Um dos sete anjos que tinham as sete tigelas veio e falou comigo, dizendo: “Venha aqui”. Vou lhes mostrar o julgamento da grande prostituta que se senta em muitas águas,

com quem os reis da terra cometeram imoralidade sexual. Aqueles que habitam na terra foram embebedados com o vinho de sua imoralidade sexual”.

Ele me transportou no Espírito para um deserto. Vi uma mulher sentada sobre uma besta de cor escarlate, cheia de nomes blasfemos, com sete cabeças e dez chifres.

A mulher estava vestida de roxo e escarlate, e adornada com ouro, pedras preciosas e pérolas, tendo na mão um cálice dourado cheio de abominações e as impurezas da imoralidade sexual da terra.

E em sua testa estava escrito: “MISTERIA, BABILÔNIA A GRANDE, A MÃE DOS PRÓSITOS E DAS ABOMINAÇÕES DA TERRA”.

Eu vi a mulher embriagada com o sangue dos santos e com o sangue dos mártires de Jesus. Quando a vi, me perguntei com grande espanto.

O anjo me disse: “Por que você se pergunta? Vou lhe contar o mistério da mulher e da besta que a carrega, que tem as sete cabeças e os dez chifres.

A besta que você viu era, e não é; e está prestes a sair do abismo e a entrar em destruição. Aqueles que habitam sobre a terra e cujos nomes não foram escritos no livro da vida desde a fundação do mundo vão se maravilhar quando virem que a besta estava, e não está, e estará presente.

Aqui está a mente que tem sabedoria. As sete cabeças são sete montanhas nas quais a mulher se senta.

Eles são sete reis. Cinco caíram, um é, e o outro ainda não chegou. Quando ele vier, ele deve continuar um pouco.

A besta que foi, e não é, ele mesmo é também um oitavo, e é dos sete; e ele vai para a destruição.

Os dez chifres que você viu são dez reis que ainda não receberam nenhum reino, mas recebem autoridade como reis com a besta durante uma hora.

Estes têm uma só mente, e dão seu poder e autoridade à besta.
- 14
Estes guerrearão contra o Cordeiro, e o Cordeiro os vencerá, pois ele é Senhor dos senhores e Rei dos reis; e aqueles que estão com ele são chamados, escolhidos e fiéis”.

Ele me disse: “As águas que você viu, onde a prostituta está sentada, são povos, multidões, nações e línguas”.
- 16
Os dez chifres que você viu, eles e a besta odiarão a prostituta, a deixarão desolada, a despirão, comerão sua carne e a queimarão totalmente com fogo.

Pois Deus colocou em seus corações para fazer o que tem em mente, para ser de uma só mente, e para dar seu reino à besta, até que as palavras de Deus sejam cumpridas.

A mulher que você viu é a grande cidade que reina sobre os reis da terra”.

One of the seven angels who had the seven bowls came and spoke with me, saying, “Come here. I will show you the judgment of the great prostitute who sits on many waters,

with whom the kings of the earth committed sexual immorality. Those who dwell in the earth were made drunken with the wine of her sexual immorality.”

He carried me away in the Spirit into a wilderness. I saw a woman sitting on a scarlet-colored beast, full of blasphemous names, having seven heads and ten horns.

The woman was dressed in purple and scarlet, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having in her hand a golden cup full of abominations and the impurities of the sexual immorality of the earth.

And on her forehead a name was written, “MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF THE PROSTITUTES AND OF THE ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.”

I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus. When I saw her, I wondered with great amazement.

The angel said to me, “Why do you wonder? I will tell you the mystery of the woman and of the beast that carries her, which has the seven heads and the ten horns.

The beast that you saw was, and is not; and is about to come up out of the abyss and to go into destruction. Those who dwell on the earth and whose names have not been written in the book of life from the foundation of the world will marvel when they see that the beast was, and is not, and shall be present.

Here is the mind that has wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains on which the woman sits.

They are seven kings. Five have fallen, the one is, and the other has not yet come. When he comes, he must continue a little while.

The beast that was, and is not, is himself also an eighth, and is of the seven; and he goes to destruction.
- 12
The ten horns that you saw are ten kings who have received no kingdom as yet, but they receive authority as kings with the beast for one hour.
- 13
These have one mind, and they give their power and authority to the beast.
- 14
These will war against the Lamb, and the Lamb will overcome them, for he is Lord of lords and King of kings; and those who are with him are called, chosen, and faithful.”

He said to me, “The waters which you saw, where the prostitute sits, are peoples, multitudes, nations, and languages.
- 16
The ten horns which you saw, they and the beast will hate the prostitute, will make her desolate, will strip her naked, will eat her flesh, and will burn her utterly with fire.
- 17
For God has put in their hearts to do what he has in mind, to be of one mind, and to give their kingdom to the beast, until the words of God should be accomplished.
- 18
The woman whom you saw is the great city which reigns over the kings of the earth.”
