Marcos 13
Ao sair do templo, Jesus responde à admiração de um discípulo pelas grandes pedras prevendo que não ficará pedra sobre pedra. No monte das Oliveiras, Pedro, Tiago, João e André perguntam em particular quando e como, e ele profere um longo discurso sobre guerras, perseguição, a "abominação da desolação," abalos cósmicos e a vinda do Filho do Homem. A ordem repetida é a chave: vigiar, estar alerta, pois ninguém sabe o dia nem a hora (vv. 32-37).

Ao sair do templo, um dos seus discípulos lhe disse: “Mestre, veja que pedras e que edifícios!”

Jesus lhe disse: “Você vê estes grandes edifícios? Não ficará aqui pedra sobre pedra que não seja derrubada.”

Estando ele assentado no monte das Oliveiras, de frente para o templo, Pedro, Tiago, João e André lhe perguntaram em particular:

“Diga-nos, quando acontecerão estas coisas? E qual será o sinal de que todas estas coisas estão prestes a se cumprir?”

Jesus, respondendo, começou a dizer-lhes: “Cuidado para que ninguém os engane.
- 6
Pois muitos virão em meu nome, dizendo: ‘Sou eu!’ e enganarão a muitos.
- 7
“Quando ouvirem de guerras e rumores de guerras, não se perturbem. Pois é necessário que isso aconteça, mas ainda não é o fim.
- 8
Pois nação se levantará contra nação, e reino contra reino. Haverá terremotos em vários lugares. Haverá fomes e tribulações. Estas coisas são o princípio das dores.

“Mas tenham cuidado com vocês mesmos, pois eles os entregarão aos tribunais. Vocês serão espancados nas sinagogas. Vocês comparecerão perante governadores e reis por minha causa, para lhes servir de testemunho.

Mas primeiro o Evangelho deve ser pregado a todas as nações.

Quando os levarem e os entregarem, não se preocupem antecipadamente nem premeditem o que irão dizer, mas digam o que lhes for dado naquela hora. Pois não são vocês que falam, mas o Espírito Santo.

“O irmão entregará à morte o irmão, e o pai ao filho. Os filhos se levantarão contra os pais e os farão morrer.
- 13
Vocês serão odiados por todos por causa do meu nome, mas aquele que perseverar até o fim será salvo.

“Mas, quando vocês virem a abominação da desolação, de que falou o profeta Daniel, instalada onde não deve estar” (quem lê, entenda), “então, os que estiverem na Judeia fujam para os montes,
- 15
e quem estiver no telhado não desça, nem entre, para tirar alguma coisa de sua casa.
- 16
E quem estiver no campo não volte atrás para buscar a sua capa.
- 17
Mas ai das grávidas e das que amamentarem naqueles dias!
- 18
Orem para que a fuga de vocês não aconteça no inverno.
- 19
Pois naqueles dias haverá uma tribulação tal, como nunca houve desde o princípio da criação que Deus criou até agora, e nunca jamais haverá.
- 20
Se o Senhor não tivesse abreviado aqueles dias, ninguém seria salvo; mas, por causa dos escolhidos, que ele elegeu, ele abreviou aqueles dias.

Então, se alguém lhes disser: ‘Vejam, aqui está o Cristo!’ ou ‘Vejam, ali está!’, não acreditem.

Pois se levantarão falsos cristos e falsos profetas, e farão sinais e maravilhas, para enganar, se possível, até os escolhidos.

Mas fiquem atentos. “Eis que eu lhes avisei tudo de antemão.
- 24
Mas naqueles dias, depois daquela tribulação, o sol escurecerá, a lua não dará a sua luz,
- 25
as estrelas cairão do céu, e os poderes que estão nos céus serão abalados.
- 26
Então verão o Filho do Homem vindo nas nuvens com grande poder e glória.
- 27
E ele enviará os seus anjos, e reunirá os seus escolhidos dos quatro ventos, desde os confins da terra até os confins do céu.
- 28
“Agora, aprendam esta parábola da figueira: Quando o seu ramo se torna tenro e brotam as suas folhas, vocês sabem que o verão está próximo;

assim também vocês, quando virem acontecer estas coisas, saibam que ele está próximo, às portas.
- 30
Com toda a certeza lhes digo: esta geração não passará até que todas estas coisas aconteçam.

O céu e a terra passarão, mas as minhas palavras não passarão.
- 32
“Mas a respeito daquele dia ou daquela hora ninguém sabe — nem mesmo os anjos no céu, nem o Filho, mas somente o Pai.
- 33
Fiquem atentos, vigiem e orem; pois vocês não sabem quando chegará o tempo.
- 34
“É como um homem que, viajando para outro país, deixa a sua casa e dá autoridade aos seus servos, e a cada um a sua obra, e também ordena ao porteiro que vigie.
- 35
Vigiem, portanto, pois vocês não sabem quando o senhor da casa virá — se à tarde, ou à meia-noite, ou ao cantar do galo, ou pela manhã;
- 36
para que, vindo de repente, não os encontre dormindo.
- 37
O que lhes digo, digo a todos: Vigiem!”

As he went out of the temple, one of his disciples said to him, “Teacher, see what kind of stones and what kind of buildings!”

Jesus said to him, “Do you see these great buildings? There will not be left here one stone on another, which will not be thrown down.”
- 3
As he sat on the Mount of Olives opposite the temple, Peter, James, John, and Andrew asked him privately,
- 4
“Tell us, when will these things be? What is the sign that these things are all about to be fulfilled?”
- 5
Jesus, answering, began to tell them, “Be careful that no one leads you astray.
- 6
For many will come in my name, saying, ‘I am he!’ and will lead many astray.
- 7
“When you hear of wars and rumors of wars, don’t be troubled. For those must happen, but the end is not yet.
- 8
For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be earthquakes in various places. There will be famines and troubles. These things are the beginning of birth pains.

“But watch yourselves, for they will deliver you up to councils. You will be beaten in synagogues. You will stand before rulers and kings for my sake, for a testimony to them.
- 10
The Good News must first be preached to all the nations.
- 11
When they lead you away and deliver you up, don’t be anxious beforehand or premeditate what you will say, but say whatever will be given you in that hour. For it is not you who speak, but the Holy Spirit.

“Brother will deliver up brother to death, and the father his child. Children will rise up against parents and cause them to be put to death.
- 13
You will be hated by all men for my name’s sake, but he who endures to the end will be saved.
- 14
“But when you see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing where it ought not” (let the reader understand), “then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains,
- 15
and let him who is on the housetop not go down, nor enter in, to take anything out of his house.
- 16
Let him who is in the field not return back to take his cloak.
- 17
But woe to those who are with child and to those who nurse babies in those days!
- 18
Pray that your flight won’t be in the winter.
- 19
For in those days there will be oppression, such as there has not been the like from the beginning of the creation which God created until now, and never will be.
- 20
Unless the Lord had shortened the days, no flesh would have been saved; but for the sake of the chosen ones, whom he picked out, he shortened the days.

Then if anyone tells you, ‘Look, here is the Christ!’ or, ‘Look, there!’ don’t believe it.
- 22
For false christs and false prophets will arise and will show signs and wonders, that they may lead astray, if possible, even the chosen ones.

But you watch. “Behold, I have told you all things beforehand.
- 24
But in those days, after that oppression, the sun will be darkened, the moon will not give its light,
- 25
the stars will be falling from the sky, and the powers that are in the heavens will be shaken.
- 26
Then they will see the Son of Man coming in clouds with great power and glory.
- 27
Then he will send out his angels, and will gather together his chosen ones from the four winds, from the ends of the earth to the ends of the sky.
- 28
“Now from the fig tree, learn this parable. When the branch has now become tender and produces its leaves, you know that the summer is near;
- 29
even so you also, when you see these things coming to pass, know that it is near, at the doors.
- 30
Most certainly I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things happen.

Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.

“But of that day or that hour no one knows—not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.
- 33
Watch, keep alert, and pray; for you don’t know when the time is.
- 34
“It is like a man traveling to another country, having left his house and given authority to his servants, and to each one his work, and also commanded the doorkeeper to keep watch.
- 35
Watch therefore, for you don’t know when the lord of the house is coming—whether at evening, or at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or in the morning;
- 36
lest, coming suddenly, he might find you sleeping.
- 37
What I tell you, I tell all: Watch!”
O porteiro que não deve dormir
O discurso encerra com uma breve parábola (vv. 34-37): um homem viaja para longe, dá trabalho a cada servo e ordena ao porteiro que vigie, pois o dono pode voltar ao entardecer, à meia-noite, ao cantar do galo ou de manhã. As quatro vigílias da noite emolduram o aviso. Jesus o estende além dos quatro que perguntaram: "O que lhes digo, digo a todos: Vigiem!"
