The LORD spoke to Moses, saying,

“Speak to the children of Israel, and take rods from them, one for each fathers’ house, of all their princes according to their fathers’ houses, twelve rods. Write each man’s name on his rod.

You shall write Aaron’s name on Levi’s rod. There shall be one rod for each head of their fathers’ houses.
- 4
You shall lay them up in the Tent of Meeting before the covenant, where I meet with you.
- 5
It shall happen that the rod of the man whom I shall choose shall bud. I will make the murmurings of the children of Israel, which they murmur against you, cease from me.”

Moses spoke to the children of Israel; and all their princes gave him rods, for each prince one, according to their fathers’ houses, a total of twelve rods. Aaron’s rod was among their rods.

Moses laid up the rods before the LORD in the Tent of the Testimony.

On the next day, Moses went into the Tent of the Testimony; and behold, Aaron’s rod for the house of Levi had sprouted, budded, produced blossoms, and bore ripe almonds.

Moses brought out all the rods from before the LORD to all the children of Israel. They looked, and each man took his rod.

The LORD said to Moses, “Put back the rod of Aaron before the covenant, to be kept for a token against the children of rebellion; that you may make an end of their complaining against me, that they not die.”

Moses did so. As the LORD commanded him, so he did.

The children of Israel spoke to Moses, saying, “Behold, we perish! We are undone! We are all undone!
- 13
Everyone who keeps approaching the LORD’s tabernacle, dies! Will we all perish?”

O SENHOR falou a Moisés, dizendo:
- 2
“Fale aos filhos de Israel e recolha deles varas, uma para cada casa paterna, de todos os seus líderes segundo as suas casas paternas, doze varas. Escreva o nome de cada homem na sua vara.
- 3
Você escreverá o nome de Arão na vara de Levi. Haverá uma vara para cada chefe das suas casas paternas.
- 4
Você as colocará na Tenda do Encontro, diante da aliança, onde eu me encontro com vocês.
- 5
Acontecerá que a vara do homem que eu escolher brotará. Assim, farei cessar diante de mim as murmurações dos filhos de Israel, que eles murmuram contra vocês.”

Moisés falou aos filhos de Israel; e todos os seus líderes lhe deram varas, uma para cada líder, segundo as suas casas paternas, num total de doze varas. A vara de Arão estava entre as varas deles.

Moisés colocou as varas diante do SENHOR na Tenda do Testemunho.
- 8
No dia seguinte, Moisés entrou na Tenda do Testemunho; e eis que a vara de Arão, pela casa de Levi, havia brotado, lançado botões, produzido flores e dado amêndoas maduras.
- 9
Moisés trouxe todas as varas de diante do SENHOR a todos os filhos de Israel. Eles olharam, e cada homem pegou a sua vara.

O SENHOR disse a Moisés: “Coloque de volta a vara de Arão diante da aliança, para ser guardada como um sinal contra os filhos da rebelião; para que você ponha fim às suas reclamações contra mim, para que não morram.”

Moisés fez assim. Como o SENHOR lhe ordenou, assim ele fez.
- 12
Os filhos de Israel falaram a Moisés, dizendo: “Eis que perecemos! Estamos perdidos! Estamos todos perdidos!
- 13
Todo aquele que se aproxima do tabernáculo do SENHOR morre! Será que todos nós pereceremos?”
