Depois destas coisas, Nabote, o jezreelita, tinha uma vinha que ficava em Jezreel, ao lado do palácio de Acabe, rei de Samaria.

Acabe falou a Nabote, dizendo: “Dê-me a sua vinha, para que eu a tenha como uma horta, porque fica perto da minha casa; e em troca eu lhe darei uma vinha melhor do que ela. Ou, se parecer bem a você, eu lhe darei o seu valor em dinheiro.”

Nabote disse a Acabe: “Que o SENHOR me livre de dar a você a herança dos meus pais!”

Acabe foi para a sua casa aborrecido e indignado por causa da palavra que Nabote, o jezreelita, lhe havia falado, pois ele tinha dito: “Não lhe darei a herança dos meus pais.” Ele se deitou na sua cama, virou o rosto e não quis comer pão.

Mas Jezabel, sua mulher, aproximou-se dele e lhe disse: “Por que o seu espírito está tão triste a ponto de você não comer pão?”

Ele lhe disse: “Porque eu falei com Nabote, o jezreelita, e lhe disse: 'Dê-me a sua vinha por dinheiro; ou então, se for do seu agrado, eu lhe darei outra vinha em troca.' Ele respondeu: 'Não lhe darei a minha vinha.'”

Jezabel, sua mulher, lhe disse: “Você não governa agora o reino de Israel? Levante-se, coma pão e alegre o seu coração. Eu lhe darei a vinha de Nabote, o jezreelita.”

Então ela escreveu cartas em nome de Acabe, selou-as com o selo dele, e enviou as cartas aos anciãos e aos nobres que estavam na cidade dele, que moravam com Nabote.

Ela escreveu nas cartas, dizendo: “Proclamem um jejum e coloquem Nabote em destaque entre o povo.

Coloquem dois homens, homens perversos, diante dele, e que eles testemunhem contra ele, dizendo: 'Você amaldiçoou a Deus e ao rei!' Depois, levem-no para fora e apedrejem-no até a morte.”

Os homens da sua cidade, os anciãos e os nobres que moravam na sua cidade, fizeram como Jezabel os havia instruído nas cartas que ela tinha escrito e enviado a eles.

Eles proclamaram um jejum e colocaram Nabote em destaque entre o povo.
- 13
Os dois homens, os homens perversos, entraram e se sentaram diante dele. Os homens perversos testemunharam contra ele, contra Nabote, na presença do povo, dizendo: “Nabote amaldiçoou a Deus e ao rei!” Então eles o levaram para fora da cidade e o apedrejaram até a morte com pedras.

Então mandaram dizer a Jezabel: “Nabote foi apedrejado e está morto.”

Quando Jezabel ouviu que Nabote tinha sido apedrejado e estava morto, Jezabel disse a Acabe: “Levante-se, tome posse da vinha de Nabote, o jezreelita, que ele se recusou a dar a você por dinheiro; pois Nabote não está vivo, mas morto.”

Quando Acabe ouviu que Nabote estava morto, Acabe se levantou para descer à vinha de Nabote, o jezreelita, para tomar posse dela.

A palavra do SENHOR veio a Elias, o tesbita, dizendo:

“Levante-se, desça para encontrar Acabe, rei de Israel, que habita em Samaria. Eis que ele está na vinha de Nabote, para onde desceu a fim de tomar posse dela.
- 19
Você falará a ele, dizendo: 'Assim diz o SENHOR: “Você matou e também tomou posse?”' Você falará a ele, dizendo: 'Assim diz o SENHOR: “No lugar onde os cães lamberam o sangue de Nabote, os cães lamberão o seu sangue, sim, o seu próprio sangue.”'”

Acabe disse a Elias: “Você me encontrou, meu inimigo?” Ele respondeu: “Eu o encontrei, porque você se vendeu para fazer o que é mau aos olhos do SENHOR.

Eis que trarei o mal sobre você, e o varrerei completamente, e eliminarei de Acabe todo aquele que urina contra a parede, tanto o que está preso quanto o que está livre em Israel.

Farei a sua casa como a casa de Jeroboão, filho de Nebate, e como a casa de Baasa, filho de Aías, por causa da provocação com a qual você me provocou à ira, e fez Israel pecar.”

O SENHOR também falou de Jezabel, dizendo: “Os cães comerão Jezabel junto à muralha de Jezreel.
- 24
Os cães comerão quem de Acabe morrer na cidade; e as aves do céu comerão quem morrer no campo.”
- 25
Mas não houve ninguém como Acabe, que se vendeu para fazer o que era mau aos olhos do SENHOR, a quem Jezabel, sua mulher, instigou.

Ele agiu de forma muito abominável seguindo ídolos, de acordo com tudo o que os amorreus faziam, os quais o SENHOR expulsou de diante dos filhos de Israel.

Quando Acabe ouviu essas palavras, ele rasgou as suas roupas, colocou pano de saco sobre o seu corpo, jejuou, deitou-se em pano de saco e andava abatido.

A palavra do SENHOR veio a Elias, o tesbita, dizendo:

“Você viu como Acabe se humilha perante mim? Porque ele se humilha perante mim, não trarei o mal nos seus dias; mas trarei o mal sobre a sua casa nos dias do seu filho.”

After these things, Naboth the Jezreelite had a vineyard which was in Jezreel, next to the palace of Ahab king of Samaria.

Ahab spoke to Naboth, saying, “Give me your vineyard, that I may have it for a garden of herbs, because it is near my house; and I will give you for it a better vineyard than it. Or, if it seems good to you, I will give you its worth in money.”

Naboth said to Ahab, “May the LORD forbid me, that I should give the inheritance of my fathers to you!”
- 4
Ahab came into his house sullen and angry because of the word which Naboth the Jezreelite had spoken to him, for he had said, “I will not give you the inheritance of my fathers.” He laid himself down on his bed, and turned away his face, and would eat no bread.

But Jezebel his wife came to him, and said to him, “Why is your spirit so sad that you eat no bread?”

He said to her, “Because I spoke to Naboth the Jezreelite, and said to him, ‘Give me your vineyard for money; or else, if it pleases you, I will give you another vineyard for it.’ He answered, ‘I will not give you my vineyard.’”

Jezebel his wife said to him, “Do you now govern the kingdom of Israel? Arise, and eat bread, and let your heart be merry. I will give you the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite.”

So she wrote letters in Ahab’s name and sealed them with his seal, and sent the letters to the elders and to the nobles who were in his city, who lived with Naboth.

She wrote in the letters, saying, “Proclaim a fast, and set Naboth on high among the people.
- 10
Set two men, wicked fellows, before him, and let them testify against him, saying, ‘You cursed God and the king!’ Then carry him out, and stone him to death.”

The men of his city, even the elders and the nobles who lived in his city, did as Jezebel had instructed them in the letters which she had written and sent to them.
- 12
They proclaimed a fast, and set Naboth on high among the people.
- 13
The two men, the wicked fellows, came in and sat before him. The wicked fellows testified against him, even against Naboth, in the presence of the people, saying, “Naboth cursed God and the king!” Then they carried him out of the city and stoned him to death with stones.

Then they sent to Jezebel, saying, “Naboth has been stoned and is dead.”

When Jezebel heard that Naboth had been stoned and was dead, Jezebel said to Ahab, “Arise, take possession of the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite, which he refused to give you for money; for Naboth is not alive, but dead.”

When Ahab heard that Naboth was dead, Ahab rose up to go down to the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite, to take possession of it.

The LORD’s word came to Elijah the Tishbite, saying,
- 18
“Arise, go down to meet Ahab king of Israel, who dwells in Samaria. Behold, he is in the vineyard of Naboth, where he has gone down to take possession of it.

You shall speak to him, saying, ‘The LORD says, “Have you killed and also taken possession?”’ You shall speak to him, saying, ‘The LORD says, “In the place where dogs licked the blood of Naboth, dogs will lick your blood, even yours.”’”

Ahab said to Elijah, “Have you found me, my enemy?” He answered, “I have found you, because you have sold yourself to do that which is evil in the LORD’s sight.

Behold, I will bring evil on you, and will utterly sweep you away and will cut off from Ahab everyone who urinates against a wall, and him who is shut up and him who is left at large in Israel.

I will make your house like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha the son of Ahijah, for the provocation with which you have provoked me to anger, and have made Israel to sin.”

The LORD also spoke of Jezebel, saying, “The dogs will eat Jezebel by the rampart of Jezreel.
- 24
The dogs will eat whoever dies of Ahab in the city; and the birds of the sky will eat whoever dies in the field.”

But there was no one like Ahab, who sold himself to do that which was evil in the LORD’s sight, whom Jezebel his wife stirred up.

He did very abominably in following idols, according to all that the Amorites did, whom the LORD cast out before the children of Israel.

When Ahab heard those words, he tore his clothes, put sackcloth on his body, fasted, lay in sackcloth, and went about despondently.

The LORD’s word came to Elijah the Tishbite, saying,
- 29
“See how Ahab humbles himself before me? Because he humbles himself before me, I will not bring the evil in his days; but I will bring the evil on his house in his son’s day.”
