Novamente, no dia em que os filhos de Deus vieram apresentar-se perante o SENHOR, Satanás também veio entre eles para apresentar-se perante o SENHOR.

O SENHOR disse a Satanás: “De onde você vem?” Satanás respondeu ao SENHOR, e disse: “De percorrer a terra, e de andar por ela.”

O SENHOR disse a Satanás: “Você considerou o meu servo Jó? Pois não há ninguém como ele na terra, um homem íntegro e reto, que teme a Deus e se desvia do mal. Ele ainda mantém a sua integridade, embora você me tenha incitado contra ele, para arruiná-lo sem motivo.”

Satanás respondeu ao SENHOR, e disse: “Pele por pele. Sim, tudo o que o homem tem ele dará pela sua vida.

Mas estenda agora a sua mão, e toque no seu osso e na sua carne, e ele o amaldiçoará na sua face.”

O SENHOR disse a Satanás: “Eis que ele está na sua mão. Apenas poupe a vida dele.”

Então Satanás saiu da presença do SENHOR, e feriu Jó com feridas dolorosas, desde a sola do seu pé até a sua cabeça.

Ele pegou um caco de cerâmica para se raspar, e sentou-se no meio das cinzas.

Então a sua mulher lhe disse: “Você ainda mantém a sua integridade? Amaldiçoe a Deus, e morra.”
- 10
Mas ele lhe disse: “Você fala como falaria uma das mulheres tolas. O quê? Receberemos o bem da mão de Deus, e não receberemos o mal?” Em tudo isso Jó não pecou com os seus lábios.

Quando os três amigos de Jó ouviram de todo esse mal que lhe havia sobrevindo, vieram cada um do seu próprio lugar: Elifaz, o temanita, Bildade, o suíta, e Zofar, o naamatita; e combinaram de vir juntos para se compadecerem dele e para o consolarem.

Quando levantaram os seus olhos de longe, e não o reconheceram, ergueram as suas vozes e choraram; e cada um rasgou o seu manto, e lançaram pó sobre as suas cabeças em direção ao céu.

Então eles se sentaram com ele no chão durante sete dias e sete noites, e ninguém lhe disse uma palavra, pois viam que o seu sofrimento era muito grande.

Again, on the day when God’s sons came to present themselves before the LORD, Satan came also among them to present himself before the LORD.

The LORD said to Satan, “Where have you come from?” Satan answered the LORD, and said, “From going back and forth in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.”

The LORD said to Satan, “Have you considered my servant Job? For there is no one like him in the earth, a blameless and an upright man, one who fears God, and turns away from evil. He still maintains his integrity, although you incited me against him, to ruin him without cause.”

Satan answered the LORD, and said, “Skin for skin. Yes, all that a man has he will give for his life.

But stretch out your hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will renounce you to your face.”

The LORD said to Satan, “Behold, he is in your hand. Only spare his life.”
- 7
So Satan went out from the presence of the LORD, and struck Job with painful sores from the sole of his foot to his head.

He took for himself a potsherd to scrape himself with, and he sat among the ashes.
- 9
Then his wife said to him, “Do you still maintain your integrity? Renounce God, and die.”
- 10
But he said to her, “You speak as one of the foolish women would speak. What? Shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil?” In all this Job didn’t sin with his lips.

Now when Job’s three friends heard of all this evil that had come on him, they each came from his own place: Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite; and they made an appointment together to come to sympathize with him and to comfort him.
- 12
When they lifted up their eyes from a distance, and didn’t recognize him, they raised their voices, and wept; and they each tore his robe, and sprinkled dust on their heads toward the sky.
- 13
So they sat down with him on the ground seven days and seven nights, and no one spoke a word to him, for they saw that his grief was very great.
