Lucas 4

Logo após o batismo, Jesus é levado pelo Espírito ao deserto para quarenta dias de provação. Os três desafios do diabo — pão de uma pedra, os reinos do mundo, o pináculo do templo — recebem cada um uma linha da Escritura, e o tentador se afasta "até outra ocasião" (v.13). De volta à Galileia, Jesus lê Isaías na sinagoga de Nazaré e o declara cumprido "hoje", o que transforma a admiração em fúria assassina. Dali ele segue para Cafarnaum, onde sua palavra manda até nos demônios.

Jesus, cheio do Espírito Santo, voltou do Jordão e foi guiado pelo Espírito ao deserto

por quarenta dias, sendo tentado pelo diabo. Ele não comeu nada naqueles dias. Depois, quando terminaram, ele teve fome.

O diabo lhe disse: “Se você é o Filho de Deus, mande que esta pedra se transforme em pão.”
4
Jesus lhe respondeu, dizendo: “Está escrito: 'Nem só de pão viverá o homem, mas de toda palavra de Deus.'”
5
O diabo, levando-o a um alto monte, mostrou-lhe todos os reinos do mundo num momento de tempo.
6
O diabo lhe disse: “Eu lhe darei toda esta autoridade e a glória deles, pois isso me foi entregue, e eu o dou a quem eu quiser.
7
Portanto, se você me adorar, tudo será seu.”
8
Jesus lhe respondeu: “Para trás de mim, Satanás! Pois está escrito: 'Ao Senhor, seu Deus, você adorará, e só a ele servirá.'”
9
Ele o levou a Jerusalém, colocou-o no pináculo do templo e lhe disse: “Se você é o Filho de Deus, jogue-se daqui para baixo,

pois está escrito: 'Aos seus anjos ele dará ordens a seu respeito, para o guardar;'
11
e, 'Eles o susterão em suas mãos, para que você não tropece em alguma pedra.'”
12
Jesus, respondendo, disse-lhe: “Foi dito: 'Você não tentará o Senhor, seu Deus.'”
13
Quando o diabo terminou toda tentação, afastou-se dele até momento oportuno.
14
Jesus voltou no poder do Espírito para a Galileia, e as notícias sobre ele se espalharam por toda a região ao redor.
15
Ele ensinava nas sinagogas deles, sendo glorificado por todos.
16
Ele foi a Nazaré, onde havia sido criado. Ele entrou, como era seu costume, na sinagoga no dia de sábado, e levantou-se para ler.

O livro do profeta Isaías lhe foi entregue. Ele abriu o livro e encontrou o lugar onde estava escrito:

“O Espírito do Senhor está sobre mim, porque ele me ungiu para pregar boas-novas aos pobres. Ele me enviou para curar os quebrantados de coração, para proclamar libertação aos cativos, recuperação da vista aos cegos, para libertar os oprimidos,

e para proclamar o ano aceitável do Senhor.”

Ele fechou o livro, devolveu-o ao assistente e sentou-se. Os olhos de todos na sinagoga estavam fixos nele.
21
Ele começou a dizer-lhes: “Hoje, esta Escritura se cumpriu aos seus ouvidos.”
22
Todos davam testemunho dele e se maravilhavam com as palavras de graça que saíam da sua boca; e diziam: “Não é este o filho de José?”
23
Ele lhes disse: “Sem dúvida vocês me citarão este provérbio: 'Médico, cure a si mesmo! Tudo o que ouvimos que foi feito em Cafarnaum, faça também aqui na sua cidade natal.'”
24
Ele disse: “Com toda a certeza lhes digo: nenhum profeta é bem aceito em sua cidade natal.
25
Mas, em verdade lhes digo: havia muitas viúvas em Israel nos dias de Elias, quando o céu se fechou por três anos e seis meses, quando uma grande fome veio sobre toda a terra.
26
Elias não foi enviado a nenhuma delas, senão a Sarepta, na terra de Sidom, a uma mulher que era viúva.
27
Havia muitos leprosos em Israel no tempo do profeta Eliseu, contudo nenhum deles foi purificado, senão Naamã, o sírio.”
28
Todos na sinagoga ficaram cheios de ira ao ouvirem essas coisas.
29
Eles se levantaram, expulsaram-no da cidade e o levaram até o topo do monte sobre o qual a cidade deles estava construída, para que pudessem jogá-lo do penhasco.
30
Mas ele, passando pelo meio deles, seguiu o seu caminho.
31
Ele desceu a Cafarnaum, uma cidade da Galileia. Ele os ensinava no dia de sábado,
32
e eles ficavam maravilhados com o seu ensino, pois a sua palavra era com autoridade.
33
Na sinagoga havia um homem que tinha um espírito de um demônio imundo; e ele gritou em alta voz,
34
dizendo: “Ah! O que temos nós com você, Jesus de Nazaré? Você veio para nos destruir? Eu sei quem você é: o Santo de Deus!”
35
Jesus o repreendeu, dizendo: “Cale-se e saia dele!” Quando o demônio o derrubou no meio deles, saiu dele, sem lhe fazer mal algum.
36
O espanto tomou conta de todos e eles falavam uns com os outros, dizendo: “Que palavra é esta? Pois com autoridade e poder ele dá ordens aos espíritos imundos, e eles saem!”
37
As notícias sobre ele se espalhavam por todos os lugares da região ao redor.
38
Ele se levantou, saiu da sinagoga e entrou na casa de Simão. A sogra de Simão estava sofrendo com uma febre alta, e eles lhe pediram que a ajudasse.
39
Ele se inclinou sobre ela e repreendeu a febre, e a febre a deixou. Imediatamente ela se levantou e passou a servi-los.
40
Quando o sol estava se pondo, todos os que tinham enfermos com várias doenças os trouxeram a ele; e ele impôs as mãos sobre cada um deles, e os curou.
41
Demônios também saíam de muitos, gritando e dizendo: “Você é o Cristo, o Filho de Deus!” Repreendendo-os, ele não lhes permitia falar, porque sabiam que ele era o Cristo.
42
Quando amanheceu, ele partiu e foi para um lugar deserto, e as multidões o procuravam, e foram até ele, e tentavam retê-lo, para que não se afastasse deles.
43
Mas ele lhes disse: “Eu devo pregar as boas-novas do Reino de Deus também às outras cidades. Por esse motivo fui enviado.”
44
E ele pregava nas sinagogas da Galileia.

Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness

for forty days, being tempted by the devil. He ate nothing in those days. Afterward, when they were completed, he was hungry.

The devil said to him, “If you are the Son of God, command this stone to become bread.”
4
Jesus answered him, saying, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.’”
5
The devil, leading him up on a high mountain, showed him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time.
6
The devil said to him, “I will give you all this authority and their glory, for it has been delivered to me, and I give it to whomever I want.
7
If you therefore will worship before me, it will all be yours.”
8
Jesus answered him, “Get behind me, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and you shall serve him only.’”
9
He led him to Jerusalem and set him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, cast yourself down from here,
10
for it is written, ‘He will put his angels in charge of you, to guard you;’
11
and, ‘On their hands they will bear you up, lest perhaps you dash your foot against a stone.’”
12
Jesus answering, said to him, “It has been said, ‘You shall not tempt the Lord your God.’”
13
When the devil had completed every temptation, he departed from him until another time.
14
Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee, and news about him spread through all the surrounding area.
15
He taught in their synagogues, being glorified by all.
16
He came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up. He entered, as was his custom, into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read.
17
The book of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. He opened the book, and found the place where it was written,
18
“The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to heal the broken hearted, to proclaim release to the captives, recovering of sight to the blind, to deliver those who are crushed,
19
and to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.”
20
He closed the book, gave it back to the attendant, and sat down. The eyes of all in the synagogue were fastened on him.
21
He began to tell them, “Today, this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.”
22
All testified about him and wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of his mouth; and they said, “Isn’t this Joseph’s son?”
23
He said to them, “Doubtless you will tell me this proverb, ‘Physician, heal yourself! Whatever we have heard done at Capernaum, do also here in your hometown.’”
24
He said, “Most certainly I tell you, no prophet is acceptable in his hometown.
25
But truly I tell you, there were many widows in Israel in the days of Elijah, when the sky was shut up three years and six months, when a great famine came over all the land.
26
Elijah was sent to none of them, except to Zarephath, in the land of Sidon, to a woman who was a widow.
27
There were many lepers in Israel in the time of Elisha the prophet, yet not one of them was cleansed, except Naaman, the Syrian.”
28
They were all filled with wrath in the synagogue as they heard these things.
29
They rose up, threw him out of the city, and led him to the brow of the hill that their city was built on, that they might throw him off the cliff.
30
But he, passing through the middle of them, went his way.
31
He came down to Capernaum, a city of Galilee. He was teaching them on the Sabbath day,
32
and they were astonished at his teaching, for his word was with authority.
33
In the synagogue there was a man who had a spirit of an unclean demon; and he cried out with a loud voice,
34
saying, “Ah! what have we to do with you, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are: the Holy One of God!”
35
Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Be silent and come out of him!” When the demon had thrown him down in the middle of them, he came out of him, having done him no harm.
36
Amazement came on all and they spoke together, one with another, saying, “What is this word? For with authority and power he commands the unclean spirits, and they come out!”
37
News about him went out into every place of the surrounding region.
38
He rose up from the synagogue and entered into Simon’s house. Simon’s mother-in-law was afflicted with a great fever, and they begged him to help her.
39
He stood over her and rebuked the fever, and it left her. Immediately she rose up and served them.
40
When the sun was setting, all those who had any sick with various diseases brought them to him; and he laid his hands on every one of them, and healed them.
41
Demons also came out of many, crying out and saying, “You are the Christ, the Son of God!” Rebuking them, he didn’t allow them to speak, because they knew that he was the Christ.
42
When it was day, he departed and went into an uninhabited place and the multitudes looked for him, and came to him, and held on to him, so that he wouldn’t go away from them.
43
But he said to them, “I must preach the good news of God’s Kingdom to the other cities also. For this reason I have been sent.”
44
He was preaching in the synagogues of Galilee.

Acolhido e quase atirado de um penhasco

A cena de Nazaré vira depressa. O povo se admira de suas palavras de graça e pergunta "Não é este o filho de José?" (v.22), mas quando ele lembra que Elias e Eliseu foram enviados a uma viúva de Sidom e a Naamã, o sírio, estrangeiros, a sinagoga se enche de ira e o leva ao cume do monte (vv.25-29).

Lucas coloca essa rejeição logo no início do ministério público, enquadrando tudo o que vem depois. O exorcismo em Cafarnaum que responde de imediato mostra a autoridade que Nazaré se recusou a honrar.
