Therefore leaving the teaching of the first principles of Christ, let’s press on to perfection—not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works, of faith toward God,
- 2
of the teaching of baptisms, of laying on of hands, of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.

This will we do, if God permits.
- 4
For concerning those who were once enlightened and tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Spirit,
- 5
and tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come,
- 6
and then fell away, it is impossible to renew them again to repentance; seeing they crucify the Son of God for themselves again, and put him to open shame.
- 7
For the land which has drunk the rain that comes often on it and produces a crop suitable for them for whose sake it is also tilled, receives blessing from God;
- 8
but if it bears thorns and thistles, it is rejected and near being cursed, whose end is to be burned.
- 9
But, beloved, we are persuaded of better things for you, and things that accompany salvation, even though we speak like this.
- 10
For God is not unrighteous, so as to forget your work and the labor of love which you showed toward his name, in that you served the saints, and still do serve them.

We desire that each one of you may show the same diligence to the fullness of hope even to the end,
- 12
that you won’t be sluggish, but imitators of those who through faith and perseverance inherited the promises.
- 13
For when God made a promise to Abraham, since he could swear by no one greater, he swore by himself,
- 14
saying, “Surely blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply you.”
- 15
Thus, having patiently endured, he obtained the promise.
- 16
For men indeed swear by a greater one, and in every dispute of theirs the oath is final for confirmation.

In this way God, being determined to show more abundantly to the heirs of the promise the immutability of his counsel, interposed with an oath,
- 18
that by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we may have a strong encouragement, who have fled for refuge to take hold of the hope set before us.

This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, a hope both sure and steadfast and entering into that which is within the veil,
- 20
where as a forerunner Jesus entered for us, having become a high priest forever after the order of Melchizedek.

Portanto, deixando o ensino dos primeiros princípios de Cristo, avancemos para a perfeição — não lançando novamente o fundamento do arrependimento de obras mortas, da fé em Deus,

do ensino sobre batismos, da imposição de mãos, da ressurreição dos mortos e do juízo eterno.

E isso faremos, se Deus permitir.
- 4
Pois, quanto àqueles que uma vez foram iluminados, provaram o dom celestial e se tornaram participantes do Espírito Santo,
- 5
e provaram a boa palavra de Deus e os poderes da era que há de vir,
- 6
e depois caíram, é impossível renová-los novamente para o arrependimento; visto que crucificam de novo para si mesmos o Filho de Deus, e o expõem à vergonha pública.
- 7
Pois a terra que bebe a chuva que frequentemente cai sobre ela e produz uma colheita útil para aqueles por quem também é cultivada, recebe a bênção de Deus;
- 8
mas se produz espinhos e abrolhos, é rejeitada e está perto de ser amaldiçoada; e o seu fim é ser queimada.
- 9
Mas, amados, estamos persuadidos de coisas melhores a respeito de vocês, e de coisas que acompanham a salvação, embora falemos dessa maneira.
- 10
Pois Deus não é injusto para se esquecer da obra de vocês e do trabalho de amor que demonstraram para com o seu nome, visto que serviram aos santos, e ainda os servem.
- 11
Desejamos que cada um de vocês mostre a mesma diligência para com a plenitude da esperança até o fim,
- 12
para que não se tornem preguiçosos, mas imitadores daqueles que, pela fé e pela perseverança, herdaram as promessas.
- 13
Pois quando Deus fez a promessa a Abraão, visto que não podia jurar por ninguém maior, jurou por si mesmo,
- 14
dizendo: “Certamente, abençoando, eu o abençoarei, e multiplicando, eu o multiplicarei.”
- 15
Assim, tendo esperado com paciência, ele alcançou a promessa.
- 16
Pois os homens, de fato, juram por alguém maior, e em toda disputa entre eles, o juramento é a confirmação final.
- 17
Desta forma Deus, estando determinado a mostrar mais abundantemente aos herdeiros da promessa a imutabilidade do seu propósito, interveio com um juramento,
- 18
para que, por meio de duas coisas imutáveis, nas quais é impossível que Deus minta, tenhamos um forte encorajamento, nós que fugimos em busca de refúgio para tomar posse da esperança que nos é proposta.

Temos esta esperança como uma âncora da alma, uma esperança segura e firme, e que penetra até o interior do véu,
- 20
onde Jesus, como precursor, entrou por nós, tendo se tornado sumo sacerdote para sempre, segundo a ordem de Melquisedeque.
