1 Chronicles 3
David finally gets his own register: six sons born in Hebron, then Solomon and his brothers born in Jerusalem, followed by the whole royal succession from Rehoboam down through Hezekiah, Josiah and the exile. The line does not stop at the fall of the kingdom.

Now these were the sons of David, who were born to him in Hebron: the firstborn, Amnon, of Ahinoam the Jezreelitess; the second, Daniel, of Abigail the Carmelitess;

the third, Absalom the son of Maacah the daughter of Talmai king of Geshur; the fourth, Adonijah the son of Haggith;
- 3
the fifth, Shephatiah of Abital; the sixth, Ithream by Eglah his wife:

six were born to him in Hebron; and he reigned there seven years and six months. He reigned thirty-three years in Jerusalem;

and these were born to him in Jerusalem: Shimea, Shobab, Nathan, and Solomon, four, by Bathshua the daughter of Ammiel;

and Ibhar, Elishama, Eliphelet,

Nogah, Nepheg, Japhia,
- 8
Elishama, Eliada, and Eliphelet, nine.

All these were the sons of David, in addition to the sons of the concubines; and Tamar was their sister.

Solomon’s son was Rehoboam, Abijah his son, Asa his son, Jehoshaphat his son,

Joram his son, Ahaziah his son, Joash his son,
- 12
Amaziah his son, Azariah his son, Jotham his son,
- 13
Ahaz his son, Hezekiah his son, Manasseh his son,
- 14
Amon his son, and Josiah his son.

The sons of Josiah: the firstborn Johanan, the second Jehoiakim, the third Zedekiah, and the fourth Shallum.

The sons of Jehoiakim: Jeconiah his son, and Zedekiah his son.
- 17
The sons of Jeconiah, the captive: Shealtiel his son,
- 18
Malchiram, Pedaiah, Shenazzar, Jekamiah, Hoshama, and Nedabiah.

The sons of Pedaiah: Zerubbabel and Shimei. The sons of Zerubbabel: Meshullam and Hananiah; and Shelomith was their sister;
- 20
and Hashubah, Ohel, Berechiah, Hasadiah, and Jushab Hesed, five.
- 21
The sons of Hananiah: Pelatiah and Jeshaiah; the sons of Rephaiah, the sons of Arnan, the sons of Obadiah, the sons of Shecaniah.

The son of Shecaniah: Shemaiah. The sons of Shemaiah: Hattush, Igal, Bariah, Neariah, and Shaphat, six.

The sons of Neariah: Elioenai, Hizkiah, and Azrikam, three.
- 24
The sons of Elioenai: Hodaviah, Eliashib, Pelaiah, Akkub, Johanan, Delaiah, and Anani, seven.

ESTOS son los hijos de David, que le nacieron en Hebrón: Amnón el primogénito, de Achînoam Jezreelita; el segundo, Daniel, de Abigail de Carmelo;

Estos seis le nacieron en Hebrón, donde reinó siete años y seis meses: y en Jerusalem reinó treinta y tres años.

Elisama, Eliada, y Eliphelet.

Todos estos fueron los hijos de David, sin los hijos de las concubinas. Y Thamar fué hermana de ellos.

Hijo de Salomón fué Roboam, cuyo hijo fué Abía, del cual fué hijo Asa, cuyo hijo fué Josaphat;

De quien fué hijo Joram, cuyo hijo fué Ochôzías, hijo del cual fué Joas;

Del cual fué hijo Amasías, cuyo hijo fué Azarías, é hijo de éste Jotham;
- 13
E hijo del cual fué Achâz, del que fué hijo Ezechîas, cuyo hijo fué Manasés;
- 14
Del cual fué hijo Amón, cuyo hijo fué Josías.

Y los hijos de Josías: Johanán su primogénito, el segundo Joacim, el tercero Sedecías, el cuarto Sallum.
- 16
Los hijos de Joacim: Jechônías su hijo, hijo del cual fué Sedecías.
- 17
Y los hijos de Jechônías: Asir, Salathiel,
- 18
Mechiram, Pedaía, Seneaser, y Jecamía, Hosama, y Nedabía.
- 19
Y los hijos de Pedaía: Zorobabel, y Simi. Y los hijos de Zorobabel: Mesullam, Hananías, y Selomith su hermana.
- 20
Y de Mesullam : Hasuba, Ohel, y Berechîas, Hasadía, y Jusabhesed; cinco en todos .
- 21
Los hijos de Hananías: Pelatías, y Jesaías, hijo de Rephaías, hijo de Arnán, hijo de Obdías, hijo de Sechânías.
- 22
Hijo de Sechânías fué Semaías; y los hijos de Semaías: Hattus, Igheal, Barias, Nearías, y Saphat; seis.
- 23
Los hijos de Nearías fueron estos tres: Elioenai, Ezechîas, y Azricam.
- 24
Los hijos de Elioenai fueron estos siete: Odavias, Eliasib, Palaías, Accub, Johanán, Dalaías, y Anani.
A throne that outlives the throne
The chapter's striking move is verse 17 onward: after 'Jeconiah, the captive,' the list keeps going through Shealtiel and Zerubbabel and on to Anani, generations born after the crown was lost. For readers with no king in Jerusalem, the Chronicler quietly insists David's house still has a future to count.
