Salmos 68
Um hino de procissão que abre com o grito de Moisés — "Levante-se Deus" — e acompanha a marcha de Deus desde o Sinai, pelo deserto, até o seu santuário em Sião. Repare como a geografia se move: a terra que treme no Sinai, os montes de Basã invejando o monte mais baixo que Deus escolheu. O salmo reúne as tribos (Benjamim, Judá, Zebulom, Naftali) e depois os reinos estrangeiros — Egito, Etiópia — num só ato de louvor àquele que cavalga sobre as nuvens.

Levante-se Deus! Sejam espalhados os seus inimigos! Fujam também de diante dele os que o odeiam.

Como a fumaça é dissipada, assim tu os dissipes. Como a cera derrete diante do fogo, assim pereçam os ímpios na presença de Deus.

Mas alegrem-se os justos. Exultem diante de Deus. Sim, que eles se regozijem com alegria.

Cantem a Deus! Cantem louvores ao seu nome! Exaltem aquele que cavalga sobre as nuvens: ao SENHOR, o seu nome! Alegrem-se diante dele!

Pai dos órfãos e defensor das viúvas, é Deus em sua santa habitação.

Deus faz com que o solitário viva em família. Ele liberta os prisioneiros com cânticos de alegria, mas os rebeldes habitam em terra árida.

Ó Deus, quando saíste à frente do teu povo, quando marchaste pelo deserto... Selá.

A terra tremeu. O céu também derramou chuva na presença do Deus do Sinai— na presença de Deus, o Deus de Israel.

Tu, ó Deus, enviaste chuva abundante. Tu confirmaste a tua herança quando ela estava exausta.

A tua congregação habitou nela. Tu, ó Deus, preparaste a tua bondade para os pobres.

O Senhor anunciou a palavra. Aqueles que a proclamam são uma grande multidão.

“Reis de exércitos fogem! Eles fogem!” Aquela que espera em casa reparte os despojos,

enquanto vocês dormem entre as fogueiras do acampamento, as asas de uma pomba revestidas de prata, e as suas penas com ouro resplandecente.

Quando o Todo-Poderoso espalhou os reis nela, nevou no monte Zalmom.

Os montes de Basã são montes majestosos. Os montes de Basã são escarpados.

Por que vocês olham com inveja, montes escarpados, para o monte onde Deus escolheu reinar? Sim, o SENHOR habitará ali para sempre.

As carruagens de Deus são dezenas de milhares e milhares de milhares. O Senhor está entre eles, do Sinai para o santuário.

Tu subiste às alturas. Tu levaste cativos. Tu recebeste dádivas entre os homens, sim, até mesmo entre os rebeldes, para que o SENHOR Deus pudesse habitar ali.

Bendito seja o Senhor, que diariamente leva as nossas cargas, o Deus que é a nossa salvação. Selá.

Deus é para nós um Deus de libertação. A DEUS, o Senhor, pertence o livramento da morte.
- 21
Mas Deus esmagará a cabeça dos seus inimigos, o crânio cabeludo daquele que ainda continua em sua culpa.

O Senhor disse: “Eu os trarei de volta de Basã, eu os trarei de volta das profundezas do mar,
- 23
para que você os esmague, mergulhando o seu pé no sangue, para que as línguas dos seus cães tenham a sua porção dos seus inimigos.”

Eles viram os teus cortejos, ó Deus, os cortejos do meu Deus, o meu Rei, entrando no santuário.
- 25
Os cantores iam à frente, os músicos os seguiam, entre as moças tocando tamborins,

“Bendigam a Deus nas congregações, ao Senhor na assembleia de Israel!”

Ali está o pequeno Benjamim, o governante deles, os príncipes de Judá, o conselho deles, os príncipes de Zebulom e os príncipes de Naftali.

O teu Deus ordenou a tua força. Fortalece, ó Deus, aquilo que fizeste por nós.

Por causa do teu templo em Jerusalém, reis trarão presentes a ti.

Repreende a fera dos juncos, a multidão dos touros com os bezerros dos povos. Pisoteia as barras de prata. Espalha as nações que se deleitam na guerra.

Príncipes virão do Egito. A Etiópia se apressará em estender as suas mãos para Deus.

Cantem a Deus, reinos da terra! Cantem louvores ao Senhor— Selá—
- 33
àquele que cavalga sobre o céu dos céus, que existem desde a antiguidade; eis que ele emite a sua voz, uma voz poderosa.

Atribuam poder a Deus! A sua majestade está sobre Israel, o seu poder está nos céus.

Tu és temível, ó Deus, nos teus santuários. O Deus de Israel dá força e poder ao seu povo. Louvado seja Deus!

As smoke is driven away, so drive them away. As wax melts before the fire, so let the wicked perish at the presence of God.

But let the righteous be glad. Let them rejoice before God. Yes, let them rejoice with gladness.

Sing to God! Sing praises to his name! Extol him who rides on the clouds: to the LORD, his name! Rejoice before him!

A father of the fatherless, and a defender of the widows, is God in his holy habitation.

God sets the lonely in families. He brings out the prisoners with singing, but the rebellious dwell in a sun-scorched land.

God, when you went out before your people, when you marched through the wilderness... Selah.

The earth trembled. The sky also poured down rain at the presence of the God of Sinai— at the presence of God, the God of Israel.

You, God, sent a plentiful rain. You confirmed your inheritance when it was weary.
- 10
Your congregation lived therein. You, God, prepared your goodness for the poor.
- 11
The Lord announced the word. The ones who proclaim it are a great company.
- 12
“Kings of armies flee! They flee!” She who waits at home divides the plunder,

while you sleep among the camp fires, the wings of a dove sheathed with silver, her feathers with shining gold.

When the Almighty scattered kings in her, it snowed on Zalmon.

The mountains of Bashan are majestic mountains. The mountains of Bashan are rugged.

Why do you look in envy, you rugged mountains, at the mountain where God chooses to reign? Yes, the LORD will dwell there forever.

The chariots of God are tens of thousands and thousands of thousands. The Lord is among them, from Sinai, into the sanctuary.

You have ascended on high. You have led away captives. You have received gifts among people, yes, among the rebellious also, that the LORD God might dwell there.

Blessed be the Lord, who daily bears our burdens, even the God who is our salvation. Selah.
- 20
God is to us a God of deliverance. To GOD, the Lord, belongs escape from death.

But God will strike through the head of his enemies, the hairy scalp of such a one as still continues in his guiltiness.
- 22
The Lord said, “I will bring you again from Bashan, I will bring you again from the depths of the sea,
- 23
that you may crush them, dipping your foot in blood, that the tongues of your dogs may have their portion from your enemies.”

They have seen your processions, God, even the processions of my God, my King, into the sanctuary.
- 25
The singers went before, the minstrels followed after, among the ladies playing with tambourines,
- 26
“Bless God in the congregations, even the Lord in the assembly of Israel!”
- 27
There is little Benjamin, their ruler, the princes of Judah, their council, the princes of Zebulun, and the princes of Naphtali.
- 28
Your God has commanded your strength. Strengthen, God, that which you have done for us.
- 29
Because of your temple at Jerusalem, kings shall bring presents to you.
- 30
Rebuke the wild animal of the reeds, the multitude of the bulls with the calves of the peoples. Trample under foot the bars of silver. Scatter the nations who delight in war.

Princes shall come out of Egypt. Ethiopia shall hurry to stretch out her hands to God.
- 32
Sing to God, you kingdoms of the earth! Sing praises to the Lord— Selah—
- 33
to him who rides on the heaven of heavens, which are of old; behold, he utters his voice, a mighty voice.
- 34
Ascribe strength to God! His excellency is over Israel, his strength is in the skies.

You are awesome, God, in your sanctuaries. The God of Israel gives strength and power to his people. Praise be to God!
Deus que defende o indefeso
Antes de a imagem militar crescer, o versículo 5 define o caráter desse Deus vitorioso: pai de órfãos e defensor de viúvas. O versículo 6 acrescenta que ele dá lar aos solitários e liberta os presos. O mesmo que cavalga sobre os céus é quem carrega as nossas cargas a cada dia (v.19): força e ternura juntas.
