Salmos 135
Um apelo ao louvor montado quase por inteiro a partir de outros salmos e escrituras anteriores. Os servos que estão nos átrios do templo são instados a louvar o SENHOR porque ele escolheu Jacob, governa o clima e agiu na história — ferindo os primogénitos do Egipto e derrotando Seom e Ogue. A meio, volta-se para os ídolos das nações: prata e ouro com boca que não fala e olhos que não veem. Repare-se no aguilhão do versículo 18.

Louvem o SENHOR! Louvem o nome do SENHOR ! Louvem-no, vocês, servos do SENHOR,

vocês que estão na casa do SENHOR, nos átrios da casa do nosso Deus.

Louvem o SENHOR, pois o SENHOR é bom. Cantem louvores ao seu nome, pois isso é agradável.
- 4
Pois o SENHOR escolheu Jacó para si mesmo, Israel para sua própria possessão.
- 5
Pois eu sei que o SENHOR é grande, que o nosso Senhor está acima de todos os deuses.
- 6
Tudo o que agradou ao SENHOR, ele fez, nos céus e na terra, nos mares e em todas as profundezas.

Ele faz as nuvens subirem desde os confins da terra. Ele faz relâmpagos com a chuva. Ele tira o vento dos seus tesouros.

Ele feriu os primogênitos do Egito, tanto de homens quanto de animais.

Ele enviou sinais e maravilhas em seu meio, ó Egito, contra o Faraó e contra todos os seus servos.

Ele feriu muitas nações, e matou reis poderosos—

e deu a terra deles como herança, uma herança para Israel, seu povo.

Pois o SENHOR julgará o seu povo e terá compaixão dos seus servos.

Os ídolos das nações são prata e ouro, obra das mãos dos homens.

Têm boca, mas não podem falar. Têm olhos, mas não podem ver.

Têm ouvidos, mas não podem ouvir, nem há fôlego algum em suas bocas.

Aqueles que os fazem serão como eles, sim, todos os que neles confiam.

Casa de Israel, louve o SENHOR! Casa de Arão, louve o SENHOR!

Casa de Levi, louve o SENHOR! Vocês que temem o SENHOR, louvem o SENHOR!

Bendito seja o SENHOR desde Sião, aquele que habita em Jerusalém. Louvem o SENHOR!

Praise the LORD! Praise the LORD’s name! Praise him, you servants of the LORD,

you who stand in the LORD’s house, in the courts of our God’s house.

Praise the LORD, for the LORD is good. Sing praises to his name, for that is pleasant.

For the LORD has chosen Jacob for himself, Israel for his own possession.

For I know that the LORD is great, that our Lord is above all gods.

Whatever the LORD pleased, that he has done, in heaven and in earth, in the seas and in all deeps.

He causes the clouds to rise from the ends of the earth. He makes lightnings with the rain. He brings the wind out of his treasuries.

He struck the firstborn of Egypt, both of man and animal.
- 9
He sent signs and wonders into the middle of you, Egypt, on Pharaoh, and on all his servants.

He struck many nations, and killed mighty kings—
- 11
Sihon king of the Amorites, Og king of Bashan, and all the kingdoms of Canaan—

and gave their land for a heritage, a heritage to Israel, his people.
- 13
Your name, LORD, endures forever; your renown, LORD, throughout all generations.
- 14
For the LORD will judge his people and have compassion on his servants.
- 15
The idols of the nations are silver and gold, the work of men’s hands.
- 16
They have mouths, but they can’t speak. They have eyes, but they can’t see.
- 17
They have ears, but they can’t hear, neither is there any breath in their mouths.
- 18
Those who make them will be like them, yes, everyone who trusts in them.
- 19
House of Israel, praise the LORD! House of Aaron, praise the LORD!
- 20
House of Levi, praise the LORD! You who fear the LORD, praise the LORD!
- 21
Blessed be the LORD from Zion, who dwells in Jerusalem. Praise the LORD!
O Deus vivo perante os ídolos mortos
O contraste é o motor. O SENHOR faz tudo quanto lhe apraz no céu, na terra e nos mares (v. 6); os ídolos nada fazem. Vem então o aviso: quem os fabrica torna-se como eles, tão sem vida quanto a obra das próprias mãos. O remate convoca pelo nome Israel, Arão e Levi a louvar.
