Lembre-se também de seu Criador nos dias de sua juventude, antes que os dias maus cheguem, e os anos se aproximem, quando você dirá: “Eu não tenho prazer neles”.

Antes do sol, a luz, a lua e as estrelas são escurecidas, e as nuvens retornam após a chuva;
- 3
no dia em que os zeladores da casa tremerão, e os homens fortes devem se curvar, e os moinhos param porque são poucos, e aqueles que olham para fora das janelas ficam escuros,
- 4
e as portas devem ser fechadas na rua; quando o som da trituração é baixo, e se levantará à voz de um pássaro, e todas as filhas da música devem ser trazidas para baixo;
- 5
sim, eles devem ter medo das alturas, e terrores estarão a caminho; e a amendoeira deve florescer, e o gafanhoto deve ser um fardo, e o desejo deve falhar; porque o homem vai para sua casa eterna, e as carpideiras andam pelas ruas;

antes que o cordão prateado seja cortado, ou a tigela dourada está quebrada, ou o jarro está quebrado na primavera, ou a roda quebrada na cisterna,

e a poeira retorna à terra como estava, e o espírito retorna a Deus que o deu.

“Vaidade das vaidades”, diz o pregador. “Tudo é vaidade!”

Além disso, porque o Pregador era sábio, ele ainda ensinava o conhecimento do povo. Sim, ele ponderou, procurou e pôs em ordem muitos provérbios.

O Pregador procurou encontrar palavras aceitáveis, e o que foi escrito sem culpa, palavras de verdade.

As palavras dos sábios são como goads; e como pregos bem apertados são palavras dos mestres das assembléias, que são dadas por um só pastor.

Furthermore, meu filho, seja admoestado: de fazer muitos livros não há fim; e muito estudo é um cansaço da carne.

Este é o fim da questão. Tudo já foi ouvido. Temam a Deus e guardam seus mandamentos; pois este é todo o dever do homem.

Pois Deus levará cada obra a julgamento, com cada coisa oculta, seja ela boa, seja má.

Remember also your Creator in the days of your youth, before the evil days come, and the years draw near, when you will say, “I have no pleasure in them;”

Before the sun, the light, the moon, and the stars are darkened, and the clouds return after the rain;

in the day when the keepers of the house shall tremble, and the strong men shall bow themselves, and the grinders cease because they are few, and those who look out of the windows are darkened,

and the doors shall be shut in the street; when the sound of the grinding is low, and one shall rise up at the voice of a bird, and all the daughters of music shall be brought low;

yes, they shall be afraid of heights, and terrors will be on the way; and the almond tree shall blossom, and the grasshopper shall be a burden, and desire shall fail; because man goes to his everlasting home, and the mourners go about the streets;

before the silver cord is severed, or the golden bowl is broken, or the pitcher is broken at the spring, or the wheel broken at the cistern,
- 7
and the dust returns to the earth as it was, and the spirit returns to God who gave it.

“Vanity of vanities,” says the Preacher. “All is vanity!”

Further, because the Preacher was wise, he still taught the people knowledge. Yes, he pondered, sought out, and set in order many proverbs.

The Preacher sought to find out acceptable words, and that which was written blamelessly, words of truth.
- 11
The words of the wise are like goads; and like nails well fastened are words from the masters of assemblies, which are given from one shepherd.
- 12
Furthermore, my son, be admonished: of making many books there is no end; and much study is a weariness of the flesh.
- 13
This is the end of the matter. All has been heard. Fear God and keep his commandments; for this is the whole duty of man.
- 14
For God will bring every work into judgment, with every hidden thing, whether it is good, or whether it is evil.
