Salmos 107
O salmo que abre o Livro Quinto reúne os remidos de cada direcção e percorre quatro quadros de resgate: os que vagueiam perdidos no deserto, os presos em trevas e ferro, os néscios doentes pela própria loucura, e os marinheiros na tempestade. Cada grupo clama e é livrado. Ao ler, repare nas duas linhas repetidas que organizam o poema: clamaram ao Senhor na sua angústia, e o apelo a louvá-lo pela sua misericórdia.

Deem graças ao SENHOR, porque ele é bom, porque o seu amor leal dura para sempre.

Digam-no os redimidos pelo SENHOR, os quais ele redimiu da mão do adversário,
- 3
e congregou das terras, do oriente e do ocidente, do norte e do sul.

Eles vagaram pelo deserto, por um caminho solitário. Não encontraram cidade para habitar.
- 5
Famintos e sedentos, a alma deles desfalecia neles.
- 6
Então clamaram ao SENHOR em sua angústia, e ele os livrou das suas aflições.

Ele também os conduziu por um caminho reto, para que fossem a uma cidade para habitar.

Que eles louvem ao SENHOR pelo seu amor leal, por suas maravilhas para com os filhos dos homens!

Pois ele satisfaz a alma anelante. Ele enche de bens a alma faminta.
- 10
Alguns se assentaram nas trevas e na sombra da morte, presos em aflição e em ferros,
- 11
porque se rebelaram contra as palavras de Deus, e desprezaram o conselho do Altíssimo.
- 12
Portanto, ele abateu o coração deles com trabalho árduo. Eles caíram, e não havia ninguém para ajudar.
- 13
Então clamaram ao SENHOR em sua angústia, e ele os salvou das suas aflições.
- 14
Ele os tirou das trevas e da sombra da morte, e quebrou as suas correntes.
- 15
Que eles louvem ao SENHOR pelo seu amor leal, por suas maravilhas para com os filhos dos homens!
- 16
Pois ele quebrou as portas de bronze, e despedaçou as trancas de ferro.
- 17
Os tolos são afligidos por causa da sua desobediência, e por causa das suas iniquidades.
- 18
A alma deles abomina todo tipo de comida. Eles se aproximam das portas da morte.
- 19
Então clamam ao SENHOR em sua angústia, e ele os salva das suas aflições.
- 20
Ele envia a sua palavra, e os cura, e os livra das suas sepulturas.
- 21
Que eles louvem ao SENHOR pelo seu amor leal, por suas maravilhas para com os filhos dos homens!

Que eles ofereçam os sacrifícios de ação de graças, e declarem as suas obras com cânticos de alegria.
- 23
Aqueles que descem ao mar em navios, que fazem negócios nas grandes águas,
- 24
estes veem as obras do SENHOR, e as suas maravilhas nas profundezas.
- 25
Pois ele ordena, e levanta o vento tempestuoso, que eleva as suas ondas.
- 26
Eles sobem aos céus; descem novamente às profundezas. A alma deles se derrete por causa da aflição.
- 27
Eles cambaleiam de um lado para o outro, e tropeçam como um homem bêbado, e ficam sem saber o que fazer.
- 28
Então clamam ao SENHOR em sua angústia, e ele os tira da sua aflição.
- 29
Ele transforma a tempestade em calmaria, de modo que as suas ondas se aquietam.
- 30
Então eles se alegram porque há calmaria, e assim ele os leva ao porto desejado.
- 31
Que eles louvem ao SENHOR pelo seu amor leal, por suas maravilhas para com os filhos dos homens!

Que eles também o exaltem na assembleia do povo, e o louvem no assento dos anciãos.
- 33
Ele transforma rios em deserto, fontes de água em terra sedenta,
- 34
e uma terra frutífera em um deserto de sal, por causa da maldade dos que nela habitam.
- 35
Ele transforma um deserto em um lago de água, e uma terra seca em fontes de água.
- 36
Ali ele faz habitar os famintos, para que preparem uma cidade para habitar,
- 37
semeiem campos, plantem vinhas, e colham os frutos da colheita.
- 38
Ele também os abençoa, de modo que se multiplicam grandemente. Ele não permite que o seu gado diminua.
- 39
Novamente, eles são diminuídos e abatidos pela opressão, aflição e tristeza.
- 40
Ele derrama desprezo sobre os príncipes, e os faz vagar em um deserto sem caminhos.
- 41
Contudo, ele levanta o necessitado da sua aflição, e multiplica as suas famílias como um rebanho.
- 42
Os retos verão isso, e se alegrarão. Todos os ímpios fecharão as suas bocas.
- 43
Quem for sábio prestará atenção a estas coisas. Eles considerarão os atos de amor leal do SENHOR.

Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, for his loving kindness endures forever.

Let the redeemed by the LORD say so, whom he has redeemed from the hand of the adversary,

and gathered out of the lands, from the east and from the west, from the north and from the south.

They wandered in the wilderness in a desert way. They found no city to live in.
- 5
Hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted in them.
- 6
Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them out of their distresses.
- 7
He led them also by a straight way, that they might go to a city to live in.
- 8
Let them praise the LORD for his loving kindness, for his wonderful deeds to the children of men!

For he satisfies the longing soul. He fills the hungry soul with good.
- 10
Some sat in darkness and in the shadow of death, being bound in affliction and iron,
- 11
because they rebelled against the words of God, and condemned the counsel of the Most High.
- 12
Therefore he brought down their heart with labor. They fell down, and there was no one to help.
- 13
Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he saved them out of their distresses.
- 14
He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death, and broke away their chains.
- 15
Let them praise the LORD for his loving kindness, for his wonderful deeds to the children of men!
- 16
For he has broken the gates of bronze, and cut through bars of iron.
- 17
Fools are afflicted because of their disobedience, and because of their iniquities.
- 18
Their soul abhors all kinds of food. They draw near to the gates of death.
- 19
Then they cry to the LORD in their trouble, and he saves them out of their distresses.
- 20
He sends his word, and heals them, and delivers them from their graves.
- 21
Let them praise the LORD for his loving kindness, for his wonderful deeds to the children of men!
- 22
Let them offer the sacrifices of thanksgiving, and declare his deeds with singing.
- 23
Those who go down to the sea in ships, who do business in great waters,
- 24
these see the LORD’s deeds, and his wonders in the deep.
- 25
For he commands, and raises the stormy wind, which lifts up its waves.
- 26
They mount up to the sky; they go down again to the depths. Their soul melts away because of trouble.
- 27
They reel back and forth, and stagger like a drunken man, and are at their wits’ end.
- 28
Then they cry to the LORD in their trouble, and he brings them out of their distress.
- 29
He makes the storm a calm, so that its waves are still.
- 30
Then they are glad because it is calm, so he brings them to their desired haven.
- 31
Let them praise the LORD for his loving kindness, for his wonderful deeds for the children of men!
- 32
Let them exalt him also in the assembly of the people, and praise him in the seat of the elders.
- 33
He turns rivers into a desert, water springs into a thirsty ground,
- 34
and a fruitful land into a salt waste, for the wickedness of those who dwell in it.
- 35
He turns a desert into a pool of water, and a dry land into water springs.
- 36
There he makes the hungry live, that they may prepare a city to live in,
- 37
sow fields, plant vineyards, and reap the fruits of increase.
- 38
He blesses them also, so that they are multiplied greatly. He doesn’t allow their livestock to decrease.
- 39
Again, they are diminished and bowed down through oppression, trouble, and sorrow.
- 40
He pours contempt on princes, and causes them to wander in a trackless waste.
- 41
Yet he lifts the needy out of their affliction, and increases their families like a flock.
- 42
The upright will see it, and be glad. All the wicked will shut their mouths.
- 43
Whoever is wise will pay attention to these things. They will consider the loving kindnesses of the LORD.
Uma tempestade respondida com bonança
A cena dos marinheiros (vv. 23-30) é a mais viva: sobem ao céu e descem aos abismos, cambaleando como um ébrio, no limite do seu juízo. Então Deus faz da tempestade uma bonança e leva-os ao porto desejado.
Depois dos quatro resgates, o salmo alarga-se (vv. 33-43): Deus torna rios em deserto e deserto em águas, levanta o necessitado e humilha os príncipes, e termina convidando o sábio a ler estas reviravoltas como registo da sua misericórdia.
