Salmos 2
Depois da quietude do Salmo 1, este começa aos gritos: as nações se amotinam, reis e governantes conspiram para se livrar do Senhor e do seu Ungido (vv.1-3). A cena então corta para o céu, onde aquele que está entronizado simplesmente ri (v.4). Leia como um drama de coroação em quatro vozes: os rebeldes, Deus, o rei e a convocação final.

Por que as nações se enfurecem, e os povos tramam coisas vãs?

Os reis da terra tomam posição, e os governantes se reúnem em conselho, contra o SENHOR e contra o seu Ungido, dizendo:

“Rompamos os seus laços, e lancemos de nós as suas cordas.”
- 4
Aquele que está assentado nos céus rirá. O Senhor zombará deles.

Então ele lhes falará na sua ira, e os aterrorizará no seu furor:
- 6
“Contudo, eu estabeleci o meu Rei no meu santo monte de Sião.”

Proclamarei o decreto: O SENHOR me disse: “Você é meu filho. Hoje eu me tornei seu pai.
- 8
Peça-me, e eu lhe darei as nações por sua herança, e os confins da terra por sua possessão.
- 9
Você as quebrará com uma vara de ferro. Você as despedaçará como a um vaso de oleiro.”

Agora, portanto, sejam sábios, ó reis. Deixem-se instruir, juízes da terra.

Sirvam ao SENHOR com temor, e alegrem-se com tremor.

Prestem sincera homenagem ao Filho, para que ele não se ire, e vocês pereçam no caminho, pois em breve a sua ira se acenderá. Bem-aventurados são todos os que nele se refugiam.

Why do the nations rage, and the peoples plot a vain thing?

The kings of the earth take a stand, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his Anointed, saying,
- 3
“Let’s break their bonds apart, and cast their cords from us.”
- 4
He who sits in the heavens will laugh. The Lord will have them in derision.

Then he will speak to them in his anger, and terrify them in his wrath:
- 6
“Yet I have set my King on my holy hill of Zion.”

I will tell of the decree: The LORD said to me, “You are my son. Today I have become your father.
- 8
Ask of me, and I will give the nations for your inheritance, the uttermost parts of the earth for your possession.
- 9
You shall break them with a rod of iron. You shall dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel.”
- 10
Now therefore be wise, you kings. Be instructed, you judges of the earth.
- 11
Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling.
- 12
Give sincere homage to the Son, lest he be angry, and you perish on the way, for his wrath will soon be kindled. Blessed are all those who take refuge in him.
Quatro vozes, um decreto
O salmo vai passando a palavra. Os rebeldes falam no v.3; Deus responde no v.6, tendo posto o seu rei sobre Sião; o rei recita o decreto, "Tu és meu filho" (v.7), com as nações prometidas por herança. A última estrofe se volta aos próprios reis: sirvam com temor, prestem homenagem ao Filho. O assunto inteiro é o poder, e onde ele de fato reside é o ponto.
