Woe to those who are at ease in Zion, and to those who are secure on the mountain of Samaria, the notable men of the chief of the nations, to whom the house of Israel come!

Go to Calneh, and see. From there go to Hamath the great. Then go down to Gath of the Philistines. Are they better than these kingdoms? Is their border greater than your border?

Alas for you who put far away the evil day, and cause the seat of violence to come near,
- 4
who lie on beds of ivory, and stretch themselves on their couches, and eat the lambs out of the flock, and the calves out of the middle of the stall,
- 5
who strum on the strings of a harp, who invent for themselves instruments of music, like David;
- 6
who drink wine in bowls, and anoint themselves with the best oils, but they are not grieved for the affliction of Joseph.

Therefore they will now go captive with the first who go captive. The feasting and lounging will end.

“The Lord GOD has sworn by himself,” says the LORD, the God of Armies: “I abhor the pride of Jacob, and detest his fortresses. Therefore I will deliver up the city with all that is in it.

It will happen that if ten men remain in one house, they will die.

“When a man’s relative carries him, even he who burns him, to bring bodies out of the house, and asks him who is in the innermost parts of the house, ‘Is there yet any with you?’ And he says, ‘No;’ then he will say, ‘Hush! Indeed we must not mention the LORD’s name.’

“For, behold, the LORD commands, and the great house will be smashed to pieces, and the little house into bits.

Do horses run on the rocky crags? Does one plow there with oxen? But you have turned justice into poison, and the fruit of righteousness into bitterness,

you who rejoice in a thing of nothing, who say, ‘Haven’t we taken for ourselves horns by our own strength?’

For, behold, I will raise up against you a nation, house of Israel,” says the LORD, the God of Armies; “and they will afflict you from the entrance of Hamath to the brook of the Arabah.”

Ai dos que vivem tranquilos em Sião, e dos que se sentem seguros no monte de Samaria, os homens notáveis da principal das nações, a quem a casa de Israel recorre!

Vão a Calné, e vejam. De lá, vão à grande Hamate. Depois desçam a Gate dos filisteus. São eles melhores do que estes reinos? O território deles é maior do que o território de vocês?

Ai de vocês que afastam o dia mau, e fazem chegar perto o trono da violência,

que se deitam em camas de marfim, e se espreguiçam em seus leitos, e comem os cordeiros do rebanho, e os bezerros do meio do estábulo,
- 5
que dedilham as cordas da harpa, que inventam para si mesmos instrumentos musicais, como Davi;
- 6
que bebem vinho em bacias, e se ungem com os melhores óleos, mas não se entristecem com a aflição de José.

Portanto, agora eles irão cativos com os primeiros que forem levados cativos. O banquete e o ócio acabarão.

“O Senhor DEUS jurou por si mesmo”, diz o SENHOR, o Deus dos Exércitos: “Eu abomino o orgulho de Jacó, e detesto as suas fortalezas. Portanto, entregarei a cidade com tudo o que nela há.”

Acontecerá que, se restarem dez homens em uma única casa, eles morrerão.

“Quando o parente de um homem o carregar, aquele mesmo que o queima, para tirar os corpos de dentro da casa, e perguntar àquele que está no interior da casa: 'Ainda há alguém com você?' E ele disser: 'Não'; então ele dirá: 'Cale-se! Pois não devemos mencionar o nome do SENHOR.'

“Pois, eis que o SENHOR ordena, e a casa grande será despedaçada, e a casa pequena, em pedaços.

Acaso correm os cavalos sobre os rochedos? Ou se ara ali com bois? Mas vocês transformaram a justiça em veneno, e o fruto da retidão em amargura,

vocês que se alegram com uma coisa de nada, que dizem: 'Não tomamos para nós chifres pela nossa própria força?'
- 14
Pois, eis que levantarei contra vocês uma nação, ó casa de Israel”, diz o SENHOR, o Deus dos Exércitos; “e eles os afligirão desde a entrada de Hamate até o ribeiro da Arabá.”
