Agora nas coisas que estamos dizendo, o ponto principal é o seguinte: temos um sumo sacerdote, que se sentou à direita do trono da Majestade nos céus,

um servo do santuário e do verdadeiro tabernáculo que o Senhor armou, não o homem.

Para cada sumo sacerdote é nomeado para oferecer tanto presentes como sacrifícios. Portanto, é necessário que este sumo sacerdote também tenha algo a oferecer.

Pois se ele estivesse na terra, não seria sacerdote de modo algum, visto que há sacerdotes que oferecem os dons segundo a lei,

que servem uma cópia e sombra das coisas celestiais, como Moisés foi avisado por Deus quando estava prestes a fazer o tabernáculo, pois ele disse: “Vede, tudo fareis segundo o modelo que vos foi mostrado na montanha”.

Mas agora ele obteve um ministério mais excelente, por mais que ele seja também o mediador de um pacto melhor, que sobre melhores promessas foi dado como lei.

Pois se esse primeiro pacto tivesse sido impecável, então nenhum lugar teria sido procurado por um segundo.

Por ter encontrado falhas com eles, disse ele, “Eis que os dias estão chegando”, diz o Senhor, “que farei um novo convênio com a casa de Israel e com a casa de Judá”;
- 9
não de acordo com o pacto que eu fiz com seus pais no dia em que os tomei pela mão para conduzi-los para fora da terra do Egito; pois eles não continuaram no meu convênio, e eu os ignorei”, diz o Senhor.

“Pois este é o convênio que farei com a casa de Israel depois daqueles dias”, diz o Senhor: “Vou colocar minhas leis na mente deles; Também vou escrevê-los em seu coração. Eu serei o Deus deles, e eles serão o meu povo.

Eles não ensinarão a cada homem seus concidadãos e cada homem seu irmão, dizendo: “Conhece o Senhor”. pois todos me conhecerão, de seu menor para seu maior.

Pois serei misericordioso com sua iniqüidade. Não me lembrarei mais de seus pecados e atos sem lei”.

Naquele que ele diz, “Um novo pacto”, ele tornou o primeiro obsoleto. Mas o que está se tornando obsoleto e envelhecendo está quase desaparecendo.

Now in the things which we are saying, the main point is this: we have such a high priest, who sat down on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens,

a servant of the sanctuary and of the true tabernacle which the Lord pitched, not man.

For every high priest is appointed to offer both gifts and sacrifices. Therefore it is necessary that this high priest also have something to offer.

For if he were on earth, he would not be a priest at all, seeing there are priests who offer the gifts according to the law,
- 5
who serve a copy and shadow of the heavenly things, even as Moses was warned by God when he was about to make the tabernacle, for he said, “See, you shall make everything according to the pattern that was shown to you on the mountain.”

But now he has obtained a more excellent ministry, by as much as he is also the mediator of a better covenant, which on better promises has been given as law.

For if that first covenant had been faultless, then no place would have been sought for a second.
- 8
For finding fault with them, he said, “Behold, the days are coming”, says the Lord, “that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah;

not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; for they didn’t continue in my covenant, and I disregarded them,” says the Lord.

“For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days,” says the Lord: “I will put my laws into their mind; I will also write them on their heart. I will be their God, and they will be my people.
- 11
They will not teach every man his fellow citizen and every man his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for all will know me, from their least to their greatest.
- 12
For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness. I will remember their sins and lawless deeds no more.”
- 13
In that he says, “A new covenant”, he has made the first obsolete. But that which is becoming obsolete and grows aged is near to vanishing away.
