For the LORD will have compassion on Jacob, and will yet choose Israel, and set them in their own land. The foreigner will join himself with them, and they will unite with the house of Jacob.
- 2
The peoples will take them, and bring them to their place. The house of Israel will possess them in the LORD’s land for servants and for handmaids. They will take as captives those whose captives they were; and they shall rule over their oppressors.

It will happen in the day that the LORD will give you rest from your sorrow, from your trouble, and from the hard service in which you were made to serve,
- 4
that you will take up this parable against the king of Babylon, and say, “How the oppressor has ceased! The golden city has ceased!”

The LORD has broken the staff of the wicked, the scepter of the rulers,
- 6
who struck the peoples in wrath with a continual stroke, who ruled the nations in anger, with a persecution that no one restrained.

The whole earth is at rest, and is quiet. They break out in song.

Yes, the cypress trees rejoice with you, with the cedars of Lebanon, saying, “Since you are humbled, no lumberjack has come up against us.”

Sheol from beneath has moved for you to meet you at your coming. It stirs up the departed spirits for you, even all the rulers of the earth. It has raised up from their thrones all the kings of the nations.

They all will answer and ask you, “Have you also become as weak as we are? Have you become like us?”
- 11
Your pomp is brought down to Sheol, with the sound of your stringed instruments. Maggots are spread out under you, and worms cover you.

How you have fallen from heaven, shining one, son of the dawn! How you are cut down to the ground, who laid the nations low!

You said in your heart, “I will ascend into heaven! I will exalt my throne above the stars of God! I will sit on the mountain of assembly, in the far north!

I will ascend above the heights of the clouds! I will make myself like the Most High!”
- 15
Yet you shall be brought down to Sheol, to the depths of the pit.
- 16
Those who see you will stare at you. They will ponder you, saying, “Is this the man who made the earth to tremble, who shook kingdoms,
- 17
who made the world like a wilderness, and overthrew its cities, who didn’t release his prisoners to their home?”

All the kings of the nations sleep in glory, everyone in his own house.
- 19
But you are cast away from your tomb like an abominable branch, clothed with the slain who are thrust through with the sword, who go down to the stones of the pit; like a dead body trodden under foot.

You will not join them in burial, because you have destroyed your land. You have killed your people. The offspring of evildoers will not be named forever.
- 21
Prepare for slaughter of his children because of the iniquity of their fathers, that they not rise up and possess the earth, and fill the surface of the world with cities.

“I will rise up against them,” says the LORD of Armies, “and cut off from Babylon name and remnant, and son and son’s son,” says the LORD.
- 23
“I will also make it a possession for the porcupine, and pools of water. I will sweep it with the broom of destruction,” says the LORD of Armies.
- 24
The LORD of Armies has sworn, saying, “Surely, as I have thought, so shall it happen; and as I have purposed, so shall it stand:
- 25
that I will break the Assyrian in my land, and tread him under foot on my mountains. Then his yoke will leave them, and his burden leave their shoulders.

This is the plan that is determined for the whole earth. This is the hand that is stretched out over all the nations.
- 27
For the LORD of Armies has planned, and who can stop it? His hand is stretched out, and who can turn it back?”

This burden was in the year that King Ahaz died.
- 29
Don’t rejoice, O Philistia, all of you, because the rod that struck you is broken; for out of the serpent’s root an adder will emerge, and his fruit will be a fiery flying serpent.

The firstborn of the poor will eat, and the needy will lie down in safety; and I will kill your root with famine, and your remnant will be killed.

Howl, gate! Cry, city! You are melted away, Philistia, all of you; for smoke comes out of the north, and there is no straggler in his ranks.

What will they answer the messengers of the nation? That the LORD has founded Zion, and in her the afflicted of his people will take refuge.

Pois o SENHOR terá compaixão de Jacó, e ainda escolherá Israel, e os estabelecerá em sua própria terra. O estrangeiro se juntará a eles, e eles se unirão à casa de Jacó.

Os povos os tomarão e os levarão ao seu lugar. A casa de Israel os possuirá na terra do SENHOR como servos e servas. Eles farão cativos aqueles de quem eram cativos; e dominarão sobre os seus opressores.

Acontecerá no dia em que o SENHOR lhe der descanso do seu sofrimento, da sua angústia e da dura escravidão na qual você foi obrigado a servir,

que você proferirá esta parábola contra o rei da Babilônia, e dirá: “Como o opressor chegou ao fim! A cidade de ouro chegou ao fim!”

O SENHOR quebrou o cajado dos ímpios, o cetro dos governantes,
- 6
que feriam os povos com ira, com golpes contínuos, que dominavam as nações com furor, com uma perseguição que ninguém podia conter.
- 7
Toda a terra descansa e está em paz. Eles rompem em cânticos.
- 8
Sim, os ciprestes se alegram por sua causa, com os cedros do Líbano, dizendo: “Desde que você foi abatido, nenhum lenhador subiu contra nós.”

O Sheol lá embaixo se agita por você, para encontrá-lo na sua chegada. Ele desperta os espíritos dos mortos por você, sim, todos os governantes da terra. Ele fez levantar de seus tronos todos os reis das nações.

Todos eles responderão e lhe perguntarão: “Você também se tornou tão fraco quanto nós? Você se tornou como nós?”

A sua pompa foi derrubada até o Sheol, junto com o som dos seus instrumentos de cordas. Larvas se espalham debaixo de você, e vermes o cobrem.

Como você caiu do céu, ó estrela brilhante, filho da alva! Como você foi cortado e lançado por terra, você que prostrava as nações!
- 13
Você dizia no seu coração: “Eu subirei ao céu! Exaltarei o meu trono acima das estrelas de Deus! Eu me assentarei no monte da congregação, no extremo norte!
- 14
Subirei acima das mais altas nuvens! Serei semelhante ao Altíssimo!”
- 15
Contudo, você será levado para baixo, ao Sheol, às profundezas do abismo.
- 16
Aqueles que o virem olharão fixamente para você. Eles o observarão com atenção, dizendo: “É este o homem que fazia a terra tremer, que abalava os reinos,
- 17
que transformava o mundo em um deserto, e destruía as suas cidades, que não permitia que os seus prisioneiros voltassem para casa?”
- 18
Todos os reis das nações dormem em glória, cada um em sua própria casa.
- 19
Mas você foi lançado fora do seu túmulo como um ramo abominável, coberto com os mortos que foram traspassados pela espada, que descem às pedras do abismo; como um cadáver pisoteado.
- 20
Você não se juntará a eles no sepultamento, porque você destruiu a sua terra. Você matou o seu povo. A descendência dos malfeitores jamais será nomeada.
- 21
Preparem a matança para os filhos dele por causa da iniquidade de seus pais, para que não se levantem e possuam a terra, e encham a superfície do mundo com cidades.
- 22
“Eu me levantarei contra eles”, diz o SENHOR dos Exércitos, “e eliminarei da Babilônia o nome e o remanescente, o filho e o neto”, diz o SENHOR.
- 23
“Também farei dela uma posse para o porco-espinho, e pântanos de água. Eu a varrerei com a vassoura da destruição”, diz o SENHOR dos Exércitos.
- 24
O SENHOR dos Exércitos jurou, dizendo: “Certamente, como eu pensei, assim acontecerá; e como eu determinei, assim permanecerá:
- 25
que eu quebrarei o assírio na minha terra, e o pisotearei nos meus montes. Então o seu jugo será tirado deles, e o seu fardo será removido dos seus ombros.
- 26
Este é o plano que está determinado para toda a terra. Esta é a mão que está estendida sobre todas as nações.
- 27
Pois o SENHOR dos Exércitos planejou, e quem poderá impedi-lo? A sua mão está estendida, e quem poderá fazê-la recuar?”
- 28
Este oráculo veio no ano em que o rei Acaz morreu.
- 29
Não se alegrem, todos vocês da Filístia, porque a vara que os feriu está quebrada; pois da raiz da serpente sairá uma víbora, e o seu fruto será uma serpente voadora e ardente.
- 30
O primogênito dos pobres comerá, e os necessitados se deitarão em segurança; e eu matarei a sua raiz com a fome, e o seu remanescente será morto.
- 31
Uive, ó porta! Clame, ó cidade! Você está derretida de medo, ó Filístia inteira; pois do norte vem fumaça, e não há retardatários em suas fileiras.
- 32
O que responderão aos mensageiros da nação? Que o SENHOR fundou Sião, e nela os aflitos do seu povo encontrarão refúgio.
