Gênesis 35
Deus manda Jacó voltar a Betel. Ele faz a casa enterrar os deuses estranhos e os brincos sob o carvalho, e um terror de Deus impede que as cidades vizinhas persigam. Em Betel ergue um altar, e Deus renova o nome Israel e a promessa de nações e reis.

Deus disse a Jacó: “Levante-se, suba a Betel e viva lá. Faça ali um altar ao Deus que apareceu a você quando você fugia da face de seu irmão Esaú.”

Então Jacó disse à sua família e a todos os que estavam com ele: “Livrem-se dos deuses estrangeiros que estão no meio de vocês, purifiquem-se e troquem de roupa.

Levantemo-nos e subamos a Betel. Farei ali um altar ao Deus que me respondeu no dia da minha angústia, e que esteve comigo no caminho por onde andei.”

Eles entregaram a Jacó todos os deuses estrangeiros que estavam em suas mãos, e os brincos que estavam em suas orelhas; e Jacó os escondeu debaixo do carvalho que ficava junto a Siquém.

Eles viajaram, e um terror de Deus caiu sobre as cidades que estavam ao redor deles, e não perseguiram os filhos de Jacó.

Assim Jacó chegou a Luz (isto é, Betel), que fica na terra de Canaã, ele e todo o povo que estava com ele.
- 7
Ele construiu ali um altar, e chamou o lugar de El-Betel; porque ali Deus se revelou a ele, quando fugia da face de seu irmão.
- 8
Débora, a ama de Rebeca, morreu, e foi sepultada abaixo de Betel, debaixo do carvalho; e o seu nome foi chamado Alom-Bacute.

Deus apareceu a Jacó outra vez, quando ele voltou de Padã-Arã, e o abençoou.
- 10
Deus lhe disse: “Seu nome é Jacó. Seu nome não será mais Jacó, mas o seu nome será Israel.” E ele o chamou de Israel.

Deus lhe disse: “Eu sou o Deus Todo-Poderoso. Seja frutífero e multiplique-se. Uma nação e uma comunidade de nações virão de você, e reis sairão do seu corpo.
- 12
A terra que dei a Abraão e a Isaque, eu a darei a você, e à sua descendência depois de você eu darei a terra.”

Deus subiu de diante dele, no lugar onde falou com ele.

Jacó ergueu uma coluna no lugar onde Deus falou com ele, uma coluna de pedra. Ele derramou sobre ela uma libação, e derramou óleo sobre ela.

Jacó chamou o nome do lugar onde Deus falou com ele de “Betel”.

Eles viajaram de Betel. Ainda faltava alguma distância para chegar a Efrata, e Raquel entrou em trabalho de parto. Ela teve um parto difícil.

Quando ela estava em trabalho de parto difícil, a parteira lhe disse: “Não tenha medo, pois agora você terá outro filho.”

Enquanto sua alma partia (pois ela morreu), ela o chamou de Benoni, mas seu pai o chamou de Benjamim.

Raquel morreu, e foi sepultada no caminho para Efrata (também chamada Belém).

Jacó ergueu uma coluna sobre o seu túmulo. Esta é a Coluna do túmulo de Raquel até o dia de hoje.

Israel viajou, e armou sua tenda além da torre de Éder.

Enquanto Israel vivia naquela terra, Rúben foi e se deitou com Bila, concubina de seu pai, e Israel ficou sabendo disso. Ora, os filhos de Jacó eram doze.

Os filhos de Lia: Rúben (o primogênito de Jacó), Simeão, Levi, Judá, Issacar e Zebulom.
- 24
Os filhos de Raquel: José e Benjamim.
- 25
Os filhos de Bila (serva de Raquel): Dã e Naftali.
- 26
Os filhos de Zilpa (serva de Lia): Gade e Aser. Estes são os filhos de Jacó, que lhe nasceram em Padã-Arã.

Jacó chegou a Isaque, seu pai, em Manre, em Quiriate-Arba (que é Hebrom), onde Abraão e Isaque viveram como estrangeiros.

Os dias de Isaque foram cento e oitenta anos.
- 29
Isaque entregou o espírito e morreu, e foi reunido ao seu povo, velho e cheio de dias. Esaú e Jacó, seus filhos, o sepultaram.

God said to Jacob, “Arise, go up to Bethel, and live there. Make there an altar to God, who appeared to you when you fled from the face of Esau your brother.”

Then Jacob said to his household, and to all who were with him, “Put away the foreign gods that are among you, purify yourselves, and change your garments.
- 3
Let’s arise, and go up to Bethel. I will make there an altar to God, who answered me in the day of my distress, and was with me on the way which I went.”
- 4
They gave to Jacob all the foreign gods which were in their hands, and the rings which were in their ears; and Jacob hid them under the oak which was by Shechem.
- 5
They traveled, and a terror of God was on the cities that were around them, and they didn’t pursue the sons of Jacob.
- 6
So Jacob came to Luz (that is, Bethel), which is in the land of Canaan, he and all the people who were with him.
- 7
He built an altar there, and called the place El Beth El; because there God was revealed to him, when he fled from the face of his brother.
- 8
Deborah, Rebekah’s nurse, died, and she was buried below Bethel under the oak; and its name was called Allon Bacuth.
- 9
God appeared to Jacob again, when he came from Paddan Aram, and blessed him.
- 10
God said to him, “Your name is Jacob. Your name shall not be Jacob any more, but your name will be Israel.” He named him Israel.
- 11
God said to him, “I am God Almighty. Be fruitful and multiply. A nation and a company of nations will be from you, and kings will come out of your body.
- 12
The land which I gave to Abraham and Isaac, I will give it to you, and to your offspring after you I will give the land.”
- 13
God went up from him in the place where he spoke with him.
- 14
Jacob set up a pillar in the place where he spoke with him, a pillar of stone. He poured out a drink offering on it, and poured oil on it.
- 15
Jacob called the name of the place where God spoke with him “Bethel”.
- 16
They traveled from Bethel. There was still some distance to come to Ephrath, and Rachel travailed. She had hard labor.
- 17
When she was in hard labor, the midwife said to her, “Don’t be afraid, for now you will have another son.”
- 18
As her soul was departing (for she died), she named him Benoni, but his father named him Benjamin.
- 19
Rachel died, and was buried on the way to Ephrath (also called Bethlehem).
- 20
Jacob set up a pillar on her grave. The same is the Pillar of Rachel’s grave to this day.

Israel traveled, and spread his tent beyond the tower of Eder.
- 22
While Israel lived in that land, Reuben went and lay with Bilhah, his father’s concubine, and Israel heard of it. Now the sons of Jacob were twelve.

The sons of Leah: Reuben (Jacob’s firstborn), Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, and Zebulun.
- 24
The sons of Rachel: Joseph and Benjamin.
- 25
The sons of Bilhah (Rachel’s servant): Dan and Naphtali.
- 26
The sons of Zilpah (Leah’s servant): Gad and Asher. These are the sons of Jacob, who were born to him in Paddan Aram.
- 27
Jacob came to Isaac his father, to Mamre, to Kiriath Arba (which is Hebron), where Abraham and Isaac lived as foreigners.
- 28
The days of Isaac were one hundred eighty years.
- 29
Isaac gave up the spirit and died, and was gathered to his people, old and full of days. Esau and Jacob, his sons, buried him.
Três sepulturas e uma lista
O fim do capítulo se enche de perdas.
