Proverbs 7
The warning becomes a story. From a window, through his lattice (v.6), the teacher watches a young man "void of understanding" walk toward the seductress's corner at twilight (v.7-9). What was abstract advice now plays out as a scene with a setting, dialogue and a trap. Watch how her speech is staged: she has paid her vows, perfumed her bed with myrrh and aloes, and her husband is away (v.14-20).

My son, keep my words. Lay up my commandments within you.

Keep my commandments and live! Guard my teaching as the apple of your eye.

Bind them on your fingers. Write them on the tablet of your heart.

Tell wisdom, “You are my sister.” Call understanding your relative,

that they may keep you from the strange woman, from the foreigner who flatters with her words.

For at the window of my house, I looked out through my lattice.

I saw among the simple ones. I discerned among the youths a young man void of understanding,

passing through the street near her corner, he went the way to her house,
- 9
in the twilight, in the evening of the day, in the middle of the night and in the darkness.

Behold, there a woman met him with the attire of a prostitute, and with crafty intent.

She is loud and defiant. Her feet don’t stay in her house.
- 12
Now she is in the streets, now in the squares, and lurking at every corner.
- 13
So she caught him, and kissed him. With an impudent face she said to him:

“Sacrifices of peace offerings are with me. Today I have paid my vows.
- 15
Therefore I came out to meet you, to diligently seek your face, and I have found you.
- 16
I have spread my couch with carpets of tapestry, with striped cloths of the yarn of Egypt.
- 17
I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon.
- 18
Come, let’s take our fill of loving until the morning. Let’s solace ourselves with loving.
- 19
For my husband isn’t at home. He has gone on a long journey.
- 20
He has taken a bag of money with him. He will come home at the full moon.”
- 21
With persuasive words, she led him astray. With the flattering of her lips, she seduced him.
- 22
He followed her immediately, as an ox goes to the slaughter, as a fool stepping into a noose.

Until an arrow strikes through his liver, as a bird hurries to the snare, and doesn’t know that it will cost his life.

Now therefore, sons, listen to me. Pay attention to the words of my mouth.

Don’t let your heart turn to her ways. Don’t go astray in her paths,
- 26
for she has thrown down many wounded. Yes, all her slain are a mighty army.

Her house is the way to Sheol, going down to the rooms of death.

passando pela rua perto da esquina dela, ele seguia o caminho para a casa dela,

no crepúsculo, no cair da tarde do dia, no meio da noite e na escuridão.

Eis que uma mulher foi ao seu encontro com trajes de prostituta, e com intenções astutas.

Ela é barulhenta e rebelde. Os seus pés não param na sua casa.

Ora ela está nas ruas, ora nas praças, e espreitando em cada esquina.

Então ela o agarrou e o beijou. Com um rosto descarado, ela lhe disse:

“Tenho comigo sacrifícios de ofertas pacíficas. Hoje eu paguei os meus votos.

Por isso saí ao seu encontro, para buscar diligentemente o seu rosto, e eu o encontrei.

Cobri a minha cama com tapetes de tapeçaria, com tecidos listrados de fios do Egito.
- 17
Perfumei o meu leito com mirra, aloés e canela.
- 18
Venha, vamos nos fartar de amor até a manhã. Vamos nos alegrar com o amor.
- 19
Pois o meu marido não está em casa. Ele partiu para uma longa viagem.
- 20
Ele levou consigo uma bolsa de dinheiro. Ele voltará para casa na lua cheia.”

Com palavras persuasivas ela o desviou. Com a lisonja dos seus lábios, ela o seduziu.

Ele a seguiu imediatamente, como um boi vai para o matadouro, como um tolo caminhando para a armadilha.

Até que uma flecha atravesse o seu fígado, como uma ave que se apressa para a armadilha, e não sabe que isso lhe custará a vida.

Agora, portanto, filhos, ouçam-me. Prestem atenção às palavras da minha boca.

Não deixe o seu coração se desviar para os caminhos dela. Não se perca nas suas veredas,

pois ela já derrubou a muitos feridos. Sim, todos os seus mortos são um exército poderoso.

The slaughter images
Verse 22 fires off three rapid comparisons for the man who follows: "as an ox goes to the slaughter," as a fool to the stocks, as a bird rushing into a snare that will cost its life (v.22-23). The point is the victim's unawareness of stakes that are already fatal.
The closing tally is military: she has "thrown down many wounded," and all her slain are "a mighty army" (v.26). Her house becomes a road downward to the chambers of death (v.27), tying this scene back to chapter 5's descent to Sheol.
