Salmos 115
Nasce do escárnio das nações: "Onde está o Deus deles?" O salmo recusa o mérito próprio ("Não a nós, SENHOR") e devolve o escárnio aos deuses dos zombadores, ídolos com boca que não falam. Caminha para um triplo chamado a confiar.

Não a nós, SENHOR, não a nós, mas dá glória ao teu nome, por causa do teu amor leal e por causa da tua verdade.

Por que as nações diriam: “Onde está o Deus deles, agora?”

Mas o nosso Deus está nos céus. Ele faz tudo o que lhe agrada.

Os ídolos deles são prata e ouro, obra das mãos dos homens.

Têm boca, mas não falam. Têm olhos, mas não veem.

Têm ouvidos, mas não ouvem. Têm nariz, mas não cheiram.

Têm mãos, mas não sentem. Têm pés, mas não andam, nem falam pela sua garganta.

Aqueles que os fazem serão como eles; sim, todos os que neles confiam.

Israel, confie no SENHOR! Ele é o seu auxílio e o seu escudo.

Os céus são os céus do SENHOR, mas a terra ele deu aos filhos dos homens.

Os mortos não louvam ao SENHOR, nem nenhum dos que descem ao silêncio,

mas nós bendiremos ao SENHOR, desde agora e para sempre. Louvem ao SENHOR!

They have ears, but they don’t hear. They have noses, but they don’t smell.

They have hands, but they don’t feel. They have feet, but they don’t walk, neither do they speak through their throat.

Those who make them will be like them; yes, everyone who trusts in them.

Israel, trust in the LORD! He is their help and their shield.
- 10
House of Aaron, trust in the LORD! He is their help and their shield.
- 11
You who fear the LORD, trust in the LORD! He is their help and their shield.
- 12
The LORD remembers us. He will bless us. He will bless the house of Israel. He will bless the house of Aaron.

He will bless those who fear the LORD, both small and great.
- 14
May the LORD increase you more and more, you and your children.
- 15
Blessed are you by the LORD, who made heaven and earth.
- 16
The heavens are the LORD’s heavens, but he has given the earth to the children of men.
- 17
The dead don’t praise the LORD, nor any who go down into silence,
- 18
but we will bless the LORD, from this time forward and forever more. Praise the LORD!
A gente se torna o que adora
Os versículos 4-7 listam os sentidos mortos do ídolo, e o v.8 desfere o golpe: os que os fazem "serão como eles". Diante disso, três grupos são chamados pelo nome a confiar no SENHOR (v.9-11): Israel, a casa de Arão e os que o temem. O contraste entre as estátuas sem vida e o Deus vivo que "faz tudo o que lhe agrada" (v.3) conduz o poema.
