“Desça e sente-se no pó, virgem filha da Babilônia. Sente-se no chão sem um trono, filha dos caldeus. Pois você não será mais chamada de terna e delicada.

Pegue as mós e moa farinha. Tire o seu véu, levante a sua saia, descubra as suas pernas, e atravesse os rios.

A sua nudez será descoberta. Sim, a sua vergonha será vista. Eu me vingarei, e não pouparei ninguém.”

Nosso Redentor, o SENHOR dos Exércitos é o seu nome, é o Santo de Israel.

“Sente-se em silêncio e entre nas trevas, filha dos caldeus. Pois você não será mais chamada de senhora de reinos.
- 6
Eu me irei contra o meu povo. Eu profanei a minha herança e os entreguei nas suas mãos. Você não lhes mostrou misericórdia. Você colocou um jugo muito pesado sobre os idosos.

Você disse: ‘Serei uma princesa para sempre’, de modo que você não levou estas coisas ao coração, nem se lembrou das consequências.

“Agora, portanto, ouça isto, você que é dada aos prazeres, que se assenta segura, que diz no seu coração: ‘Eu sou, e não há ninguém além de mim. Não me assentarei como viúva, nem conhecerei a perda de filhos.’

Mas estas duas coisas virão sobre você em um momento, em um único dia: a perda de filhos e a viuvez. Elas virão sobre você em sua medida completa, na multidão das suas feitiçarias, e na grande abundância dos seus encantamentos.

Pois você confiou na sua maldade. Você disse: ‘Ninguém me vê.’ A sua sabedoria e o seu conhecimento a perverteram. Você disse no seu coração: ‘Eu sou, e não há ninguém além de mim.’

Portanto, o desastre virá sobre você. Você não saberá quando ele surgirá. A desgraça cairá sobre você. Você não será capaz de afastá-la. A desolação virá sobre você repentinamente, sem que você a compreenda.

“Permaneça agora com os seus encantamentos e com a multidão das suas feitiçarias, nas quais você tem trabalhado desde a sua juventude, como se pudesse tirar proveito, como se pudesse prevalecer.

Você está cansada com a multidão dos seus conselhos. Agora, que os astrólogos, os observadores de estrelas e os prognosticadores mensais se levantem e a salvem das coisas que acontecerão a você.

Eis que eles são como restolho. O fogo os queimará. Eles não se livrarão do poder da chama. Não será uma brasa para se aquecer, nem um fogo para se sentar ao lado.

As coisas nas quais você trabalhou serão assim: aqueles que negociaram com você desde a sua juventude vagarão, cada um pelo seu próprio caminho. Não haverá ninguém para salvá-la.

“Come down and sit in the dust, virgin daughter of Babylon. Sit on the ground without a throne, daughter of the Chaldeans. For you will no longer be called tender and delicate.

Take the millstones and grind flour. Remove your veil, lift up your skirt, uncover your legs, and wade through the rivers.

Your nakedness will be uncovered. Yes, your shame will be seen. I will take vengeance, and will spare no one.”

Our Redeemer, the LORD of Armies is his name, is the Holy One of Israel.

“Sit in silence, and go into darkness, daughter of the Chaldeans. For you shall no longer be called the mistress of kingdoms.

I was angry with my people. I profaned my inheritance and gave them into your hand. You showed them no mercy. You laid a very heavy yoke on the aged.

You said, ‘I will be a princess forever,’ so that you didn’t lay these things to your heart, nor did you remember the results.

“Now therefore hear this, you who are given to pleasures, who sit securely, who say in your heart, ‘I am, and there is no one else besides me. I won’t sit as a widow, neither will I know the loss of children.’

But these two things will come to you in a moment in one day: the loss of children and widowhood. They will come on you in their full measure, in the multitude of your sorceries, and the great abundance of your enchantments.

For you have trusted in your wickedness. You have said, ‘No one sees me.’ Your wisdom and your knowledge has perverted you. You have said in your heart, ‘I am, and there is no one else besides me.’

Therefore disaster will come on you. You won’t know when it dawns. Mischief will fall on you. You won’t be able to put it away. Desolation will come on you suddenly, which you don’t understand.

“Stand now with your enchantments and with the multitude of your sorceries, in which you have labored from your youth, as if you might profit, as if you might prevail.
- 13
You are wearied in the multitude of your counsels. Now let the astrologers, the stargazers, and the monthly prognosticators stand up and save you from the things that will happen to you.
- 14
Behold, they are like stubble. The fire will burn them. They won’t deliver themselves from the power of the flame. It won’t be a coal to warm at or a fire to sit by.
- 15
The things that you labored in will be like this: those who have trafficked with you from your youth will each wander in his own way. There will be no one to save you.
