"En el tiempo en que los reyes salen" a la guerra, David se queda en Jerusalén mientras Joab sitia y destruye Rabá, la capital amonita. David llega para tomar la corona de oro del rey, que pesaba un talento, ponérsela en su cabeza y someter a los cautivos a trabajos forzados con sierras y picos de hierro. Fíjate cómo Crónicas comprime la guerra y, notablemente, omite del todo el episodio de Betsabé que llena este vacío en 2 Samuel.

Y ACONTECIÓ á la vuelta del año, en el tiempo que suelen los reyes salir á la guerra , que Joab sacó las fuerzas del ejército, y destruyó la tierra de los hijos de Ammón, y vino y cercó á Rabba. Mas David estaba en Jerusalem: y Joab batió á Rabba, y destruyóla.

Y tomó David la corona de su rey de encima de su cabeza, y hallóla de peso de un talento de oro, y había en ella piedras preciosas; y fué puesta sobre la cabeza de David. Y además de esto sacó de la ciudad un muy gran despojo.

Sacó también al pueblo que estaba en ella, y cortólos con sierras, y con trillos de hierro, y segures. Lo mismo hizo David á todas las ciudades de los hijos de Ammón. Y volvióse David con todo el pueblo á Jerusalem.

Después de esto aconteció que se levantó guerra en Gezer con los Filisteos; é hirió Sibbecai Husathita á Sippai, del linaje de los gigantes; y fueron humillados.

Y volvióse á levantar guerra con los Filisteos; é hirió Elhanán hijo de Jair á Lahmi, hermano de Goliath Getheo, el asta de cuya lanza era como un enjullo de tejedores.

Y volvió á haber guerra en Gath, donde hubo un hombre de grande estatura, el cual tenía seis dedos en pies y manos , en todos veinticuatro: y también era hijo de Rapha.

Denostó él á Israel, mas hiriólo Jonathán, hijo de Sima hermano de David.

Estos fueron hijos de Rapha en Gath, los cuales cayeron por mano de David y de sus siervos.

At the time of the return of the year, at the time when kings go out, Joab led out the army and wasted the country of the children of Ammon, and came and besieged Rabbah. But David stayed at Jerusalem. Joab struck Rabbah, and overthrew it.

David took the crown of their king from off his head, and found it to weigh a talent of gold, and there were precious stones in it. It was set on David’s head, and he brought very much plunder out of the city.

He brought out the people who were in it, and had them cut with saws, with iron picks, and with axes. David did so to all the cities of the children of Ammon. Then David and all the people returned to Jerusalem.

After this, war arose at Gezer with the Philistines. Then Sibbecai the Hushathite killed Sippai, of the sons of the giant; and they were subdued.

Again there was war with the Philistines; and Elhanan the son of Jair killed Lahmi the brother of Goliath the Gittite, the staff of whose spear was like a weaver’s beam.

There was again war at Gath, where there was a man of great stature, who had twenty-four fingers and toes, six on each hand and six on each foot; and he also was born to the giant.

When he defied Israel, Jonathan the son of Shimea, David’s brother, killed him.

These were born to the giant in Gath; and they fell by the hand of David and by the hand of his servants.
Un catálogo de matadores de gigantes
El resto es una lista escueta de guerras filisteas contra descendientes del "gigante": Sibecai mata a Sipai en Gezer, Elhanán mata a Lahmi, hermano de Goliat, cuya asta de lanza era como un rodillo de telar, y Jonatán mata en Gat a un hombre con veinticuatro dedos.
Estas tres hazañas hacen eco del duelo de David con Goliat, pero ahora los gigantes caen por mano de sus hombres, no por la suya. El reino tiene ya campeones multiplicados: el trono no descansa sobre la honda de un solo pastor.
