Ora, os filisteus lutaram contra Israel; e os homens de Israel fugiram de diante dos filisteus, e caíram mortos no monte Gilboa.

Os filisteus perseguiram de perto a Saul e a seus filhos; e os filisteus mataram Jônatas, Abinadabe e Malquisua, filhos de Saul.
- 3
A batalha se agravou contra Saul, e os flecheiros o alcançaram; e ele ficou muito aflito por causa dos flecheiros.
- 4
Então Saul disse ao seu escudeiro: “Desembainhe a sua espada e atravesse-me com ela, para que estes incircuncisos não venham e me maltratem.” Mas o seu escudeiro não quis, pois estava aterrorizado. Portanto, Saul pegou a sua espada e caiu sobre ela.

Quando o seu escudeiro viu que Saul estava morto, ele também caiu sobre a sua espada e morreu.

Assim Saul morreu com os seus três filhos; e toda a sua casa morreu junta.
- 7
Quando todos os homens de Israel que estavam no vale viram que eles haviam fugido, e que Saul e seus filhos estavam mortos, eles abandonaram as suas cidades e fugiram; e os filisteus vieram e habitaram nelas.

No dia seguinte, quando os filisteus vieram para despojar os mortos, encontraram Saul e seus filhos caídos no monte Gilboa.

Eles o despojaram, pegaram a sua cabeça e a sua armadura, e enviaram mensageiros por toda a terra dos filisteus ao redor, para levar a notícia aos seus ídolos e ao povo.

Eles colocaram a sua armadura na casa dos seus deuses, e fixaram a sua cabeça na casa de Dagom.
- 11
Quando toda Jabes-Gileade ouviu tudo o que os filisteus haviam feito a Saul,
- 12
todos os homens valentes se levantaram, recolheram o corpo de Saul e os corpos de seus filhos, e os trouxeram para Jabes; enterraram os seus ossos debaixo do carvalho em Jabes, e jejuaram por sete dias.

Assim Saul morreu por causa da sua transgressão que cometeu contra o SENHOR, por causa da palavra do SENHOR, a qual ele não guardou, e também porque pediu conselho a alguém que tinha um espírito de adivinhação, para buscar orientação,
- 14
e não consultou o SENHOR. Portanto, ele o matou, e transferiu o reino para Davi, filho de Jessé.

Now the Philistines fought against Israel; and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell down slain on Mount Gilboa.
- 2
The Philistines followed hard after Saul and after his sons; and the Philistines killed Jonathan, Abinadab, and Malchishua, the sons of Saul.

The battle went hard against Saul, and the archers overtook him; and he was distressed by reason of the archers.
- 4
Then Saul said to his armor bearer, “Draw your sword, and thrust me through with it, lest these uncircumcised come and abuse me.” But his armor bearer would not, for he was terrified. Therefore Saul took his sword and fell on it.

When his armor bearer saw that Saul was dead, he likewise fell on his sword and died.
- 6
So Saul died with his three sons; and all his house died together.

When all the men of Israel who were in the valley saw that they fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, they abandoned their cities, and fled; and the Philistines came and lived in them.

On the next day, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, they found Saul and his sons fallen on Mount Gilboa.

They stripped him and took his head and his armor, then sent into the land of the Philistines all around to carry the news to their idols and to the people.
- 10
They put his armor in the house of their gods, and fastened his head in the house of Dagon.
- 11
When all Jabesh Gilead heard all that the Philistines had done to Saul,
- 12
all the valiant men arose and took away the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons, and brought them to Jabesh, and buried their bones under the oak in Jabesh, and fasted seven days.

So Saul died for his trespass which he committed against the LORD, because of the LORD’s word, which he didn’t keep, and also because he asked counsel of one who had a familiar spirit, to inquire,
- 14
and didn’t inquire of the LORD. Therefore he killed him, and turned the kingdom over to David the son of Jesse.
