was Leah, and the name of the younger was Rachel.
- 17
Leah’s eyes were weak, but Rachel was beautiful in form and attractive.
- 18
Jacob loved Rachel. He said, “I will serve you seven years for Rachel, your younger daughter.”
- 19
Laban said, “It is better that I give her to you, than that I should give her to another man. Stay with me.”
- 20
Jacob served seven years for Rachel. They seemed to him but a few days, for the love he had for her.
- 21
Jacob said to Laban, “Give me my wife, for my days are fulfilled, that I may go in to her.”
- 22
Laban gathered together all the men of the place, and made a feast.
- 23
In the evening, he took Leah his daughter, and brought her to Jacob. He went in to her.
- 24
Laban gave Zilpah his servant to his daughter Leah for a servant.
- 25
In the morning, behold, it was Leah! He said to Laban, “What is this you have done to me? Didn’t I serve with you for Rachel? Why then have you deceived me?”

Laban said, “It is not done so in our place, to give the younger before the firstborn.
- 27
Fulfill the week of this one, and we will give you the other also for the service which you will serve with me for seven more years.”
- 28
Jacob did so, and fulfilled her week. He gave him Rachel his daughter as wife.
- 29
Laban gave Bilhah, his servant, to his daughter Rachel to be her servant.
- 30
He went in also to Rachel, and he loved also Rachel more than Leah, and served with him seven more years.
- 31
The LORD saw that Leah was hated, and he opened her womb, but Rachel was barren.
- 32
Leah conceived, and bore a son, and she named him Reuben. For she said, “Because the LORD has looked at my affliction; for now my husband will love me.”
- 33
She conceived again, and bore a son, and said, “Because the LORD has heard that I am hated, he has therefore given me this son also.” She named him Simeon.
- 34
She conceived again, and bore a son. She said, “Now this time my husband will be joined to me, because I have borne him three sons.” Therefore his name was called Levi.
- 35
She conceived again, and bore a son. She said, “This time I will praise the LORD.” Therefore she named him Judah. Then she stopped bearing.
Lia, Raquel e os primeiros filhos
Labão troca Lia, de olhos delicados, por Raquel sob o amparo da festa e da escuridão, e justifica-se pelo costume de casar primeiro a mais velha. Jacó precisa servir outros sete anos. O SENHOR, vendo Lia desprezada, abre-lhe a madre: nascem Rúben, Simeão, Levi e Judá, cada nome carregado de seu anseio por ser amada, terminando em louvor.
