Psalms 134
The shortest of the Songs of Ascents, and the last of them. It calls out to the servants who keep the night watch in the LORD's house, telling them to lift their hands in the sanctuary and bless him. The first two verses are a summons going up; the third turns and comes back down as a blessing — from Zion, from the One who made heaven and earth.
- 1
Look! Praise the LORD, all you servants of the LORD, who stand by night in the LORD’s house!
- 2
Lift up your hands in the sanctuary. Praise the LORD!
- 3
May the LORD bless you from Zion, even he who made heaven and earth.
- 1
An exchange of blessings
Notice the reversal. The watchmen are told to bless the LORD by night; then the closing verse blesses them in return. The same maker of heaven and earth invoked here ends the pilgrim songs that began far from Jerusalem, with the crowd now standing inside the temple itself.
