2 Corinthians 6

Paul presses for the moment: "now is the acceptable time" (v.2), quoting Isaiah to say reconciliation cannot wait. He then lists what his ministry has cost — beatings, imprisonments, sleepless nights — strung together in long paired contrasts: "as dying, and behold—we live." Watch how the tone shifts from defending his record to something tender. He tells the Corinthians their own affections, not he, have made them cramped, then ends with the sharp warning against being "unequally yoked."

Working together, we entreat also that you do not receive the grace of God in vain.

For he says, “At an acceptable time I listened to you. In a day of salvation I helped you.” Behold, now is the acceptable time. Behold, now is the day of salvation.

We give no occasion of stumbling in anything, that our service may not be blamed,

but in everything commending ourselves as servants of God: in great endurance, in afflictions, in hardships, in distresses,

in beatings, in imprisonments, in riots, in labors, in watchings, in fastings,
6
in pureness, in knowledge, in perseverance, in kindness, in the Holy Spirit, in sincere love,
7
in the word of truth, in the power of God, by the armor of righteousness on the right hand and on the left,
8
by glory and dishonor, by evil report and good report, as deceivers and yet true,
9
as unknown and yet well known, as dying and behold—we live, as punished and not killed,
10
as sorrowful yet always rejoicing, as poor yet making many rich, as having nothing and yet possessing all things.

Our mouth is open to you, Corinthians. Our heart is enlarged.
12
You are not restricted by us, but you are restricted by your own affections.
13
Now in return—I speak as to my children—you also open your hearts.

Don’t be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship do righteousness and iniquity have? Or what fellowship does light have with darkness?
15
What agreement does Christ have with Belial? Or what portion does a believer have with an unbeliever?
16
What agreement does a temple of God have with idols? For you are a temple of the living God. Even as God said, “I will dwell in them and walk in them. I will be their God and they will be my people.”
17
Therefore “‘Come out from among them, and be separate,’ says the Lord. ‘Touch no unclean thing. I will receive you.
18
I will be to you a Father. You will be to me sons and daughters,’ says the Lord Almighty.”

Trabalhando juntos, também suplicamos que vocês não recebam a graça de Deus em vão.

Pois ele diz: “No tempo aceitável eu o ouvi. Em um dia de salvação eu o ajudei.” Eis que agora é o tempo aceitável. Eis que agora é o dia da salvação.

Não damos motivo de tropeço em nada, para que o nosso serviço não seja censurado,

mas em tudo nos recomendando como servos de Deus: em muita perseverança, em aflições, em privações, em angústias,

em açoites, em prisões, em tumultos, em trabalhos, em vigílias, em jejuns,

na pureza, no conhecimento, na perseverança, na bondade, no Espírito Santo, no amor sincero,
7
na palavra da verdade, no poder de Deus, pelas armas da justiça à direita e à esquerda,
8
por glória e desonra, por má fama e boa fama; como enganadores, e ainda assim verdadeiros;
9
como desconhecidos, e ainda assim bem conhecidos; como morrendo, e eis que vivemos; como castigados, e não mortos;
10
como entristecidos, mas sempre nos alegrando; como pobres, mas enriquecendo a muitos; como não tendo nada, e ainda assim possuindo todas as coisas.

Nossa boca está aberta para vocês, coríntios. Nosso coração está ampliado.

Vocês não estão limitados por nós, mas estão limitados por seus próprios afetos.

Agora, em retribuição — falo como a meus filhos — abram também os seus corações.

Não se ponham em jugo desigual com incrédulos, pois que sociedade têm a justiça e a iniquidade? Ou que comunhão tem a luz com as trevas?

Que acordo tem Cristo com Belial? Ou que parte tem o crente com o incrédulo?

Que acordo tem um templo de Deus com os ídolos? Pois vocês são um templo do Deus vivo. Assim como Deus disse: “Habitarei neles e andarei entre eles. Serei o seu Deus e eles serão o meu povo.”

Portanto, “‘Saiam do meio deles, e separem-se’, diz o Senhor. ‘Não toquem em nada impuro. Eu os receberei.

Serei para vocês um Pai. Vocês serão para mim filhos e filhas’, diz o Senhor Todo-Poderoso.”

The paradox catalogue

Verses 4-10 pile up survival under opposites: poor yet enriching many, having nothing yet possessing everything. It is not a complaint but a credential — proof that the gospel's power, not the messenger's comfort, carries the work.

That open-handed honesty sets up verse 11's plea: "Our heart is enlarged." Having shown his scars, Paul asks for matching openness before the abrupt turn to separation from idols closes the chapter.
