Psalms 126
It begins as memory: when the LORD brought the captives back to Zion, the people felt "like those who dream," mouths full of laughter, with the watching nations admitting the LORD had done great things for them. Joy so large it felt unreal.

When the LORD brought back those who returned to Zion, we were like those who dream.

Then our mouth was filled with laughter, and our tongue with singing. Then they said among the nations, “The LORD has done great things for them.”

The LORD has done great things for us, and we are glad.

Restore our fortunes again, LORD, like the streams in the Negev.
- 5
Those who sow in tears will reap in joy.
- 6
He who goes out weeping, carrying seed for sowing, will certainly come again with joy, carrying his sheaves.

From remembered joy to a present plea
Halfway through, the mood shifts from past rescue to a request still pending: "restore our fortunes again," sudden as desert streams in the Negev that fill after rain. The closing proverb holds the two moods together — the one who goes out weeping, carrying seed, comes back with joy and full sheaves. Tears and harvest belong to the same field.
