Ora, no terceiro dia, Ester vestiu seus trajes reais e ficou no pátio interno do palácio do rei, em frente ao palácio do rei. O rei estava assentado em seu trono real no palácio real, de frente para a entrada do palácio.

Quando o rei viu a rainha Ester em pé no pátio, ela alcançou favor diante dele; e o rei estendeu para Ester o cetro de ouro que estava em sua mão. Então Ester se aproximou e tocou a ponta do cetro.

Então o rei lhe perguntou: “O que você deseja, rainha Ester? Qual é o seu pedido? Lhe será concedido, até mesmo a metade do reino.”

Ester disse: “Se parecer bem ao rei, venham hoje o rei e Hamã ao banquete que preparei para ele.”
- 5
Então o rei disse: “Tragam Hamã depressa, para que se faça o que Ester pediu.” Assim, o rei e Hamã foram ao banquete que Ester havia preparado.

Durante o banquete de vinho, o rei disse a Ester: “Qual é a sua petição? Ela lhe será concedida. Qual é o seu pedido? Mesmo que seja a metade do reino, será atendido.”

Então Ester respondeu e disse: “Minha petição e meu pedido são estes:

Se achei favor aos olhos do rei, e se for do agrado do rei conceder a minha petição e atender ao meu pedido, que o rei e Hamã venham ao banquete que prepararei para eles, e amanhã farei como o rei disse.”

Então Hamã saiu naquele dia alegre e de bom humor; mas, quando Hamã viu Mardoqueu à porta do rei, e que ele não se levantou nem se moveu diante dele, encheu-se de ira contra Mardoqueu.

Contudo, Hamã se conteve e foi para casa. Lá, ele mandou chamar seus amigos e Zeres, sua mulher.

Hamã lhes contou sobre a glória de suas riquezas, a multidão de seus filhos, todas as coisas em que o rei o havia promovido, e como o havia exaltado acima dos príncipes e servos do rei.

Hamã também disse: “Além disso, a rainha Ester não permitiu que ninguém entrasse com o rei no banquete que ela havia preparado, a não ser eu; e amanhã também estou convidado por ela, junto com o rei.

Porém, tudo isso de nada me vale, enquanto eu vir o judeu Mardoqueu sentado à porta do rei.”

Então Zeres, sua mulher, e todos os seus amigos lhe disseram: “Mande fazer uma forca de cinquenta côvados de altura, e pela manhã fale com o rei para que Mardoqueu seja enforcado nela. Depois, vá alegremente com o rei ao banquete.” Isso agradou a Hamã, e ele mandou fazer a forca.

Now on the third day, Esther put on her royal clothing and stood in the inner court of the king’s house, next to the king’s house. The king sat on his royal throne in the royal house, next to the entrance of the house.

When the king saw Esther the queen standing in the court, she obtained favor in his sight; and the king held out to Esther the golden scepter that was in his hand. So Esther came near and touched the top of the scepter.

Then the king asked her, “What would you like, queen Esther? What is your request? It shall be given you even to the half of the kingdom.”

Esther said, “If it seems good to the king, let the king and Haman come today to the banquet that I have prepared for him.”
- 5
Then the king said, “Bring Haman quickly, so that it may be done as Esther has said.” So the king and Haman came to the banquet that Esther had prepared.

The king said to Esther at the banquet of wine, “What is your petition? It shall be granted you. What is your request? Even to the half of the kingdom it shall be performed.”

Then Esther answered and said, “My petition and my request is this.
- 8
If I have found favor in the sight of the king, and if it pleases the king to grant my petition and to perform my request, let the king and Haman come to the banquet that I will prepare for them, and I will do tomorrow as the king has said.”

Then Haman went out that day joyful and glad of heart, but when Haman saw Mordecai in the king’s gate, that he didn’t stand up nor move for him, he was filled with wrath against Mordecai.

Nevertheless Haman restrained himself, and went home. There, he sent and called for his friends and Zeresh his wife.

Haman recounted to them the glory of his riches, the multitude of his children, all the things in which the king had promoted him, and how he had advanced him above the princes and servants of the king.

Haman also said, “Yes, Esther the queen let no man come in with the king to the banquet that she had prepared but myself; and tomorrow I am also invited by her together with the king.

Yet all this avails me nothing, so long as I see Mordecai the Jew sitting at the king’s gate.”
- 14
Then Zeresh his wife and all his friends said to him, “Let a gallows be made fifty cubits high, and in the morning speak to the king about hanging Mordecai on it. Then go in merrily with the king to the banquet.” This pleased Haman, so he had the gallows made.
