Salomão fez uma aliança de casamento com o Faraó, rei do Egito. Ele casou-se com a filha do Faraó e a trouxe para a cidade de Davi, até que terminasse de construir a sua própria casa, a casa do SENHOR e a muralha ao redor de Jerusalém.

No entanto, o povo sacrificava nos lugares altos, porque ainda não havia uma casa construída para o nome do SENHOR.

Salomão amava o SENHOR, andando nos estatutos de Davi, seu pai, apenas que ele sacrificava e queimava incenso nos lugares altos.

O rei foi a Gibeão para sacrificar lá, pois aquele era o principal lugar alto. Salomão ofereceu mil holocaustos naquele altar.

Em Gibeão, o SENHOR apareceu a Salomão em um sonho durante a noite; e Deus disse: “Peça o que eu devo lhe dar.”

Salomão disse: “O Senhor mostrou ao seu servo Davi, meu pai, grande bondade, porque ele andou diante do Senhor em verdade, em justiça e em retidão de coração. O Senhor manteve para ele esta grande bondade, e lhe deu um filho para se assentar no seu trono, como se vê hoje.

Agora, SENHOR meu Deus, o Senhor fez do seu servo rei em lugar de Davi, meu pai. Eu sou apenas uma criança pequena. Não sei como sair nem entrar.

O seu servo está no meio do seu povo que o Senhor escolheu, um grande povo, que não pode ser numerado nem contado de tão numeroso.
- 9
Dê, portanto, ao seu servo um coração com entendimento para julgar o seu povo, para que eu possa discernir entre o bem e o mal; pois quem é capaz de julgar este seu grande povo?”

Este pedido agradou ao Senhor, por Salomão ter pedido tal coisa.

Deus lhe disse: “Já que você pediu isso, e não pediu para si mesmo vida longa, nem pediu riquezas para si mesmo, nem pediu a vida dos seus inimigos, mas pediu para si mesmo entendimento para discernir a justiça,

eis que fiz segundo a sua palavra. Eis que lhe dei um coração sábio e com entendimento, de modo que não houve ninguém como você antes, e depois de você não se levantará ninguém igual a você.

Também lhe dei o que você não pediu, tanto riquezas quanto honra, de modo que não haverá nenhum entre os reis como você por todos os seus dias.

Se você andar nos meus caminhos, guardando os meus estatutos e os meus mandamentos, como andou Davi, seu pai, então prolongarei os seus dias.”

Salomão acordou; e eis que era um sonho. Então ele foi a Jerusalém e se colocou diante da arca da aliança do SENHOR, e ofereceu holocaustos, ofereceu sacrifícios pacíficos e fez um banquete para todos os seus servos.

Então duas mulheres que eram prostitutas vieram ao rei e se apresentaram diante dele.

Uma mulher disse: “Ah, meu senhor, eu e esta mulher moramos na mesma casa. Eu dei à luz um filho estando com ela na casa.
- 18
No terceiro dia depois que eu dei à luz, esta mulher também deu à luz. Nós estávamos juntas. Não havia nenhum estranho conosco na casa, apenas nós duas na casa.

O filho desta mulher morreu durante a noite, porque ela se deitou sobre ele.
- 20
Ela se levantou à meia-noite, e tirou o meu filho do meu lado enquanto a sua serva dormia, e o deitou no seu colo, e deitou o seu filho morto no meu colo.
- 21
Quando me levantei de manhã para amamentar o meu filho, eis que ele estava morto; mas quando olhei para ele de manhã, eis que não era o meu filho, que eu havia dado à luz.”

A outra mulher disse: “Não! O vivo é o meu filho, e o morto é o seu filho.” A primeira disse: “Não! O morto é o seu filho, e o vivo é o meu filho.” Elas discutiam assim diante do rei.

Então o rei disse: “Uma diz: 'Este é o meu filho que está vivo, e o seu filho é o morto'; e a outra diz: 'Não! O seu filho é o morto, e o meu filho é o vivo'.”

O rei disse: “Tragam-me uma espada.” Então trouxeram uma espada diante do rei.
- 25
O rei disse: “Dividam o menino vivo em dois, e deem metade a uma, e metade à outra.”
- 26
Então a mulher de quem era o menino vivo falou ao rei, pois o seu coração ansiava pelo seu filho, e ela disse: “Ah, meu senhor, dê a ela o menino vivo, e de modo nenhum o mate!” Mas a outra disse: “Ele não será nem meu nem seu. Dividam-no.”

Então o rei respondeu: “Deem à primeira mulher o menino vivo, e definitivamente não o matem. Ela é a mãe dele.”

Todo o Israel ouviu falar do julgamento que o rei havia proferido; e temeram o rei, pois viram que a sabedoria de Deus estava nele para fazer justiça.

Solomon made a marriage alliance with Pharaoh king of Egypt. He took Pharaoh’s daughter and brought her into David’s city until he had finished building his own house, the LORD’s house, and the wall around Jerusalem.

However, the people sacrificed in the high places, because there was not yet a house built for the LORD’s name.

Solomon loved the LORD, walking in the statutes of David his father, except that he sacrificed and burned incense in the high places.
- 4
The king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there, for that was the great high place. Solomon offered a thousand burnt offerings on that altar.
- 5
In Gibeon, the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream by night; and God said, “Ask for what I should give you.”
- 6
Solomon said, “You have shown to your servant David my father great loving kindness, because he walked before you in truth, in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with you. You have kept for him this great loving kindness, that you have given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is today.

Now, LORD my God, you have made your servant king instead of David my father. I am just a little child. I don’t know how to go out or come in.

Your servant is among your people which you have chosen, a great people, that can’t be numbered or counted for multitude.
- 9
Give your servant therefore an understanding heart to judge your people, that I may discern between good and evil; for who is able to judge this great people of yours?”

This request pleased the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing.
- 11
God said to him, “Because you have asked this thing, and have not asked for yourself long life, nor have you asked for riches for yourself, nor have you asked for the life of your enemies, but have asked for yourself understanding to discern justice,
- 12
behold, I have done according to your word. Behold, I have given you a wise and understanding heart, so that there has been no one like you before you, and after you none will arise like you.

I have also given you that which you have not asked, both riches and honor, so that there will not be any among the kings like you for all your days.
- 14
If you will walk in my ways, to keep my statutes and my commandments, as your father David walked, then I will lengthen your days.”
- 15
Solomon awoke; and behold, it was a dream. Then he came to Jerusalem and stood before the ark of the LORD’s covenant, and offered up burnt offerings, offered peace offerings, and made a feast for all his servants.

Then two women who were prostitutes came to the king, and stood before him.
- 17
The one woman said, “Oh, my lord, I and this woman dwell in one house. I delivered a child with her in the house.
- 18
The third day after I delivered, this woman delivered also. We were together. There was no stranger with us in the house, just us two in the house.
- 19
This woman’s child died in the night, because she lay on it.
- 20
She arose at midnight, and took my son from beside me while your servant slept, and laid it in her bosom, and laid her dead child in my bosom.
- 21
When I rose in the morning to nurse my child, behold, he was dead; but when I had looked at him in the morning, behold, it was not my son whom I bore.”

The other woman said, “No! But the living one is my son, and the dead one is your son.” The first one said, “No! But the dead one is your son, and the living one is my son.” They argued like this before the king.

Then the king said, “One says, ‘This is my son who lives, and your son is the dead one;’ and the other says, ‘No! But your son is the dead one, and my son is the living one.’”

The king said, “Get me a sword.” So they brought a sword before the king.
- 25
The king said, “Divide the living child in two, and give half to the one, and half to the other.”
- 26
Then the woman whose the living child was spoke to the king, for her heart yearned over her son, and she said, “Oh, my lord, give her the living child, and in no way kill him!” But the other said, “He shall be neither mine nor yours. Divide him.”

Then the king answered, “Give the first woman the living child, and definitely do not kill him. She is his mother.”
- 28
All Israel heard of the judgment which the king had judged; and they feared the king, for they saw that the wisdom of God was in him to do justice.
