Then he cried in my ears with a loud voice, saying, “Cause those who are in charge of the city to draw near, each man with his destroying weapon in his hand.”

Behold, six men came from the way of the upper gate, which lies toward the north, every man with his slaughter weapon in his hand. One man in the middle of them was clothed in linen, with a writer’s inkhorn by his side. They went in, and stood beside the bronze altar.

The glory of the God of Israel went up from the cherub, whereupon it was, to the threshold of the house; and he called to the man clothed in linen, who had the writer’s inkhorn by his side.

The LORD said to him, “Go through the middle of the city, through the middle of Jerusalem, and set a mark on the foreheads of the men that sigh and that cry over all the abominations that are done within it.”

To the others he said in my hearing, “Go through the city after him, and strike. Don’t let your eye spare, neither have pity.
- 6
Kill utterly the old man, the young man, the virgin, little children and women; but don’t come near any man on whom is the mark. Begin at my sanctuary.” Then they began at the old men who were before the house.

He said to them, “Defile the house, and fill the courts with the slain. Go out!” They went out, and struck in the city.

While they were killing, and I was left, I fell on my face, and cried, and said, “Ah Lord GOD! Will you destroy all the residue of Israel in your pouring out of your wrath on Jerusalem?”

Then he said to me, “The iniquity of the house of Israel and Judah is exceedingly great, and the land is full of blood, and the city full of perversion; for they say, ‘The LORD has forsaken the land, and the LORD doesn’t see.’

As for me also, my eye won’t spare, neither will I have pity, but I will bring their way on their head.”

Behold, the man clothed in linen, who had the inkhorn by his side, reported the matter, saying, “I have done as you have commanded me.”

Então ele gritou aos meus ouvidos com grande voz, dizendo: “Façam com que os encarregados da cidade se aproximem, cada homem com a sua arma de destruição na mão.”

Eis que seis homens vieram do caminho da porta superior, que fica para o norte, cada homem com a sua arma de extermínio na mão. Um homem no meio deles estava vestido de linho, com um tinteiro de escrivão ao seu lado. Eles entraram e ficaram ao lado do altar de bronze.

A glória do Deus de Israel subiu do querubim, sobre o qual estava, para a soleira do templo; e ele chamou o homem vestido de linho, que tinha o tinteiro de escrivão ao seu lado.

O SENHOR disse a ele: “Passe pelo meio da cidade, pelo meio de Jerusalém, e coloque uma marca na testa dos homens que suspiram e que choram por causa de todas as abominações que se cometem no meio dela.”

Aos outros ele disse, de modo que eu ouvisse: “Passem pela cidade atrás dele, e ataquem. Não deixem que os seus olhos poupem ninguém, nem tenham piedade.

Matem totalmente os velhos, os jovens, as virgens, as crianças e as mulheres; mas não se aproximem de ninguém que tenha a marca. Comecem pelo meu santuário.” Então eles começaram pelos anciãos que estavam diante do templo.

Ele lhes disse: “Profanem o templo, e encham os pátios com os mortos. Saiam!” Eles saíram, e feriram as pessoas na cidade.

Enquanto eles matavam, e eu fiquei sozinho, caí com o rosto em terra, clamei e disse: “Ah, Senhor DEUS! O Senhor destruirá todo o remanescente de Israel ao derramar a sua ira sobre Jerusalém?”

Então ele me disse: “A iniquidade da casa de Israel e de Judá é extremamente grande, a terra está cheia de sangue, e a cidade cheia de perversão; pois eles dizem: ‘O SENHOR abandonou a terra, e o SENHOR não vê.’

Quanto a mim, os meus olhos não pouparão ninguém, nem terei piedade, mas farei recair a conduta deles sobre a sua própria cabeça.”

Eis que o homem vestido de linho, que tinha o tinteiro ao seu lado, trouxe o relatório, dizendo: “Fiz conforme o Senhor me ordenou.”
