A palavra que veio de Javé a Jeremias, dizendo:

“Levantem-se e vão até a casa do oleiro, e lá farei com que ouçam minhas palavras”.

Depois fui até a casa do oleiro, e eis que ele estava fazendo algo sobre as rodas.

Quando o vaso que ele fez do barro foi estragado na mão do oleiro, ele o fez novamente outro vaso, como parecia bom para o oleiro fazer.

Então a palavra de Javé veio até mim, dizendo:

“Casa de Israel, não posso fazer com você como este oleiro?” diz Javé. “Eis que, como o barro na mão do oleiro, também tu estás na minha mão, casa de Israel”.

No momento em que falo a respeito de uma nação, e a respeito de um reino, para arrancá-lo, derrubá-lo e destruí-lo,
- 8
se essa nação, a respeito da qual falei, se converter de seu mal, arrepender-me-ei do mal que pensei em fazer-lhes.

No instante em que eu falar sobre uma nação, e sobre um reino, para construí-lo e plantá-lo,
- 10
se eles fizerem o que é mau aos meus olhos, que não obedecem à minha voz, então eu me arrependerei do bem com o qual eu disse que os beneficiaria.

“ Agora, portanto, fale aos homens de Judá e aos habitantes de Jerusalém, dizendo: 'Javé diz: “Eis que eu incrimino o mal contra ti, e invento um plano contra ti. Todos retornam agora de seu mau caminho, e emendam seus caminhos e seus atos”.

Mas eles dizem: 'É em vão; pois caminharemos após nossos próprios planos, e cada um seguirá a teimosia de seu coração maligno'”.

Portanto, diz Yahweh: “Pergunte agora entre as nações, Quem já ouviu tais coisas? A virgem de Israel tem feito uma coisa muito horrível.

Será que a neve do Líbano falhará na rocha do campo? Será que as águas frias que descem de longe serão secas?
- 15
Pois meu povo me esqueceu. Eles queimaram incenso para falsos deuses. Eles têm sido obrigados a tropeçar em seus caminhos nos caminhos antigos, para entrar pelos caminhos, de uma forma não construída,

Então eles disseram: “Venha! Vamos elaborar planos contra Jeremias; pois a lei não perecerá do sacerdote, nem o conselho dos sábios, nem a palavra do profeta. Venha, e vamos golpeá-lo com a língua, e não vamos dar ouvidos a nenhuma de suas palavras”.

Preste atenção em mim, Yahweh, e ouvir a voz daqueles que lutam comigo.

O mal deve ser recompensado pelo bem? Pois eles cavaram um poço para minha alma. Lembrem-se de como eu estava diante de vocês para falar bem por eles, para desviar deles a sua ira.

Portanto, entregam seus filhos à fome, e entregá-los ao poder da espada. Deixem suas esposas ficarem sem filhos e viúvas. Que seus homens sejam mortos e seus jovens atingidos pela espada em batalha.

Let um grito seja ouvido de suas casas quando você traz uma tropa de repente sobre eles; pois eles cavaram um poço para me levar e laços escondidos para os meus pés.

Ainda assim, Javé, você conhece todos os conselhos deles contra mim para me matar. Não perdoe sua iniqüidade. Não apague o pecado deles de sua vista, Deixe-os ser derrubados diante de você. Lidar com eles no momento de sua raiva.

The word which came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,

“Arise, and go down to the potter’s house, and there I will cause you to hear my words.”

Then I went down to the potter’s house, and behold, he was making something on the wheels.

When the vessel that he made of the clay was marred in the hand of the potter, he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it.

Then the LORD’s word came to me, saying,
- 6
“House of Israel, can’t I do with you as this potter?” says the LORD. “Behold, as the clay in the potter’s hand, so are you in my hand, house of Israel.

At the instant I speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to pluck up and to break down and to destroy it,
- 8
if that nation, concerning which I have spoken, turns from their evil, I will repent of the evil that I thought to do to them.

At the instant I speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to build and to plant it,
- 10
if they do that which is evil in my sight, that they don’t obey my voice, then I will repent of the good with which I said I would benefit them.

“Now therefore, speak to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying, ‘The LORD says: “Behold, I frame evil against you, and devise a plan against you. Everyone return from his evil way now, and amend your ways and your doings.”’

But they say, ‘It is in vain; for we will walk after our own plans, and we will each follow the stubbornness of his evil heart.’”
- 13
Therefore the LORD says: “Ask now among the nations, ‘Who has heard such things?’ The virgin of Israel has done a very horrible thing.
- 14
Will the snow of Lebanon fail from the rock of the field? Will the cold waters that flow down from afar be dried up?
- 15
For my people have forgotten me. They have burned incense to false gods. They have been made to stumble in their ways in the ancient paths, to walk in byways, in a way not built up,
- 16
to make their land an astonishment, and a perpetual hissing. Everyone who passes by it will be astonished, and shake his head.
- 17
I will scatter them as with an east wind before the enemy. I will show them the back, and not the face, in the day of their calamity.
- 18
Then they said, “Come! Let’s devise plans against Jeremiah; for the law won’t perish from the priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor the word from the prophet. Come, and let’s strike him with the tongue, and let’s not give heed to any of his words.”

Give heed to me, LORD, and listen to the voice of those who contend with me.
- 20
Should evil be recompensed for good? For they have dug a pit for my soul. Remember how I stood before you to speak good for them, to turn away your wrath from them.
- 21
Therefore deliver up their children to the famine, and give them over to the power of the sword. Let their wives become childless and widows. Let their men be killed and their young men struck by the sword in battle.
- 22
Let a cry be heard from their houses when you bring a troop suddenly on them; for they have dug a pit to take me and hidden snares for my feet.
- 23
Yet, LORD, you know all their counsel against me to kill me. Don’t forgive their iniquity. Don’t blot out their sin from your sight, Let them be overthrown before you. Deal with them in the time of your anger.
