After these things Paul departed from Athens and came to Corinth.

He found a certain Jew named Aquila, a man of Pontus by race, who had recently come from Italy with his wife Priscilla, because Claudius had commanded all the Jews to depart from Rome. He came to them,

and because he practiced the same trade, he lived with them and worked, for by trade they were tent makers.
- 4
He reasoned in the synagogue every Sabbath and persuaded Jews and Greeks.
- 5
When Silas and Timothy came down from Macedonia, Paul was compelled by the Spirit, testifying to the Jews that Jesus was the Christ.

When they opposed him and blasphemed, he shook out his clothing and said to them, “Your blood be on your own heads! I am clean. From now on, I will go to the Gentiles!”

He departed there and went into the house of a certain man named Justus, one who worshiped God, whose house was next door to the synagogue.

Crispus, the ruler of the synagogue, believed in the Lord with all his house. Many of the Corinthians, when they heard, believed and were baptized.

The Lord said to Paul in the night by a vision, “Don’t be afraid, but speak and don’t be silent;
- 10
for I am with you, and no one will attack you to harm you, for I have many people in this city.”

He lived there a year and six months, teaching the word of God among them.
- 12
But when Gallio was proconsul of Achaia, the Jews with one accord rose up against Paul and brought him before the judgment seat,
- 13
saying, “This man persuades men to worship God contrary to the law.”
- 14
But when Paul was about to open his mouth, Gallio said to the Jews, “If indeed it were a matter of wrong or of wicked crime, you Jews, it would be reasonable that I should bear with you;
- 15
but if they are questions about words and names and your own law, look to it yourselves. For I don’t want to be a judge of these matters.”
- 16
So he drove them from the judgment seat.
- 17
Then all the Greeks seized Sosthenes, the ruler of the synagogue, and beat him before the judgment seat. Gallio didn’t care about any of these things.

Paul, having stayed after this many more days, took his leave of the brothers, and sailed from there for Syria, together with Priscilla and Aquila. He shaved his head in Cenchreae, for he had a vow.

He came to Ephesus, and he left them there; but he himself entered into the synagogue and reasoned with the Jews.

When they asked him to stay with them a longer time, he declined;
- 21
but taking his leave of them, he said, “I must by all means keep this coming feast in Jerusalem, but I will return again to you if God wills.” Then he set sail from Ephesus.

When he had landed at Caesarea, he went up and greeted the assembly, and went down to Antioch.

Having spent some time there, he departed and went through the region of Galatia and Phrygia, in order, establishing all the disciples.

Now a certain Jew named Apollos, an Alexandrian by race, an eloquent man, came to Ephesus. He was mighty in the Scriptures.

This man had been instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in spirit, he spoke and taught accurately the things concerning Jesus, although he knew only the baptism of John.

He began to speak boldly in the synagogue. But when Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they took him aside, and explained to him the way of God more accurately.

When he had determined to pass over into Achaia, the brothers encouraged him; and wrote to the disciples to receive him. When he had come, he greatly helped those who had believed through grace;
- 28
for he powerfully refuted the Jews, publicly showing by the Scriptures that Jesus was the Christ.

Depois destas coisas, Paulo partiu de Atenas e veio para Corinto.

Ele encontrou um certo judeu chamado Aquila, um homem deontus por raça, que tinha vindo recentemente da Itália com sua esposa Priscilla, porque Cláudio tinha ordenado que todos os judeus partissem de Roma. Ele veio até eles,

e porque praticava o mesmo ofício, ele viveu com eles e trabalhou, pois por ofício eles eram fabricantes de tendas.

Ele raciocinava na sinagoga todos os sábados e convencia os judeus e gregos.

Quando Silas e Timóteo desceram da Macedônia, Paulo foi compelido pelo Espírito, testemunhando aos judeus que Jesus era o Cristo.

Quando eles se opuseram a ele e blasfemaram, ele sacudiu suas roupas e lhes disse: “Teu sangue esteja sobre tuas próprias cabeças! Eu estou limpo”. De agora em diante, irei para os gentios”!

Ele partiu para lá e entrou na casa de um certo homem chamado Justus, um que adorava a Deus, cuja casa era ao lado da sinagoga.

Crispus, o regente da sinagoga, acreditava no Senhor com toda a sua casa. Muitos dos coríntios, quando ouviram, acreditaram e foram batizados.

O Senhor disse a Paulo na noite por uma visão: “Não tenha medo, mas fale e não se cale;
- 10
pois eu estou com você, e ninguém o atacará para prejudicá-lo, pois eu tenho muitas pessoas nesta cidade”.

Ele viveu lá um ano e seis meses, ensinando a palavra de Deus entre eles.
- 12
Mas quando Gálio era procônsul da Acaia, os judeus com um acordo se levantaram contra Paulo e o levaram diante do tribunal,
- 13
dizendo: “Este homem persuade os homens a adorarem a Deus contrariamente à lei”.
- 14
Mas quando Paulo estava prestes a abrir sua boca, Gálio disse aos judeus: “Se de fato fosse uma questão de erro ou de crime perverso, vocês judeus, seria razoável que eu suportasse vocês;
- 15
mas se são perguntas sobre palavras e nomes e sua própria lei, olhem vocês mesmos para ela. Pois eu não quero ser um juiz destas questões”.

Então ele os tirou da cadeira de julgamento.
- 17
Então todos os gregos apreenderam Sósstenes, o regente da sinagoga, e o espancaram diante do assento de julgamento. Gálio não se importou com nenhuma dessas coisas.

Paul, tendo ficado muitos dias depois disso, despediu-se dos irmãos e partiu de lá para a Síria, junto com Priscilla e Aquila. Rapou a cabeça em Cenchreae, pois ele tinha um voto.

Ele chegou a Éfeso e os deixou lá; mas ele mesmo entrou na sinagoga e raciocinou com os judeus.
- 20
Quando lhe pediram que ficasse mais tempo com eles, ele recusou;
- 21
mas, despedindo-se deles, disse: “Devo por todos os meios manter esta festa vindoura em Jerusalém, mas voltarei novamente para vocês se Deus quiser”. Então ele zarpou de Éfeso.

Quando chegou em Cesaréia, ele subiu e cumprimentou a assembléia, e desceu para Antioquia.
- 23
Tendo passado algum tempo lá, ele partiu e passou pela região da Galatia e da Frígia, em ordem, estabelecendo todos os discípulos.
- 24
Agora um certo judeu chamado Apolo, um alexandrino por raça, um homem eloqüente, veio a Éfeso. Ele era poderoso nas Escrituras.

Este homem havia sido instruído no caminho do Senhor; e sendo fervoroso no espírito, ele falava e ensinava com precisão as coisas concernentes a Jesus, embora conhecesse apenas o batismo de João.

Ele começou a falar corajosamente na sinagoga. Mas quando Priscilla e Áquila o ouviram, o levaram de lado e lhe explicaram o caminho de Deus com mais precisão.

Quando ele decidiu passar para Achaia, os irmãos o encorajaram; e escreveram aos discípulos para recebê-lo. Quando ele veio, ele ajudou muito aqueles que haviam acreditado pela graça;
- 28
pois ele refutou poderosamente os judeus, mostrando publicamente pelas Escrituras que Jesus era o Cristo.
