Proverbs 12
This run of sayings keeps returning to roots and standing: the root of the righteous that cannot be moved (v.3), the house that stands while the wicked are overthrown (v.7). Stability is the prize, and it grows from below the surface. A thread on speech weaves through — rash words that pierce like a sword against a tongue that heals (v.18), lying lips the LORD detests (v.22). Watch too for v.10, where respecting an animal's life becomes a measure of a person.

Whoever loves correction loves knowledge, but he who hates reproof is stupid.

Roots, words, and work
Three concrete tests of character sit close together. Verse 10 gauges mercy by how one treats a working animal; v.11 ties bread to tilling one's own land rather than chasing fantasies; v.24 promises rule to diligent hands. The wise life is practical before it is poetic.
Verse 16, on the fool who shows annoyance at once while the prudent overlooks an insult, captures the book's interest in timing and self-control — a small hinge between folly and wisdom.
