Now concerning things sacrificed to idols: We know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up.

But if anyone thinks that he knows anything, he doesn’t yet know as he ought to know.

But anyone who loves God is known by him.
- 4
Therefore concerning the eating of things sacrificed to idols, we know that no idol is anything in the world, and that there is no other God but one.

For though there are things that are called “gods”, whether in the heavens or on earth—as there are many “gods” and many “lords”—
- 6
yet to us there is one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we for him; and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things, and we live through him.
- 7
However, that knowledge isn’t in all men. But some, with consciousness of an idol until now, eat as of a thing sacrificed to an idol, and their conscience, being weak, is defiled.

But food will not commend us to God. For neither, if we don’t eat are we the worse, nor if we eat are we the better.

But be careful that by no means does this liberty of yours become a stumbling block to the weak.

For if a man sees you who have knowledge sitting in an idol’s temple, won’t his conscience, if he is weak, be emboldened to eat things sacrificed to idols?

And through your knowledge, he who is weak perishes, the brother for whose sake Christ died.
- 12
Thus, sinning against the brothers, and wounding their conscience when it is weak, you sin against Christ.

Therefore, if food causes my brother to stumble, I will eat no meat forever more, that I don’t cause my brother to stumble.

Agora, quanto às coisas sacrificadas aos ídolos: Sabemos que todos nós temos conhecimento. O conhecimento ensoberbece, mas o amor edifica.

Mas se alguém pensa que sabe alguma coisa, ainda não sabe como deveria saber.

Mas quem ama a Deus é conhecido por ele.
- 4
Portanto, quanto a comer alimentos sacrificados aos ídolos, sabemos que o ídolo não é nada no mundo, e que não há outro Deus senão um só.

Pois, embora existam os que são chamados de “deuses”, quer nos céus, quer na terra — como de fato há muitos “deuses” e muitos “senhores” —

contudo, para nós há um só Deus, o Pai, de quem são todas as coisas, e nós para ele; e um só Senhor, Jesus Cristo, por meio de quem são todas as coisas, e nós vivemos por meio dele.

No entanto, esse conhecimento não está em todos. Mas alguns, tendo até agora a consciência do ídolo, comem o alimento como se fosse sacrificado a um ídolo, e a consciência deles, sendo fraca, fica contaminada.

Mas a comida não nos recomendará a Deus. Pois não seremos piores se não comermos, nem seremos melhores se comermos.

Mas tenham cuidado para que de modo algum essa liberdade de vocês se torne uma pedra de tropeço para os fracos.
- 10
Pois se alguém vir você, que tem conhecimento, sentado no templo de um ídolo, a consciência dele, se ele for fraco, não será encorajada a comer coisas sacrificadas aos ídolos?

E assim, por causa do seu conhecimento, perece aquele que é fraco, o irmão por quem Cristo morreu.

Desse modo, pecando contra os irmãos e ferindo a consciência deles quando é fraca, vocês pecam contra Cristo.
- 13
Portanto, se a comida faz meu irmão tropeçar, nunca mais comerei carne, para não fazer meu irmão tropeçar.
