No princípio do reinado de Jeoaquim, filho de Josias, rei de Judá, veio esta palavra a Jeremias da parte do SENHOR, dizendo:

assim me diz o SENHOR: “Faça amarras e cangas, e coloque-as no seu pescoço.
- 3
Depois envie-as ao rei de Edom, ao rei de Moabe, ao rei dos filhos de Amom, ao rei de Tiro e ao rei de Sidom, pelas mãos dos mensageiros que vêm a Jerusalém a Zedequias, rei de Judá.

Dê-lhes uma ordem para os seus senhores, dizendo: ‘Assim diz o SENHOR dos Exércitos, o Deus de Israel: “Vocês dirão aos seus senhores:

‘Eu fiz a terra, os homens e os animais que estão sobre a face da terra, pelo meu grande poder e pelo meu braço estendido. Eu a dou a quem me parece bem.
- 6
Agora eu entreguei todas estas terras nas mãos de Nabucodonosor, rei da Babilônia, meu servo. Também lhe dei os animais do campo para o servirem.
- 7
Todas as nações servirão a ele, a seu filho e ao filho de seu filho, até que chegue o tempo da sua própria terra. Então muitas nações e grandes reis farão dele o seu servo.
- 8
“‘“‘Acontecerá que eu punirei a nação e o reino que não servirem ao mesmo Nabucodonosor, rei da Babilônia, e que não colocarem o seu pescoço sob o jugo do rei da Babilônia’, diz o SENHOR, ‘com a espada, com a fome e com a peste, até que eu os tenha consumido pela mão dele.

Mas, quanto a vocês, não deem ouvidos aos seus profetas, aos seus adivinhos, aos seus sonhos, aos seus agoureiros ou aos seus feiticeiros, que lhes falam, dizendo: “Vocês não servirão ao rei da Babilônia”;
- 10
pois eles lhes profetizam mentira, para removê-los para longe da sua terra, para que eu os expulse, e vocês pereçam.
- 11
Mas a nação que colocar o seu pescoço sob o jugo do rei da Babilônia e o servir, essa nação eu deixarei permanecer na sua própria terra’, diz o SENHOR; ‘e eles a cultivarão e habitarão nela.’”’”

Falei a Zedequias, rei de Judá, de acordo com todas estas palavras, dizendo: “Coloquem os seus pescoços sob o jugo do rei da Babilônia, e sirvam a ele e ao seu povo, e vivam.
- 13
Por que vocês morreriam, você e o seu povo, pela espada, pela fome e pela peste, como o SENHOR falou a respeito da nação que não servir ao rei da Babilônia?
- 14
Não deem ouvidos às palavras dos profetas que lhes falam, dizendo: ‘Vocês não servirão ao rei da Babilônia’; pois eles lhes profetizam mentira.
- 15
Pois eu não os enviei”, diz o SENHOR, “mas eles profetizam falsamente em meu nome; para que eu os expulse, e para que vocês pereçam, vocês e os profetas que lhes profetizam.”
- 16
Também falei aos sacerdotes e a todo este povo, dizendo: Assim diz o SENHOR: “Não deem ouvidos às palavras dos seus profetas que lhes profetizam, dizendo: ‘Eis que os utensílios da casa do SENHOR serão agora, em breve, trazidos de volta da Babilônia’; pois eles lhes profetizam mentira.

Não deem ouvidos a eles. Sirvam ao rei da Babilônia, e vivam. Por que esta cidade deveria se tornar uma desolação?
- 18
Mas, se eles são profetas, e se a palavra do SENHOR está com eles, que eles agora intercedam ao SENHOR dos Exércitos, para que os utensílios que restaram na casa do SENHOR, na casa do rei de Judá e em Jerusalém, não vão para a Babilônia.
- 19
Pois assim diz o SENHOR dos Exércitos a respeito das colunas, a respeito do mar, a respeito das bases e a respeito do resto dos utensílios que restaram nesta cidade,
- 20
os quais Nabucodonosor, rei da Babilônia, não levou quando levou cativo Jeconias, filho de Jeoaquim, rei de Judá, de Jerusalém para a Babilônia, e todos os nobres de Judá e de Jerusalém—

sim, assim diz o SENHOR dos Exércitos, o Deus de Israel, a respeito dos utensílios que restaram na casa do SENHOR, na casa do rei de Judá e em Jerusalém:
- 22
‘Eles serão levados para a Babilônia, e lá ficarão, até o dia em que eu os visitar’, diz o SENHOR; ‘então eu os farei subir, e os restaurarei a este lugar.’”

In the beginning of the reign of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, this word came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,

the LORD says to me: “Make bonds and bars, and put them on your neck.
- 3
Then send them to the king of Edom, to the king of Moab, to the king of the children of Ammon, to the king of Tyre, and to the king of Sidon, by the hand of the messengers who come to Jerusalem to Zedekiah king of Judah.

Give them a command to their masters, saying, ‘The LORD of Armies, the God of Israel says, “You shall tell your masters:
- 5
‘I have made the earth, the men, and the animals that are on the surface of the earth by my great power and by my outstretched arm. I give it to whom it seems right to me.
- 6
Now I have given all these lands into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, my servant. I have also given the animals of the field to him to serve him.
- 7
All the nations will serve him, his son, and his son’s son, until the time of his own land comes. Then many nations and great kings will make him their bondservant.
- 8
“‘“‘It will happen that I will punish the nation and the kingdom which will not serve the same Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and that will not put their neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon,’ says the LORD, ‘with the sword, with famine, and with pestilence, until I have consumed them by his hand.
- 9
But as for you, don’t listen to your prophets, to your diviners, to your dreams, to your soothsayers, or to your sorcerers, who speak to you, saying, “You shall not serve the king of Babylon;”
- 10
for they prophesy a lie to you, to remove you far from your land, so that I would drive you out, and you would perish.
- 11
But the nation that brings their neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon and serves him, that nation I will let remain in their own land,’ says the LORD; ‘and they will till it and dwell in it.’”’”
- 12
I spoke to Zedekiah king of Judah according to all these words, saying, “Bring your necks under the yoke of the king of Babylon, and serve him and his people, and live.
- 13
Why will you die, you and your people, by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence, as the LORD has spoken concerning the nation that will not serve the king of Babylon?

Don’t listen to the words of the prophets who speak to you, saying, ‘You shall not serve the king of Babylon;’ for they prophesy a lie to you.
- 15
For I have not sent them,” says the LORD, “but they prophesy falsely in my name; that I may drive you out, and that you may perish, you, and the prophets who prophesy to you.”
- 16
Also I spoke to the priests and to all this people, saying, the LORD says, “Don’t listen to the words of your prophets who prophesy to you, saying, ‘Behold, the vessels of the LORD’s house will now shortly be brought again from Babylon;’ for they prophesy a lie to you.

Don’t listen to them. Serve the king of Babylon, and live. Why should this city become a desolation?
- 18
But if they are prophets, and if the LORD’s word is with them, let them now make intercession to the LORD of Armies, that the vessels which are left in the LORD’s house, in the house of the king of Judah, and at Jerusalem, don’t go to Babylon.

For the LORD of Armies says concerning the pillars, concerning the sea, concerning the bases, and concerning the rest of the vessels that are left in this city,
- 20
which Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon didn’t take when he carried away captive Jeconiah the son of Jehoiakim, king of Judah, from Jerusalem to Babylon, and all the nobles of Judah and Jerusalem—
- 21
yes, the LORD of Armies, the God of Israel, says concerning the vessels that are left in the LORD’s house, and in the house of the king of Judah, and at Jerusalem:
- 22
‘They will be carried to Babylon, and there they will be, until the day that I visit them,’ says the LORD; ‘then I will bring them up, and restore them to this place.’”
