Atos 2

No Pentecostes um estrondo como de vento impetuoso enche a casa, línguas de fogo pousam sobre cada discípulo, e eles falam em idiomas que os peregrinos reconhecem como seus. Lucas enumera as nações — de partos a cretenses e árabes — para deixar clara a reversão das línguas dispersas. Os que zombam falam em "vinho novo"; Pedro responde com Joel e dois Salmos. Repare como o discurso passa de explicar o prodígio a interpelar e a convidar a multidão.

Ao chegar o dia de Pentecostes, estavam todos unânimes no mesmo lugar.
2
De repente, veio do céu um som, como de um vento impetuoso, e encheu toda a casa onde estavam assentados.

Apareceram-lhes línguas como de fogo, que foram distribuídas a eles, e uma pousou sobre cada um deles.
4
Todos ficaram cheios do Espírito Santo e começaram a falar em outras línguas, conforme o Espírito lhes concedia que falassem.
5
Ora, habitavam em Jerusalém judeus, homens piedosos, de todas as nações debaixo do céu.
6
Quando se ouviu este som, a multidão se ajuntou e ficou perplexa, porque cada um os ouvia falar na sua própria língua.
7
Todos estavam maravilhados e perplexos, dizendo uns aos outros: “Eis que não são galileus todos estes que estão falando?
8
Como é que os ouvimos, cada um na nossa própria língua materna?
9
Partos, medos, elamitas, e os habitantes da Mesopotâmia, Judeia, Capadócia, Ponto, Ásia,
10
Frígia, Panfília, Egito, as partes da Líbia próximas a Cirene, visitantes de Roma, tanto judeus como prosélitos,
11
cretenses e árabes — nós os ouvimos falar em nossas línguas as obras maravilhosas de Deus!”

Todos estavam maravilhados e perplexos, dizendo uns aos outros: “O que significa isto?”
13
Outros, zombando, diziam: “Eles estão cheios de vinho novo.”
14
Mas Pedro, levantando-se com os onze, ergueu a voz e lhes falou: “Homens da Judeia e todos vocês que habitam em Jerusalém, seja-lhes isto conhecido, e escutem as minhas palavras.
15
Pois estes não estão bêbados, como vocês supõem, visto que é apenas a terceira hora do dia.
16
Mas isto é o que foi dito pelo profeta Joel:
17
‘Acontecerá nos últimos dias, diz Deus, que derramarei do meu Espírito sobre toda a carne. Os seus filhos e as suas filhas profetizarão. Os seus jovens terão visões. Os seus velhos sonharão sonhos.
18
Sim, e sobre os meus servos e sobre as minhas servas naqueles dias, derramarei do meu Espírito, e eles profetizarão.
19
Mostrarei maravilhas no céu em cima, e sinais na terra embaixo: sangue, fogo e nuvens de fumaça.
20
O sol se converterá em trevas, e a lua em sangue, antes que venha o grande e glorioso dia do Senhor.
21
E acontecerá que todo aquele que invocar o nome do Senhor será salvo.’
22
“Homens de Israel, ouçam estas palavras! Jesus de Nazaré, homem aprovado por Deus diante de vocês com milagres, maravilhas e sinais, que Deus fez por meio dele entre vocês, como vocês mesmos sabem;
23
a este, sendo entregue pelo determinado conselho e presciência de Deus, vocês tomaram pelas mãos de homens iníquos, crucificaram e mataram;
24
ao qual Deus ressuscitou, libertando-o da agonia da morte, porque não era possível que fosse retido por ela.
25
Pois Davi diz a respeito dele: ‘Eu via sempre o Senhor diante da minha face, pois ele está à minha direita, para que eu não seja abalado.
26
Por isso o meu coração se alegrou, e a minha língua exultou. Além disso, a minha carne também repousará em esperança,
27
porque não deixarás a minha alma no Hades, nem permitirás que o teu Santo veja a corrupção.
28
Tu me fizeste conhecer os caminhos da vida. Tu me encherás de alegria com a tua presença.’
29
“Irmãos, posso dizer-lhes livremente a respeito do patriarca Davi, que ele morreu e foi sepultado, e o seu túmulo está entre nós até o dia de hoje.
30
Sendo ele, pois, profeta, e sabendo que Deus lhe havia jurado com juramento que do fruto do seu corpo, segundo a carne, levantaria o Cristo para se assentar no seu trono,
31
ele, prevendo isto, falou a respeito da ressurreição do Cristo, que a sua alma não foi deixada no Hades, e a sua carne não viu a corrupção.
32
A este Jesus, Deus ressuscitou, do que todos nós somos testemunhas.
33
Sendo, portanto, exaltado à destra de Deus, e tendo recebido do Pai a promessa do Espírito Santo, ele derramou isto que vocês agora veem e ouvem.
34
Pois Davi não subiu aos céus, mas ele mesmo diz: ‘Disse o Senhor ao meu Senhor: “Assente-se à minha direita,
35
até que eu ponha os seus inimigos por estrado dos seus pés.”’
36
“Saiba, pois, com certeza toda a casa de Israel que a esse Jesus, a quem vocês crucificaram, Deus o fez Senhor e Cristo.”
37
Quando ouviram isso, ficaram compungidos no coração, e perguntaram a Pedro e aos demais apóstolos: “Irmãos, o que faremos?”
38
Pedro lhes respondeu: “Arrependam-se, e cada um de vocês seja batizado em nome de Jesus Cristo para o perdão dos pecados, e receberão o dom do Espírito Santo.
39
Pois a promessa é para vocês e para os seus filhos, e para todos os que estão longe, para tantos quantos o Senhor nosso Deus chamar para si.”
40
Com muitas outras palavras ele testemunhava e os exortava, dizendo: “Salvem-se desta geração perversa!”
41
Então, os que de bom grado receberam a sua palavra foram batizados. Naquele dia, foram acrescentadas cerca de três mil almas.
42
E perseveravam na doutrina dos apóstolos e na comunhão, no partir do pão e nas orações.
43
Em cada alma havia temor, e muitas maravilhas e sinais eram feitos por meio dos apóstolos.
44
Todos os que criam estavam juntos e tinham tudo em comum.
45
Vendiam as suas propriedades e bens, e os distribuíam a todos, à medida que alguém tinha necessidade.
46
Diariamente, perseverando unânimes no templo, e partindo o pão de casa em casa, tomavam as suas refeições com alegria e singeleza de coração,
47
louvando a Deus e tendo a simpatia de todo o povo. E o Senhor acrescentava à igreja, dia a dia, os que iam sendo salvos.

Now when the day of Pentecost had come, they were all with one accord in one place.
2
Suddenly there came from the sky a sound like the rushing of a mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.

Tongues like fire appeared and were distributed to them, and one sat on each of them.
4
They were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other languages, as the Spirit gave them the ability to speak.
5
Now there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men, from every nation under the sky.
6
When this sound was heard, the multitude came together and were bewildered, because everyone heard them speaking in his own language.
7
They were all amazed and marveled, saying to one another, “Behold, aren’t all these who speak Galileans?
8
How do we hear, everyone in our own native language?
9
Parthians, Medes, Elamites, and people from Mesopotamia, Judea, Cappadocia, Pontus, Asia,
10
Phrygia, Pamphylia, Egypt, the parts of Libya around Cyrene, visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes,
11
Cretans and Arabians—we hear them speaking in our languages the mighty works of God!”
12
They were all amazed and were perplexed, saying to one another, “What does this mean?”
13
Others, mocking, said, “They are filled with new wine.”
14
But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice and spoke out to them, “You men of Judea and all you who dwell at Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and listen to my words.
15
For these aren’t drunken, as you suppose, seeing it is only the third hour of the day.
16
But this is what has been spoken through the prophet Joel:
17
‘It will be in the last days, says God, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh. Your sons and your daughters will prophesy. Your young men will see visions. Your old men will dream dreams.
18
Yes, and on my servants and on my handmaidens in those days, I will pour out my Spirit, and they will prophesy.
19
I will show wonders in the sky above, and signs on the earth beneath: blood, and fire, and billows of smoke.
20
The sun will be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and glorious day of the Lord comes.
21
It will be that whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved.’
22
“Men of Israel, hear these words! Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved by God to you by mighty works and wonders and signs which God did by him among you, even as you yourselves know,
23
him, being delivered up by the determined counsel and foreknowledge of God, you have taken by the hand of lawless men, crucified and killed;
24
whom God raised up, having freed him from the agony of death, because it was not possible that he should be held by it.
25
For David says concerning him, ‘I saw the Lord always before my face, for he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved.
26
Therefore my heart was glad, and my tongue rejoiced. Moreover my flesh also will dwell in hope,
27
because you will not leave my soul in Hades, neither will you allow your Holy One to see decay.
28
You made known to me the ways of life. You will make me full of gladness with your presence.’
29
“Brothers, I may tell you freely of the patriarch David, that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day.
30
Therefore, being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him that of the fruit of his body, according to the flesh, he would raise up the Christ to sit on his throne,
31
he foreseeing this, spoke about the resurrection of the Christ, that his soul wasn’t left in Hades, and his flesh didn’t see decay.
32
This Jesus God raised up, to which we all are witnesses.
33
Being therefore exalted by the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he has poured out this which you now see and hear.
34
For David didn’t ascend into the heavens, but he says himself, ‘The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit by my right hand
35
until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.”’
36
“Let all the house of Israel therefore know certainly that God has made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you crucified.”
37
Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?”
38
Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
39
For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are far off, even as many as the Lord our God will call to himself.”
40
With many other words he testified and exhorted them, saying, “Save yourselves from this crooked generation!”
41
Then those who gladly received his word were baptized. There were added that day about three thousand souls.
42
They continued steadfastly in the apostles’ teaching and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and prayer.
43
Fear came on every soul, and many wonders and signs were done through the apostles.
44
All who believed were together, and had all things in common.
45
They sold their possessions and goods, and distributed them to all, according as anyone had need.
46
Day by day, continuing steadfastly with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread at home, they took their food with gladness and singleness of heart,
47
praising God and having favor with all the people. The Lord added to the assembly day by day those who were being saved.

Dos três mil à mesa partilhada

Compungidos no coração, os ouvintes perguntam o que hão de fazer; Pedro responde-lhes "Arrependei-vos e sede batizados", e cerca de três mil são acrescentados num só dia. O argumento assenta no facto de o túmulo de David continuar conhecido em Jerusalém: David morreu, logo o Salmo sobre não ver corrupção aponta para além dele, para o Cristo ressuscitado.

Lucas esboça então a primeira comunidade: ensino, comunhão, o partir do pão, oração e bens em comum. O capítulo passa do espetáculo a um padrão diário de vida.
