Salmos 33
Um chamado aos justos para pegar a harpa e o saltério de dez cordas e cantar um cântico novo se abre para algo maior: os céus feitos por uma palavra, as águas do mar ajuntadas, os abismos guardados em depósitos. O louvor se apoia em como Deus criou e em como governa. Repare na virada no v.16. Depois da escala cósmica, o salmo esvazia a confiança humana: nenhum rei se salva por um grande exército, e o cavalo é coisa vã para a vitória.

Alegrem-se no SENHOR, ó justos! O louvor convém aos retos.

Deem graças ao SENHOR com a lira. Cantem louvores a ele com a harpa de dez cordas.

Cantem a ele um cântico novo. Toquem com habilidade e com gritos de alegria!

Pois a palavra do SENHOR é reta. Toda a sua obra é feita com fidelidade.

Ele ama a justiça e o direito. A terra está cheia da bondade do SENHOR.

Pela palavra do SENHOR os céus foram feitos; e todo o seu exército, pelo sopro da sua boca.

Ele ajunta as águas do mar como num monte; ele guarda as profundezas em depósitos.

Que toda a terra tema ao SENHOR. Que todos os habitantes do mundo o reverenciem.

Pois ele falou, e tudo foi feito. Ele ordenou, e tudo se firmou.

O SENHOR reduz a nada o conselho das nações; ele frustra os pensamentos dos povos.
- 11
O conselho do SENHOR permanece para sempre, os pensamentos do seu coração, por todas as gerações.

Bem-aventurada a nação cujo Deus é o SENHOR, o povo que ele escolheu para sua própria herança.

O SENHOR olha dos céus. Ele vê todos os filhos dos homens.
- 14
Do lugar da sua habitação, ele observa todos os habitantes da terra;
- 15
ele, que forma o coração de todos eles; e que atenta para todas as suas obras.
- 16
Nenhum rei é salvo pela multidão de um exército. Um valente não é liberto pela sua grande força.

O cavalo é uma vã esperança de segurança; e com a sua grande força não pode livrar ninguém.

Eis que os olhos do SENHOR estão sobre os que o temem, sobre os que esperam na sua bondade,

para livrar a alma deles da morte, e para mantê-los vivos na fome.

A nossa alma tem esperado no SENHOR. Ele é o nosso auxílio e o nosso escudo.

Pois nele se alegra o nosso coração, porque temos confiado no seu santo nome.

Que a tua bondade esteja sobre nós, SENHOR, visto que temos esperado em ti.

Rejoice in the LORD, you righteous! Praise is fitting for the upright.

Give thanks to the LORD with the lyre. Sing praises to him with the harp of ten strings.

Sing to him a new song. Play skillfully with a shout of joy!

For the LORD’s word is right. All his work is done in faithfulness.

He loves righteousness and justice. The earth is full of the loving kindness of the LORD.

By the LORD’s word, the heavens were made: all their army by the breath of his mouth.

He gathers the waters of the sea together as a heap. He lays up the deeps in storehouses.

Let all the earth fear the LORD. Let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him.

For he spoke, and it was done. He commanded, and it stood firm.
- 10
The LORD brings the counsel of the nations to nothing. He makes the thoughts of the peoples to be of no effect.
- 11
The counsel of the LORD stands fast forever, the thoughts of his heart to all generations.
- 12
Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people whom he has chosen for his own inheritance.
- 13
The LORD looks from heaven. He sees all the sons of men.
- 14
From the place of his habitation he looks out on all the inhabitants of the earth,
- 15
he who fashions all of their hearts; and he considers all of their works.
- 16
There is no king saved by the multitude of an army. A mighty man is not delivered by great strength.
- 17
A horse is a vain thing for safety, neither does he deliver any by his great power.
- 18
Behold, the LORD’s eye is on those who fear him, on those who hope in his loving kindness,
- 19
to deliver their soul from death, to keep them alive in famine.
- 20
Our soul has waited for the LORD. He is our help and our shield.
- 21
For our heart rejoices in him, because we have trusted in his holy name.
- 22
Let your loving kindness be on us, LORD, since we have hoped in you.
Sem assinatura, e dito à existência
Ao contrário dos salmos vizinhos, o 33 não traz nome no cabeçalho, e sua voz é plural no fecho: "A nossa alma espera" (v.20). Soa como uma assembleia que responde, não como a queixa de um só homem.
A linguagem de criação é proposital: ele falou e tudo se fez (v.9), eco de Gênesis 1; depois essa mesma força anula o conselho das nações (v.10).
