Josias celebrou a Páscoa ao SENHOR em Jerusalém. Eles mataram o cordeiro da Páscoa no décimo quarto dia do primeiro mês.

Ele estabeleceu os sacerdotes em seus cargos e os encorajou no serviço da casa do SENHOR.

Ele disse aos levitas que ensinavam a todo o Israel e que eram santos ao SENHOR: “Coloquem a arca santa na casa que Salomão, filho de Davi, rei de Israel, construiu. Ela não será mais um peso sobre os seus ombros. Agora sirvam ao SENHOR, seu Deus, e ao seu povo Israel.

Preparem-se segundo as suas casas paternas, por suas divisões, de acordo com o que escreveu Davi, rei de Israel, e de acordo com o que escreveu Salomão, seu filho.

Fiquem no lugar santo de acordo com as divisões das casas paternas de seus irmãos, os filhos do povo, e que haja para cada um uma porção de uma casa paterna dos levitas.

Matem o cordeiro da Páscoa, santifiquem-se e preparem-no para os seus irmãos, para fazerem de acordo com a palavra do SENHOR por meio de Moisés.”

Josias deu aos filhos do povo, do rebanho, cordeiros e cabritos, todos eles para as ofertas da Páscoa, a todos os que estavam presentes, no total de trinta mil, e três mil novilhos. Estes eram dos bens do rei.

Seus líderes deram uma oferta voluntária ao povo, aos sacerdotes e aos levitas. Hilquias, Zacarias e Jeiel, os governantes da casa de Deus, deram aos sacerdotes, para as ofertas da Páscoa, dois mil e seiscentos animais do rebanho miúdo e trezentas cabeças de gado.

Conanias também, e Semaías e Natanael, seus irmãos, e Hasabias, Jeiel e Jozabade, os chefes dos levitas, deram aos levitas, para as ofertas da Páscoa, cinco mil animais do rebanho miúdo e quinhentas cabeças de gado.

Assim o serviço foi preparado, e os sacerdotes ficaram em seus lugares, e os levitas em suas divisões, de acordo com a ordem do rei.

Eles mataram os cordeiros da Páscoa, e os sacerdotes aspergiram o sangue que receberam das mãos deles, e os levitas os esfolaram.

Eles retiraram os holocaustos, para que pudessem distribuí-los de acordo com as divisões das casas paternas dos filhos do povo, para oferecerem ao SENHOR, como está escrito no livro de Moisés. Eles fizeram o mesmo com o gado.

Eles assaram a Páscoa no fogo, de acordo com a ordenança. Eles cozinharam as ofertas santas em panelas, em caldeirões e em frigideiras, e as levaram rapidamente a todos os filhos do povo.

Depois, eles prepararam para si mesmos e para os sacerdotes, porque os sacerdotes, os filhos de Arão, estavam ocupados oferecendo os holocaustos e a gordura até a noite. Portanto, os levitas prepararam para si mesmos e para os sacerdotes, os filhos de Arão.

Os cantores, os filhos de Asafe, estavam em seus lugares, de acordo com o mandamento de Davi, Asafe, Hemã e Jedutum, o vidente do rei; e os porteiros estavam em cada porta. Eles não precisaram se afastar de seu serviço, porque seus irmãos, os levitas, prepararam para eles.

Assim, todo o serviço do SENHOR foi preparado no mesmo dia, para celebrar a Páscoa e para oferecer holocaustos no altar do SENHOR, de acordo com a ordem do rei Josias.

Os filhos de Israel que estavam presentes celebraram a Páscoa naquele tempo, e a festa dos pães asmos por sete dias.

Não houve nenhuma Páscoa como essa celebrada em Israel desde os dias do profeta Samuel, nem nenhum dos reis de Israel celebrou uma Páscoa como a que Josias celebrou — com os sacerdotes, os levitas e todo o Judá e Israel que estavam presentes, e os habitantes de Jerusalém.

Esta Páscoa foi celebrada no décimo oitavo ano do reinado de Josias.

Depois de tudo isso, quando Josias havia preparado o templo, Neco, rei do Egito, subiu para lutar contra Carquemis, junto ao Eufrates, e Josias saiu contra ele.

Mas ele lhe enviou embaixadores, dizendo: “O que eu tenho a ver com você, rei de Judá? Eu não venho contra você hoje, mas contra a casa com a qual estou em guerra. Deus me ordenou que me apressasse. Cuidado, pois é Deus quem está comigo, para que ele não o destrua.”

No entanto, Josias não quis desviar o seu rosto dele, mas disfarçou-se, para poder lutar com ele, e não deu ouvidos às palavras de Neco, que vieram da boca de Deus, e foi lutar no vale de Megido.

Os arqueiros atiraram no rei Josias; e o rei disse aos seus servos: “Tirem-me daqui, porque estou gravemente ferido!”

Então seus servos o tiraram do carro, e o colocaram no segundo carro que ele tinha, e o levaram para Jerusalém; e ele morreu, e foi sepultado nos túmulos de seus pais. Todo o Judá e Jerusalém lamentaram por Josias.

Jeremias lamentou por Josias, e todos os cantores e cantoras falaram de Josias em suas lamentações até o dia de hoje; e eles fizeram disso uma ordenança em Israel. Eis que estão escritas nas lamentações.

Ora, o restante dos atos de Josias e as suas boas obras, de acordo com o que está escrito na lei do SENHOR,

e os seus atos, do primeiro ao último, eis que estão escritos no livro dos reis de Israel e de Judá.

Josiah kept a Passover to the LORD in Jerusalem. They killed the Passover on the fourteenth day of the first month.

He set the priests in their offices and encouraged them in the service of the LORD’s house.
- 3
He said to the Levites who taught all Israel, who were holy to the LORD, “Put the holy ark in the house which Solomon the son of David king of Israel built. It will no longer be a burden on your shoulders. Now serve the LORD your God and his people Israel.

Prepare yourselves after your fathers’ houses by your divisions, according to the writing of David king of Israel, and according to the writing of Solomon his son.
- 5
Stand in the holy place according to the divisions of the fathers’ houses of your brothers the children of the people, and let there be for each a portion of a fathers’ house of the Levites.
- 6
Kill the Passover lamb, sanctify yourselves, and prepare for your brothers, to do according to the LORD’s word by Moses.”
- 7
Josiah gave to the children of the people, of the flock, lambs and young goats, all of them for the Passover offerings, to all who were present, to the number of thirty thousand, and three thousand bulls. These were of the king’s substance.

His princes gave a free will offering to the people, to the priests, and to the Levites. Hilkiah, Zechariah, and Jehiel, the rulers of God’s house, gave to the priests for the Passover offerings two thousand six hundred small livestock, and three hundred head of cattle.

Conaniah also, and Shemaiah and Nethanel, his brothers, and Hashabiah, Jeiel, and Jozabad, the chiefs of the Levites, gave to the Levites for the Passover offerings five thousand small livestock and five hundred head of cattle.

So the service was prepared, and the priests stood in their place, and the Levites by their divisions, according to the king’s commandment.

They killed the Passover lambs, and the priests sprinkled the blood which they received from their hands, and the Levites skinned them.

They removed the burnt offerings, that they might give them according to the divisions of the fathers’ houses of the children of the people, to offer to the LORD, as it is written in the book of Moses. They did the same with the cattle.
- 13
They roasted the Passover with fire according to the ordinance. They boiled the holy offerings in pots, in cauldrons, and in pans, and carried them quickly to all the children of the people.
- 14
Afterward they prepared for themselves and for the priests, because the priests the sons of Aaron were busy with offering the burnt offerings and the fat until night. Therefore the Levites prepared for themselves and for the priests the sons of Aaron.

The singers, the sons of Asaph, were in their place, according to the commandment of David, Asaph, Heman, and Jeduthun the king’s seer; and the gatekeepers were at every gate. They didn’t need to depart from their service, because their brothers the Levites prepared for them.

So all the service of the LORD was prepared the same day, to keep the Passover, and to offer burnt offerings on the LORD’s altar, according to the commandment of King Josiah.

The children of Israel who were present kept the Passover at that time, and the feast of unleavened bread seven days.
- 18
There was no Passover like that kept in Israel from the days of Samuel the prophet, nor did any of the kings of Israel keep such a Passover as Josiah kept—with the priests, the Levites, and all Judah and Israel who were present, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

This Passover was kept in the eighteenth year of the reign of Josiah.

After all this, when Josiah had prepared the temple, Neco king of Egypt went up to fight against Carchemish by the Euphrates, and Josiah went out against him.

But he sent ambassadors to him, saying, “What have I to do with you, you king of Judah? I come not against you today, but against the house with which I have war. God has commanded me to make haste. Beware that it is God who is with me, that he not destroy you.”

Nevertheless Josiah would not turn his face from him, but disguised himself, that he might fight with him, and didn’t listen to the words of Neco from the mouth of God, and came to fight in the valley of Megiddo.

The archers shot at King Josiah; and the king said to his servants, “Take me away, because I am seriously wounded!”
- 24
So his servants took him out of the chariot, and put him in the second chariot that he had, and brought him to Jerusalem; and he died, and was buried in the tombs of his fathers. All Judah and Jerusalem mourned for Josiah.
- 25
Jeremiah lamented for Josiah, and all the singing men and singing women spoke of Josiah in their lamentations to this day; and they made them an ordinance in Israel. Behold, they are written in the lamentations.

Now the rest of the acts of Josiah and his good deeds, according to that which is written in the LORD’s law,
- 27
and his acts, first and last, behold, they are written in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah.
