Guard your steps when you go to God’s house; for to draw near to listen is better than to give the sacrifice of fools, for they don’t know that they do evil.

Don’t be rash with your mouth, and don’t let your heart be hasty to utter anything before God; for God is in heaven, and you on earth. Therefore let your words be few.

For as a dream comes with a multitude of cares, so a fool’s speech with a multitude of words.

When you vow a vow to God, don’t defer to pay it; for he has no pleasure in fools. Pay that which you vow.

It is better that you should not vow, than that you should vow and not pay.
- 6
Don’t allow your mouth to lead you into sin. Don’t protest before the messenger that this was a mistake. Why should God be angry at your voice, and destroy the work of your hands?

For in the multitude of dreams there are vanities, as well as in many words; but you must fear God.
- 8
If you see the oppression of the poor, and the violent taking away of justice and righteousness in a district, don’t marvel at the matter, for one official is eyed by a higher one, and there are officials over them.

Moreover the profit of the earth is for all. The king profits from the field.

He who loves silver shall not be satisfied with silver, nor he who loves abundance, with increase. This also is vanity.

When goods increase, those who eat them are increased; and what advantage is there to its owner, except to feast on them with his eyes?
- 12
The sleep of a laboring man is sweet, whether he eats little or much; but the abundance of the rich will not allow him to sleep.

There is a grievous evil which I have seen under the sun: wealth kept by its owner to his harm.
- 14
Those riches perish by misfortune, and if he has fathered a son, there is nothing in his hand.
- 15
As he came out of his mother’s womb, naked shall he go again as he came, and shall take nothing for his labor, which he may carry away in his hand.

This also is a grievous evil, that in all points as he came, so shall he go. And what profit does he have who labors for the wind?

All his days he also eats in darkness, he is frustrated, and has sickness and wrath.

Behold, that which I have seen to be good and proper is for one to eat and to drink, and to enjoy good in all his labor, in which he labors under the sun, all the days of his life which God has given him; for this is his portion.
- 19
Every man also to whom God has given riches and wealth, and has given him power to eat of it, and to take his portion, and to rejoice in his labor—this is the gift of God.

For he shall not often reflect on the days of his life, because God occupies him with the joy of his heart.

Guarde os seus passos quando você for à casa de Deus; pois aproximar-se para ouvir é melhor do que oferecer o sacrifício dos tolos, pois eles não sabem que fazem o mal.

Não seja precipitado com a sua boca, e não deixe o seu coração se apressar em proferir qualquer coisa diante de Deus; pois Deus está nos céus, e você na terra. Portanto, que as suas palavras sejam poucas.

Pois assim como o sonho vem com a multidão de preocupações, assim a fala do tolo com a multidão de palavras.

Quando você fizer um voto a Deus, não demore a cumpri-lo; pois ele não tem prazer nos tolos. Cumpra o que você votou.

É melhor que você não faça um voto, do que fazer um voto e não cumprir.

Não permita que a sua boca o leve ao pecado. Não declare diante do mensageiro que isso foi um erro. Por que Deus se iraria com a sua voz, e destruiria a obra das suas mãos?

Pois na multidão de sonhos há vaidades, assim como em muitas palavras; mas você deve temer a Deus.

Se você vir a opressão do pobre, e a violenta supressão da justiça e da retidão em um distrito, não se espante com isso, pois um oficial é vigiado por um superior, e há oficiais ainda mais altos sobre eles.

Além disso, o proveito da terra é para todos. O rei tira proveito do campo.
- 10
Aquele que ama a prata não se satisfará com a prata, nem aquele que ama a abundância, com o seu ganho. Isso também é vaidade.

Quando os bens aumentam, os que os consomem também aumentam; e que vantagem há para o seu dono, exceto contemplá-los com os seus olhos?
- 12
O sono do trabalhador é doce, quer ele coma pouco ou muito; mas a abundância do rico não lhe permite dormir.
- 13
Há um mal terrível que vi debaixo do sol: riquezas guardadas pelo seu dono para o seu próprio dano.
- 14
Essas riquezas se perdem por infortúnio, e se ele gerou um filho, não lhe sobra nada nas mãos.
- 15
Assim como ele saiu do ventre de sua mãe, nu ele voltará como veio, e não levará nada pelo seu trabalho, que ele possa carregar em sua mão.

Isso também é um mal terrível: exatamente como veio, assim ele irá. E que proveito tem aquele que trabalha para o vento?
- 17
Todos os seus dias ele também come nas trevas, ele se frustra, e tem doença e ira.
- 18
Eis o que eu vi ser bom e apropriado: que a pessoa coma e beba, e desfrute do bem em todo o seu trabalho, no qual ela trabalha debaixo do sol, todos os dias da sua vida que Deus lhe deu; pois esta é a sua porção.
- 19
Também a todo homem a quem Deus deu riquezas e bens, e lhe deu poder para comer disso, para tomar a sua porção e para se alegrar no seu trabalho — este é o dom de Deus.
- 20
Pois ele não refletirá muito sobre os dias da sua vida, porque Deus o ocupa com a alegria do seu coração.
