In the ninth year of his reign, in the tenth month, in the tenth day of the month, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came, he and all his army, against Jerusalem, and encamped against it; and they built forts against it around it.

So the city was besieged until the eleventh year of King Zedekiah.

On the ninth day of the fourth month, the famine was severe in the city, so that there was no bread for the people of the land.
- 4
Then a breach was made in the city, and all the men of war fled by night by the way of the gate between the two walls, which was by the king’s garden (now the Chaldeans were against the city around it); and the king went by the way of the Arabah.

But the Chaldean army pursued the king, and overtook him in the plains of Jericho; and all his army was scattered from him.
- 6
Then they captured the king and carried him up to the king of Babylon to Riblah; and they passed judgment on him.

They killed Zedekiah’s sons before his eyes, then put out Zedekiah’s eyes, bound him in fetters, and carried him to Babylon.

Now in the fifth month, on the seventh day of the month, which was the nineteenth year of King Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard, a servant of the king of Babylon, came to Jerusalem.

He burned the LORD’s house, the king’s house, and all the houses of Jerusalem. He burned every great house with fire.

All the army of the Chaldeans, who were with the captain of the guard, broke down the walls around Jerusalem.
- 11
Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard carried away captive the rest of the people who were left in the city and those who had deserted to the king of Babylon—all the rest of the multitude.

But the captain of the guard left some of the poorest of the land to work the vineyards and fields.
- 13
The Chaldeans broke up the pillars of bronze that were in the LORD’s house and the bases and the bronze sea that were in the LORD’s house, and carried the bronze pieces to Babylon.

They took away the pots, the shovels, the snuffers, the spoons, and all the vessels of bronze with which they ministered.
- 15
The captain of the guard took away the fire pans, the basins, that which was of gold, for gold, and that which was of silver, for silver.
- 16
The two pillars, the one sea, and the bases, which Solomon had made for the LORD’s house, the bronze of all these vessels was not weighed.
- 17
The height of the one pillar was eighteen cubits, and a capital of bronze was on it. The height of the capital was three cubits, with network and pomegranates on the capital around it, all of bronze; and the second pillar with its network was like these.

The captain of the guard took Seraiah the chief priest, Zephaniah the second priest, and the three keepers of the threshold;

and out of the city he took an officer who was set over the men of war; and five men of those who saw the king’s face, who were found in the city; and the scribe, the captain of the army, who mustered the people of the land, and sixty men of the people of the land who were found in the city.

Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard took them, and brought them to the king of Babylon to Riblah.

The king of Babylon attacked them and put them to death at Riblah in the land of Hamath. So Judah was carried away captive out of his land.

As for the people who were left in the land of Judah whom Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon had left, even over them he made Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, governor.

Now when all the captains of the forces, they and their men, heard that the king of Babylon had made Gedaliah governor, they came to Gedaliah to Mizpah, even Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, Johanan the son of Kareah, Seraiah the son of Tanhumeth the Netophathite, and Jaazaniah the son of the Maacathite, they and their men.

Gedaliah swore to them and to their men, and said to them, “Don’t be afraid because of the servants of the Chaldeans. Dwell in the land and serve the king of Babylon, and it will be well with you.”

But in the seventh month, Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, the son of Elishama, of the royal offspring came, and ten men with him, and struck Gedaliah so that he died, with the Jews and the Chaldeans that were with him at Mizpah.

All the people, both small and great, and the captains of the forces arose and came to Egypt; for they were afraid of the Chaldeans.

In the thirty-seventh year of the captivity of Jehoiachin king of Judah, in the twelfth month, on the twenty-seventh day of the month, Evilmerodach king of Babylon, in the year that he began to reign, released Jehoiachin king of Judah out of prison,

and he spoke kindly to him and set his throne above the throne of the kings who were with him in Babylon,
- 29
and changed his prison garments. Jehoiachin ate bread before him continually all the days of his life;
- 30
and for his allowance, there was a continual allowance given him from the king, every day a portion, all the days of his life.

No nono ano do seu reinado, no décimo mês, no décimo dia do mês, Nabucodonosor, rei da Babilônia, marchou contra Jerusalém com todo o seu exército. Ele acampou contra ela e construíram fortificações de cerco ao seu redor.

Assim, a cidade ficou sitiada até o décimo primeiro ano do rei Zedequias.

No nono dia do quarto mês, a fome era tão severa na cidade que não havia pão para o povo da terra.

Então, uma brecha foi feita na cidade, e todos os homens de guerra fugiram de noite pelo caminho da porta entre os dois muros, que ficava perto do jardim do rei (ora, os caldeus cercavam a cidade); e o rei fugiu pelo caminho de Arabá.

Mas o exército dos caldeus perseguiu o rei e o alcançou nas planícies de Jericó; e todo o seu exército se dispersou, abandonando-o.

Então eles capturaram o rei e o levaram ao rei da Babilônia, em Ribla; e pronunciaram a sentença contra ele.
- 7
Mataram os filhos de Zedequias diante dos seus olhos, depois vazaram os olhos de Zedequias, o prenderam com correntes e o levaram para a Babilônia.
- 8
No quinto mês, no sétimo dia do mês, que era o décimo nono ano do rei Nabucodonosor, rei da Babilônia, Nebuzaradã, o capitão da guarda, servo do rei da Babilônia, veio a Jerusalém.
- 9
Ele incendiou a casa do SENHOR, a casa do rei e todas as casas de Jerusalém. Ele queimou com fogo todas as casas importantes.
- 10
Todo o exército dos caldeus, que estava com o capitão da guarda, derrubou os muros ao redor de Jerusalém.
- 11
Nebuzaradã, o capitão da guarda, levou cativo o restante do povo que havia ficado na cidade e aqueles que haviam desertado para o rei da Babilônia — todo o resto da multidão.
- 12
Mas o capitão da guarda deixou alguns dos mais pobres da terra para trabalharem nas vinhas e nos campos.
- 13
Os caldeus despedaçaram as colunas de bronze que estavam na casa do SENHOR, e os suportes e o mar de bronze que estavam na casa do SENHOR, e levaram as peças de bronze para a Babilônia.
- 14
Eles levaram as panelas, as pás, os apagadores, as colheres e todos os utensílios de bronze com os quais ministravam.
- 15
O capitão da guarda levou os incensários, as bacias, o que era de ouro, por ser de ouro, e o que era de prata, por ser de prata.
- 16
As duas colunas, o único mar e os suportes, que Salomão havia feito para a casa do SENHOR; o bronze de todos esses utensílios não pôde ser pesado.

A altura de uma coluna era de dezoito côvados, e havia sobre ela um capitel de bronze. A altura do capitel era de três côvados, com uma rede e romãs ao redor do capitel, tudo de bronze; e a segunda coluna, com a sua rede, era semelhante a esta.

O capitão da guarda levou Seraías, o sumo sacerdote, Sofonias, o segundo sacerdote, e os três guardas da porta;
- 19
e da cidade ele levou um oficial que comandava os homens de guerra; e cinco homens dos que viam a face do rei, que foram encontrados na cidade; e o escriba, o capitão do exército, que alistava o povo da terra, e sessenta homens do povo da terra que foram encontrados na cidade.

Nebuzaradã, o capitão da guarda, os prendeu e os levou ao rei da Babilônia, em Ribla.
- 21
O rei da Babilônia os atacou e os matou em Ribla, na terra de Hamate. Assim, Judá foi levado cativo para fora da sua terra.
- 22
Quanto ao povo que ficou na terra de Judá, que Nabucodonosor, rei da Babilônia, havia deixado, sobre eles nomeou como governador a Gedalias, filho de Aicão, filho de Safã.

Quando todos os capitães das tropas, eles e os seus homens, ouviram que o rei da Babilônia havia nomeado Gedalias como governador, eles vieram a Gedalias, em Mispá, a saber: Ismael, filho de Netanias, Joanã, filho de Careá, Seraías, filho de Tanumete, o netofatita, e Jezanias, filho do maacatita, eles e os seus homens.

Gedalias jurou a eles e aos seus homens, e lhes disse: “Não tenham medo dos servos dos caldeus. Habitem na terra e sirvam ao rei da Babilônia, e tudo irá bem com vocês.”
- 25
Mas no sétimo mês, Ismael, filho de Netanias, filho de Elisama, de descendência real, veio com dez homens e atacou Gedalias, de modo que ele morreu, junto com os judeus e os caldeus que estavam com ele em Mispá.

Todo o povo, desde o menor até o maior, e os capitães das tropas se levantaram e foram para o Egito; pois estavam com medo dos caldeus.
- 27
No trigésimo sétimo ano do cativeiro de Joaquim, rei de Judá, no décimo segundo mês, no vigésimo sétimo dia do mês, Evil-Merodaque, rei da Babilônia, no ano em que começou a reinar, libertou Joaquim, rei de Judá, da prisão;
- 28
e falou amavelmente com ele, e colocou o seu trono acima do trono dos reis que estavam com ele na Babilônia,
- 29
e mudou as suas roupas de prisão. Joaquim comeu pão diante dele continuamente todos os dias da sua vida;
- 30
e quanto à sua provisão, uma provisão contínua lhe foi dada pelo rei, uma porção para cada dia, todos os dias da sua vida.
