Noemi, a sua sogra, lhe disse: “Minha filha, não deverei eu buscar-lhe um lar seguro, para que tudo lhe vá bem?

Ora, Boaz não é nosso parente, com cujas servas você esteve? Eis que esta noite ele estará joeirando a cevada na eira.

Portanto, banhe-se, perfume-se, vista as suas melhores roupas e desça até a eira; mas não se dê a conhecer ao homem até que ele tenha terminado de comer e beber.

E acontecerá que, quando ele se deitar, você notará o lugar onde ele estiver deitado. Então você irá, descobrirá os pés dele e se deitará. E ele lhe dirá o que deve fazer.”

Ela lhe disse: “Tudo o que você me disser, eu farei.”

Ela desceu à eira e fez tudo conforme a sua sogra lhe havia ordenado.

Quando Boaz terminou de comer e beber, e o seu coração estava alegre, ele foi deitar-se ao lado do monte de grãos. Ela se aproximou de mansinho, descobriu os pés dele e se deitou.

À meia-noite, o homem se assustou e se virou; e eis que uma mulher estava deitada aos seus pés.

Ele perguntou: “Quem é você?” Ela respondeu: “Sou Rute, a sua serva. Estenda a aba da sua capa sobre a sua serva, pois o senhor é um resgatador.”

Ele disse: “Que você seja abençoada pelo SENHOR, minha filha. Você demonstrou mais lealdade agora do que no princípio, pois não foi atrás de jovens, fossem eles pobres ou ricos.

Agora, minha filha, não tenha medo. Eu farei por você tudo o que me pedir; pois todos na cidade do meu povo sabem que você é uma mulher virtuosa.

Ora, é verdade que sou um resgatador. Contudo, há um resgatador mais próximo do que eu.
- 13
Passe a noite aqui, e de manhã, se ele quiser cumprir o seu dever de resgatador, muito bem. Que ele o faça. Mas se ele não quiser assumir a responsabilidade de resgatador por você, então eu farei o papel de resgatador por você, tão certo como o SENHOR vive. Deite-se até a manhã.”

Ela ficou deitada aos pés dele até a manhã, mas levantou-se antes que fosse possível reconhecer o rosto de alguém. Pois ele havia dito: “Que não se saiba que a mulher veio à eira.”

Ele disse também: “Traga o manto que você está usando e segure-o.” Ela o segurou, e ele mediu seis medidas de cevada, e colocou sobre ela; então ele foi para a cidade.

Quando ela chegou à sua sogra, esta lhe perguntou: “Como foi, minha filha?” Ela lhe contou tudo o que o homem havia feito por ela.

E acrescentou: “Ele me deu estas seis medidas de cevada, pois me disse: ‘Não volte de mãos vazias para a sua sogra.’”

Então Noemi disse: “Espere, minha filha, até saber o que acontecerá; pois o homem não descansará até que tenha resolvido este assunto hoje.”

Naomi her mother-in-law said to her, “My daughter, shall I not seek rest for you, that it may be well with you?

Now isn’t Boaz our kinsman, with whose maidens you were? Behold, he will be winnowing barley tonight on the threshing floor.

Therefore wash yourself, anoint yourself, get dressed, and go down to the threshing floor; but don’t make yourself known to the man until he has finished eating and drinking.

It shall be, when he lies down, that you shall note the place where he is lying. Then you shall go in, uncover his feet, and lie down. Then he will tell you what to do.”

She said to her, “All that you say, I will do.”

She went down to the threshing floor, and did everything that her mother-in-law told her.

When Boaz had eaten and drunk, and his heart was merry, he went to lie down at the end of the heap of grain. She came softly, uncovered his feet, and lay down.

At midnight, the man was startled and turned himself; and behold, a woman lay at his feet.
- 9
He said, “Who are you?” She answered, “I am Ruth your servant. Therefore spread the corner of your garment over your servant; for you are a near kinsman.”

He said, “You are blessed by the LORD, my daughter. You have shown more kindness in the latter end than at the beginning, because you didn’t follow young men, whether poor or rich.
- 11
Now, my daughter, don’t be afraid. I will do to you all that you say; for all the city of my people knows that you are a worthy woman.
- 12
Now it is true that I am a near kinsman. However, there is a kinsman nearer than I.
- 13
Stay this night, and in the morning, if he will perform for you the part of a kinsman, good. Let him do the kinsman’s duty. But if he will not do the duty of a kinsman for you, then I will do the duty of a kinsman for you, as the LORD lives. Lie down until the morning.”

She lay at his feet until the morning, then she rose up before one could discern another. For he said, “Let it not be known that the woman came to the threshing floor.”

He said, “Bring the mantle that is on you, and hold it.” She held it; and he measured six measures of barley, and laid it on her; then he went into the city.
- 16
When she came to her mother-in-law, she said, “How did it go, my daughter?” She told her all that the man had done for her.
- 17
She said, “He gave me these six measures of barley; for he said, ‘Don’t go empty to your mother-in-law.’”
- 18
Then she said, “Wait, my daughter, until you know what will happen; for the man will not rest until he has settled this today.”
