Gênesis 9
Um recomeço com novos termos. Deus abençoa a família de Noé com o velho mandato de multiplicar, mas as regras mudam: agora podem comer animais, porém não com o sangue, e o sangue humano será pedido em conta porque o homem traz a imagem de Deus (vv.4-6). Vem então o pacto do arco-íris, jurado a todo ser vivo. O capítulo encerra em tom sombrio: a embriaguez de Noé, a ofensa de Cam e a maldição sobre Canaã.

Deus abençoou Noé e seus filhos, e lhes disse: “Sejam frutíferos, multipliquem-se e encham a terra.
- 2
O temor e o pavor de vocês estarão sobre todos os animais da terra e sobre todas as aves do céu. Tudo o que se move sobre o chão, e todos os peixes do mar, são entregues em suas mãos.
- 3
Tudo o que se move e tem vida será alimento para vocês. Assim como lhes dei as plantas verdes, eu lhes dei todas as coisas.

Mas a carne com a sua vida, ou seja, o seu sangue, vocês não comerão.
- 5
Certamente pedirei contas do sangue da vida de vocês. Das mãos de todos os animais eu o requererei. Das mãos do homem, sim, das mãos do irmão de cada homem, eu requererei a vida do homem.

Quem derramar o sangue do homem, pelo homem o seu sangue será derramado, pois Deus fez o homem à sua própria imagem.
- 7
Quanto a vocês, sejam frutíferos e multipliquem-se. Cresçam abundantemente na terra e multipliquem-se nela.”

Deus falou a Noé e aos seus filhos que estavam com ele, dizendo:

“Quanto a mim, eis que estabeleço a minha aliança com vocês e com a sua descendência depois de vocês,
- 10
e com toda criatura vivente que está com vocês: as aves, os rebanhos e todos os animais da terra que estão com vocês, todos os que saíram da arca, sim, todos os animais da terra.
- 11
Estabelecerei a minha aliança com vocês: Nunca mais toda a carne será exterminada pelas águas do dilúvio. Nunca mais haverá um dilúvio para destruir a terra.”

Deus disse: “Este é o sinal da aliança que faço entre mim e vocês, e toda criatura vivente que está com vocês, para todas as gerações perpétuas:

Coloco o meu arco-íris na nuvem, e ele será um sinal de uma aliança entre mim e a terra.
- 14
Quando eu trouxer uma nuvem sobre a terra, e o arco-íris for visto na nuvem,
- 15
eu me lembrarei da minha aliança, que há entre mim e vocês e toda criatura vivente de todas as espécies, e as águas nunca mais se tornarão um dilúvio para destruir toda a carne.

O arco-íris estará na nuvem. Eu olharei para ele, para me lembrar da aliança eterna entre Deus e toda criatura vivente de toda a carne que está sobre a terra.”

Deus disse a Noé: “Este é o sinal da aliança que estabeleci entre mim e toda a carne que está sobre a terra.”
- 18
Os filhos de Noé que saíram da arca foram Sem, Cam e Jafé. Cam é o pai de Canaã.
- 19
Estes três foram os filhos de Noé, e a partir deles toda a terra foi povoada.

Noé começou a ser agricultor e plantou uma vinha.
- 21
Ele bebeu do vinho, embriagou-se e ficou descoberto dentro de sua tenda.
- 22
Cam, o pai de Canaã, viu a nudez de seu pai e contou aos seus dois irmãos que estavam do lado de fora.
- 23
Sem e Jafé pegaram uma capa, colocaram-na sobre os ombros de ambos, entraram de costas e cobriram a nudez de seu pai. Seus rostos estavam virados para trás, e eles não viram a nudez de seu pai.

Quando Noé acordou do seu vinho, soube o que o seu filho caçula lhe havia feito.
- 25
Ele disse: “Maldito seja Canaã. Ele será o servo dos servos para os seus irmãos.”
- 26
Ele disse: “Bendito seja o SENHOR, o Deus de Sem. Que Canaã seja seu servo.
- 27
Que Deus amplie a Jafé. Que ele habite nas tendas de Sem. Que Canaã seja seu servo.”
- 28
Noé viveu trezentos e cinquenta anos depois do dilúvio.
- 29
Todos os dias de Noé foram novecentos e cinquenta anos, e então ele morreu.

God blessed Noah and his sons, and said to them, “Be fruitful, multiply, and replenish the earth.
- 2
The fear of you and the dread of you will be on every animal of the earth, and on every bird of the sky. Everything that moves along the ground, and all the fish of the sea, are delivered into your hand.
- 3
Every moving thing that lives will be food for you. As I gave you the green herb, I have given everything to you.
- 4
But flesh with its life, that is, its blood, you shall not eat.
- 5
I will surely require accounting for your life’s blood. At the hand of every animal I will require it. At the hand of man, even at the hand of every man’s brother, I will require the life of man.

Whoever sheds man’s blood, his blood will be shed by man, for God made man in his own image.

Be fruitful and multiply. Increase abundantly in the earth, and multiply in it.”

God spoke to Noah and to his sons with him, saying,
- 9
“As for me, behold, I establish my covenant with you, and with your offspring after you,
- 10
and with every living creature that is with you: the birds, the livestock, and every animal of the earth with you, of all that go out of the ship, even every animal of the earth.
- 11
I will establish my covenant with you: All flesh will not be cut off any more by the waters of the flood. There will never again be a flood to destroy the earth.”

God said, “This is the token of the covenant which I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations:
- 13
I set my rainbow in the cloud, and it will be a sign of a covenant between me and the earth.
- 14
When I bring a cloud over the earth, that the rainbow will be seen in the cloud,
- 15
I will remember my covenant, which is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh, and the waters will no more become a flood to destroy all flesh.
- 16
The rainbow will be in the cloud. I will look at it, that I may remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth.”

God said to Noah, “This is the token of the covenant which I have established between me and all flesh that is on the earth.”
- 18
The sons of Noah who went out from the ship were Shem, Ham, and Japheth. Ham is the father of Canaan.
- 19
These three were the sons of Noah, and from these the whole earth was populated.
- 20
Noah began to be a farmer, and planted a vineyard.
- 21
He drank of the wine and got drunk. He was uncovered within his tent.
- 22
Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father, and told his two brothers outside.
- 23
Shem and Japheth took a garment, and laid it on both their shoulders, went in backwards, and covered the nakedness of their father. Their faces were backwards, and they didn’t see their father’s nakedness.
- 24
Noah awoke from his wine, and knew what his youngest son had done to him.
- 25
He said, “Canaan is cursed. He will be a servant of servants to his brothers.”
- 26
He said, “Blessed be the LORD, the God of Shem. Let Canaan be his servant.
- 27
May God enlarge Japheth. Let him dwell in the tents of Shem. Let Canaan be his servant.”
- 28
Noah lived three hundred fifty years after the flood.
- 29
All the days of Noah were nine hundred fifty years, and then he died.
Do arco à maldição de Canaã
O arco-íris posto 'na nuvem' (v.13) é sinal que Deus prende à sua própria lembrança, não ao comportamento humano: o pacto vale sem condição.
Mas o mesmo capítulo que promete contenção termina com Noé amaldiçoando Canaã (v.25), plantando um conflito: essa é justamente a linha que Israel virá a expulsar da terra.
