Isaiah 4
This brief chapter is the turn after chapter 3's devastation. It opens on the aftermath of war, seven women clutching one man just to lose their reproach, then pivots in verse 2 to a startling promise of the LORD's beautiful 'branch' and a cleansed remnant called holy. In six verses it gathers the survivors of Israel and rebuilds Mount Zion under a cloud by day and fire by night, with a canopy and pavilion for shade and shelter from storm. The imagery deliberately echoes the wilderness exodus, signaling a fresh protection over a purged city.

Seven women shall take hold of one man in that day, saying, “We will eat our own bread, and wear our own clothing. Just let us be called by your name. Take away our reproach.”

In that day, the LORD’s branch will be beautiful and glorious, and the fruit of the land will be the beauty and glory of the survivors of Israel.

It will happen that he who is left in Zion and he who remains in Jerusalem shall be called holy, even everyone who is written among the living in Jerusalem,

when the Lord shall have washed away the filth of the daughters of Zion, and shall have purged the blood of Jerusalem from within it, by the spirit of justice and by the spirit of burning.

The LORD will create over the whole habitation of Mount Zion and over her assemblies, a cloud and smoke by day, and the shining of a flaming fire by night, for over all the glory will be a canopy.

There will be a pavilion for a shade in the daytime from the heat, and for a refuge and for a shelter from storm and from rain.

Y ECHARÁN mano de un hombre siete mujeres en aquel tiempo, diciendo: Nosotras comeremos de nuestro pan, y nos vestiremos de nuestras ropas; solamente sea llamado tu nombre sobre nosotras, quita nuestro oprobio.

En aquel tiempo el renuevo de Jehová será para hermosura y gloria, y el fruto de la tierra para grandeza y honra, á los librados de Israel.

Y acontecerá que el que quedare en Sión, y el que fuere dejado en Jerusalem, será llamado santo; todos los que en Jerusalem están escritos entre los vivientes;

Cuando el Señor lavare las inmundicias de las hijas de Sión, y limpiare las sangres de Jerusalem de en medio de ella, con espíritu de juicio y con espíritu de ardimiento.

Y criará Jehová sobre toda la morada del monte de Sión, y sobre los lugares de sus convocaciones, nube y oscuridad de día, y de noche resplandor de fuego que eche llamas: porque sobre toda gloria habrá cobertura.

Y habrá sombrajo para sombra contra el calor del día, para acogida y escondedero contra el turbión y contra el aguacero.
Cleansed by burning
The hinge is verse 4: this restored Zion is reached only after the Lord 'washed away the filth' of the daughters of Zion and purges its bloodshed 'by the spirit of justice and by the spirit of burning.' Restoration here is not amnesty but purification through fire.
Set against chapter 3's stripped-bare city, this short oracle shows Isaiah's recurring rhythm: judgment is never the last word, and a remnant survives to inhabit the renewed glory.
