Lucas 21
Dois contrastes emolduram o capítulo: uma viúva que lança duas pequenas moedas pesa mais que os ricos no tesouro, e as pedras admiradas do templo são condenadas a cair. Dessa profecia a pergunta dos discípulos leva Jesus a um longo discurso sobre o cerco de Jerusalém, os sinais e a vinda do Filho do homem numa nuvem. Leia observando como Jesus separa o próximo do distante. A perseguição, os exércitos ao redor da cidade e a figueira que brota pertencem a um horizonte; os céus abalados, a outro. O recado é prático: vigiar e não deixar o coração ficar pesado.

Ele olhou para cima e viu os ricos que estavam colocando suas ofertas no tesouro.

Ele viu uma certa viúva pobre lançando ali duas pequenas moedas de cobre.

Ele disse: “Em verdade lhes digo que esta viúva pobre colocou mais do que todos eles,
- 4
pois todos estes colocaram ofertas para Deus da sua abundância, mas ela, da sua pobreza, colocou tudo o que tinha para o seu sustento.”

Como alguns estavam falando sobre o templo e como ele estava adornado com belas pedras e ofertas dedicadas, ele disse:

“Quanto a estas coisas que vocês veem, virão dias em que não ficará aqui pedra sobre pedra que não seja derrubada.”

Eles lhe perguntaram: “Mestre, então quando acontecerão estas coisas? Qual é o sinal de que estas coisas estão prestes a acontecer?”

Ele disse: “Cuidado para não serem enganados, pois muitos virão em meu nome, dizendo: ‘Sou eu ’, e, ‘O tempo está próximo.’ Portanto, não os sigam.

Quando ouvirem falar de guerras e tumultos, não fiquem aterrorizados, pois estas coisas devem acontecer primeiro, mas o fim não virá imediatamente.”

Então ele lhes disse: “Nação se levantará contra nação, e reino contra reino.
- 11
Haverá grandes terremotos, fomes e pestes em vários lugares. Haverá terrores e grandes sinais do céu.
- 12
Mas antes de todas estas coisas, eles lançarão as mãos sobre vocês e os perseguirão, entregando-os às sinagogas e prisões, levando-os perante reis e governadores por causa do meu nome.

Isso resultará em testemunho para vocês.
- 14
Portanto, decidam em seus corações não premeditar como responder,
- 15
pois eu lhes darei palavras e sabedoria às quais todos os seus adversários não poderão resistir ou contradizer.
- 16
Vocês serão entregues até mesmo por pais, irmãos, parentes e amigos. Eles farão com que alguns de vocês sejam mortos.

Vocês serão odiados por todos por causa do meu nome.
- 18
E não perecerá nem um fio de cabelo da cabeça de vocês.

“Pela sua perseverança vocês ganharão as suas vidas.
- 20
“Mas quando vocês virem Jerusalém cercada por exércitos, então saibam que a sua desolação está próxima.
- 21
Então, os que estiverem na Judeia fujam para os montes. Os que estiverem no meio dela, saiam. Os que estiverem no campo, não entrem nela.

Pois estes são dias de vingança, para que se cumpram todas as coisas que estão escritas.
- 23
Ai das que estiverem grávidas e das que amamentarem naqueles dias! Pois haverá grande aflição na terra e ira contra este povo.
- 24
Eles cairão ao fio da espada e serão levados cativos para todas as nações. Jerusalém será pisada pelos gentios, até que os tempos dos gentios se cumpram.

“Haverá sinais no sol, na lua e nas estrelas; e na terra angústia das nações, em perplexidade pelo bramido do mar e das ondas;

homens desmaiando de medo e pela expectativa das coisas que sobrevirão ao mundo, pois os poderes dos céus serão abalados.
- 27
Então eles verão o Filho do Homem vindo numa nuvem com poder e grande glória.
- 28
Mas quando estas coisas começarem a acontecer, olhem para cima e levantem as suas cabeças, porque a sua redenção está próxima.”

Ele lhes contou uma parábola: “Vejam a figueira e todas as árvores.
- 30
Quando elas já estão brotando, vocês veem e sabem por si mesmos que o verão já está próximo.

Da mesma forma vocês também, quando virem estas coisas acontecendo, saibam que o Reino de Deus está próximo.

Com toda a certeza lhes digo: esta geração não passará até que todas as coisas se cumpram.

O céu e a terra passarão, mas as minhas palavras de modo nenhum passarão.

“Portanto, tenham cuidado, para que os seus corações não fiquem sobrecarregados com dissipação, bebedeiras e as preocupações desta vida, e aquele dia venha sobre vocês repentinamente.
- 35
Pois ele virá como um laço sobre todos os que habitam na face de toda a terra.
- 36
Portanto, vigiem o tempo todo, orando para que possam ser considerados dignos de escapar de todas estas coisas que acontecerão, e de estar em pé diante do Filho do Homem.”

Todos os dias Jesus ensinava no templo, e todas as noites ele saía e passava a noite no monte que é chamado das Oliveiras.

Todo o povo vinha de manhã cedo a ele no templo para ouvi-lo.

He looked up and saw the rich people who were putting their gifts into the treasury.

He saw a certain poor widow casting in two small brass coins.

He said, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow put in more than all of them,
- 4
for all these put in gifts for God from their abundance, but she, out of her poverty, put in all that she had to live on.”

As some were talking about the temple and how it was decorated with beautiful stones and gifts, he said,
- 6
“As for these things which you see, the days will come in which there will not be left here one stone on another that will not be thrown down.”
- 7
They asked him, “Teacher, so when will these things be? What is the sign that these things are about to happen?”
- 8
He said, “Watch out that you don’t get led astray, for many will come in my name, saying, ‘I am he ,’ and, ‘The time is at hand.’ Therefore don’t follow them.
- 9
When you hear of wars and disturbances, don’t be terrified, for these things must happen first, but the end won’t come immediately.”

Then he said to them, “Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.
- 11
There will be great earthquakes, famines, and plagues in various places. There will be terrors and great signs from heaven.
- 12
But before all these things, they will lay their hands on you and will persecute you, delivering you up to synagogues and prisons, bringing you before kings and governors for my name’s sake.

It will turn out as a testimony for you.
- 14
Settle it therefore in your hearts not to meditate beforehand how to answer,
- 15
for I will give you a mouth and wisdom which all your adversaries will not be able to withstand or to contradict.
- 16
You will be handed over even by parents, brothers, relatives, and friends. They will cause some of you to be put to death.
- 17
You will be hated by all men for my name’s sake.
- 18
And not a hair of your head will perish.
- 19
“By your endurance you will win your lives.
- 20
“But when you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, then know that its desolation is at hand.
- 21
Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. Let those who are in the middle of her depart. Let those who are in the country not enter therein.
- 22
For these are days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled.
- 23
Woe to those who are pregnant and to those who nurse infants in those days! For there will be great distress in the land and wrath to this people.
- 24
They will fall by the edge of the sword, and will be led captive into all the nations. Jerusalem will be trampled down by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.
- 25
“There will be signs in the sun, moon, and stars; and on the earth anxiety of nations, in perplexity for the roaring of the sea and the waves;
- 26
men fainting for fear and for expectation of the things which are coming on the world, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken.
- 27
Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.
- 28
But when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is near.”

He told them a parable. “See the fig tree and all the trees.
- 30
When they are already budding, you see it and know by your own selves that the summer is already near.
- 31
Even so you also, when you see these things happening, know that God’s Kingdom is near.
- 32
Most certainly I tell you, this generation will not pass away until all things are accomplished.
- 33
Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will by no means pass away.
- 34
“So be careful, or your hearts will be loaded down with carousing, drunkenness, and cares of this life, and that day will come on you suddenly.
- 35
For it will come like a snare on all those who dwell on the surface of all the earth.
- 36
Therefore be watchful all the time, praying that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things that will happen, and to stand before the Son of Man.”

Every day Jesus was teaching in the temple, and every night he would go out and spend the night on the mountain that is called Olivet.

All the people came early in the morning to him in the temple to hear him.
Perseverança, não cálculo
Diante da pergunta sobre o sinal e o momento (v.7), Jesus recusa-se a alimentar a previsão. Adverte que não sigam os que dizem 'o tempo está próximo' nem ensaiem de antemão a defesa, prometendo dar-lhes boca e sabedoria diante dos tribunais.
O eixo é o v.19, 'pela sua perseverança vocês ganharão a vida', somado à promessa do v.33 de que suas palavras duram mais que céu e terra. Lucas encerra o dia com Jesus ensinando no templo e pernoitando no monte das Oliveiras, cenário que prepara a prisão.
