2 Thessalonians 2
This is the letter's correction. Someone has unsettled the church with a claim, supposedly backed by spirit, word, or a forged letter from Paul, that the day of Christ has already come. The writers tell them not to be quickly shaken. The answer is a sequence: first a rebellion, then the unveiling of the man of sin who sits in God's temple claiming to be God. Watch the figure of the restrainer who holds him back until taken out of the way, and how the lawless one is undone simply by the breath of the Lord's mouth.

Now, brothers, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to him, we ask you

not to be quickly shaken in your mind or troubled, either by spirit or by word or by letter as if from us, saying that the day of Christ has already come.

Let no one deceive you in any way. For it will not be unless the rebellion comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of destruction.

He opposes and exalts himself against all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, setting himself up as God.

Don’t you remember that when I was still with you, I told you these things?

Now you know what is restraining him, to the end that he may be revealed in his own season.

For the mystery of lawlessness already works. Only there is one who restrains now, until he is taken out of the way.

Then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will kill with the breath of his mouth and destroy by the manifestation of his coming;

even he whose coming is according to the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,
- 10
and with all deception of wickedness for those who are being lost, because they didn’t receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved.

Because of this, God sends them a powerful delusion, that they should believe a lie,
- 12
that they all might be judged who didn’t believe the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

But we are bound to always give thanks to God for you, brothers loved by the Lord, because God chose you from the beginning for salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief in the truth,

to which he called you through our Good News, for the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

So then, brothers, stand firm and hold the traditions which you were taught by us, whether by word or by letter.

Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God our Father, who loved us and gave us eternal comfort and good hope through grace,

comfort your hearts and establish you in every good work and word.

EMPERO os rogamos, hermanos, cuanto á la venida de nuestro Señor Jesucristo, y nuestro recogimiento á él,

Que no os mováis fácilmente de vuestro sentimiento, ni os conturbéis ni por espíritu, ni por palabra, ni por carta como nuestra, como que el día del Señor esté cerca.

No os engañe nadie en ninguna manera; porque no vendrá sin que venga antes la apostasía, y se manifieste el hombre de pecado, el hijo de perdición,

Oponiéndose, y levantándose contra todo lo que se llama Dios, ó que se adora; tanto que se asiente en el templo de Dios como Dios, haciéndose parecer Dios.

¿No os acordáis que cuando estaba todavía con vosotros, os decía esto?

Y ahora vosotros sabéis lo que impide, para que á su tiempo se manifieste.

Porque ya está obrando el misterio de iniquidad: solamente espera hasta que sea quitado de en medio el que ahora impide;

Y entonces será manifestado aquel inicuo, al cual el Señor matará con el espíritu de su boca, y destruirá con el resplandor de su venida;

A aquel inicuo , cuyo advenimiento es según operación de Satanás, con grande potencia, y señales, y milagros mentirosos,
- 10
Y con todo engaño de iniquidad en los que perecen; por cuanto no recibieron el amor de la verdad para ser salvos.

Por tanto, pues, les envía Dios operación de error, para que crean á la mentira;
- 12
Para que sean condenados todos los que no creyeron á la verdad, antes consintieron á la iniquidad.

Mas nosotros debemos dar siempre gracias á Dios por vosotros, hermanos amados del Señor, de que Dios os haya escogido desde el principio para salud, por la santificación del Espíritu y fe de la verdad:

A lo cual os llamó por nuestro evangelio, para alcanzar la gloria de nuestro Señor Jesucristo.

Así que, hermanos, estad firmes, y retened la doctrina que habéis aprendido, sea por palabra, ó por carta nuestra.

Y el mismo Señor nuestro Jesucristo, y Dios y Padre nuestro, el cual nos amó, y nos dió consolación eterna, y buena esperanza por gracia,

Consuele vuestros corazones, y os confirme en toda buena palabra y obra.
A timetable against panic
Verses 3-8 work as a checklist meant to calm. If certain events have not yet happened, the day cannot already have come. Paul even reminds them in verse 5 that he taught this in person, anchoring the argument in shared memory rather than fresh revelation.
The chapter then pivots in verse 13 back to thanksgiving and the command to stand firm and hold the traditions taught "whether by word or by letter" — a pointed contrast to the forged letter that started the trouble.
